Trump administration border czar Tom Homan said Monday night he has requested the immigration records of Rep. Ilhan Omar amid long-running allegations the Minnesota Democrat committed immigration fraud by marrying her brother to help him remain in the United States.
Homan revealed the move during an interview on Newsmax, saying the records were being pulled for review as he revisits claims that have circulated for years but were never prosecuted.
President Donald Trump revived the controversy last week while speaking with reporters in the Oval Office, referring to the allegation as fraud.
During the interview, Schmitt posed to Homan, “(President Trump) calls that fraud. It’s a story that has never been successfully refuted, even though it’s now a five-year-old story. That’s clearly a deportable offense. Is there an investigation into that?”
Homan responded that he had recently been briefed by a fraud investigator about the case.
“You know, I just got advised by a fraud investigator the other day on that,” Homan said. “I asked the question, who reviewed the file, and said, you know, there was immigration fraud involved. The statute of limitation became an issue in the last four years … When this was first brought up, who was president, who ran DOJ?”
Homan said records and files are now being reviewed, adding that an investigator he knows personally with Homeland Security Investigations had previously examined the case and concluded immigration fraud occurred. He said he is pursuing the issue this week and plans to see where it leads.
“So pulling the records, now pulling the files and we’re looking at it. But this fraud investigator who I know personally, one of the best fraud investigators in HSI, Homeland Security Investigations, said there’s no doubt he reviewed the file. So I’m running that down this week, as a matter of fact. And we’ll see.”

Omar appeared on Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” but the interview did not address the immigration claims.
Allegations that Omar married her brother surfaced during her early rise in politics and were detailed by the Daily Mail in a report last updated March 10, 2020. Omar has repeatedly denied wrongdoing but has never been charged.
