Gorsuch defends having ‘independent judiciary’ amid Biden’s Supreme Court term limits proposal

SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly pressed Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch about his views on President Joe Biden‘s proposal to enforce term limits on Supreme Court justices.

Gorsuch began his answer with a caveat that he would not be “going to get into specifics” of any policy proposals “by politicians in an election year.”

“We should all recognize what gifts we are given in our Constitution,” Gorsuch said to Kelly. “And one of them is the independent judiciary. And why do we care? Why does that exist?”

He then gave the example of how a “popular person” may “not need a judge or jury” because they will be protected by the majority.

“But what happens when someone sues you? What happens when the government has you in their crosshairs?” he said, adding examples of people in high-profile legal cases.

“I think, then, that you want what James Madison wanted for you and what our founders wanted for you and the men who signed that declaration wanted for you,” the justice explained.

“You want someone who is a fiercely independent judge who isn’t beholden to politicians and will decide your case fairly under law and you want a jury of your peers to hear that case,” he argued.

He concluded that this is “a part of our constitutional heritage.”

The Over Ruled author shared stories from his new book about what he and his colleagues really talk about behind closed doors and their friendship.

He also shared how as a lawyer, he loves laws but remarked about how some laws during the COVID-19 pandemic were overreaching and making lives harder.

Gorsuch said the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump made him “deeply concerned with the state of our public discourse.”

He believes we need to learn “civility” and encourage learning “civics” in the classroom.

“I think one of the things that can kind of help us get there is maybe just learning a little civics again,” he told Kelly. “We need to learn civility all over, but we also need to learn how our government works and how we can make change through it.”

“They are not teaching civics anymore in our schools. There are only six states that have a full-year civics curriculum in high school,” he explained. “We have college students who can’t name the three branches of government, and 60% of Americans apparently would fail the citizenship exam. … And that exam is not difficult.”

Biden had published a Washington Post op-ed last week previewing his plans to “reform the Supreme Court” and claimed there was “extremism” on the court.

Trump bragged to North Korea’s Kim Jong Un that his desk’s ‘red button’ is bigger

Former President Donald Trump revealed new insights to popular internet personality Adin Ross about his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“This man I really get along with well,” Trump said in an interview when Ross showed him a picture of the North Korean leader, whom Trump frequently called “Little Rocket Man.”

“He said, ‘I have a red button on my desk.’ And I said, ‘No, I have a red button, too, and mine is bigger than yours. And mine works,’” Trump recalled of an exchange that he had with Kim.

The two leaders met in June 2018 for a historic summit in Singapore, where it was the first meeting ever between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

In February 2019, they met again in Hanoi, Vietnam, but it ended abruptly. Months later in June 2019, they met for a third time, and Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to step foot in North Korea. They continued to correspond through letters following their meetings.

Trump recounted that he once played the Elton John song “Rocket Man” for Kim because he had never heard of the song.

Trump also said President Barack Obama had told him that North Korea was the “single biggest threat.”

“One day I got a call from people who wanted to see me about him, and he wanted to meet. They did not want to meet with Obama and did not want to meet with anyone,” the Republican presidential nominee said.

Trump said he got to know the North Korean leader “very well” and “got along with him great.”

The former president called Kim “very smart” and “very strong.”

“He’s the absolute leader. When his people are around, they are standing at attention,” Trump recalled from his meetings with the Korean leader.

Trump said he thinks Kim is upset that he’s “not there” as president.

Trump retold how he encouraged the North Korean leader to optimize his “location” as a potential tourism destination.

“He’s right between, think of this, Russia and China on one side and South Korea on the other. I said, ‘You have a great piece of real estate. You could make so much and you could have gorgeous condos going up on your shore.’ He has got a lot of ocean … a lot of oceanfront,” Trump reflected on telling Kim.

“I get along with him great. We would have had no problem, but now he’s getting very angry with us,” Trump said.

The former president said the North Korean leader does not like Vice President Kamala Harris and thought President Joe Biden was “a very stupid man.”

“He would say that and I would say that, ‘So, we agree on something,’” Trump said of the North Korean leader’s thoughts on Biden.

The former president’s interview with the 23-year-old online streamer Adin Ross was a wide-ranging hourlong discussion about politics. He roasted his Democratic opponent, Harris, and the president. It also captured Trump dancing with Ross and playing music together, and the internet influencer gifted him with a Rolex and a patriotic-themed Cybertruck.

‘Squad’ member being ‘careful about labeling’ Hamas and others ‘terrorists’

Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), who has been a vocal critic of Israel and its war in Gaza following the attack on Oct. 7, is hesitating to call Hamas a “terrorist” organization as she heads into a tight primary Tuesday.

“We were called terrorists during Ferguson,” Bush reportedly said. “Have they hurt people? Absolutely. Has the Israeli military hurt people? Absolutely.”

The congresswoman added that she doesn’t know enough about Hamas to classify them as a terrorist organization, but she personally believes they “qualify.”

“Would they qualify to me as a terrorist organization? Yes. But do I know that? Absolutely not,” she said.

“I have no communication with them. All I know is that we were considered terrorists, we were considered Black identity extremists, and all we were doing was trying to get peace. I’m not trying to compare us, but that taught me to be careful about labeling if I don’t know,” Bush continued.

Following Bush’s unwillingness to label Hamas a terrorist group, her spokesperson clarified the congresswoman’s comments to the New York Times, saying she does know that Hamas “is a terrorist organization.”

The spokesperson also said the “terrorist” label has been “weaponized by the far-right consistently to justify violence and, in this instance, the collective punishment of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.”

Ten years ago, in 2014, the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, over the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a police officer helped launch Bush’s career as an activist and later enabled her to become one of the most centrist members of the House.

Bush had decried Israel’s military operations as an “ethnic cleansing campaign” and has been a leading voice in calling for a ceasefire in Gaza alongside her fellow “Squad” members in the House. She boycotted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s joint address to Congress.

The Missouri Democrat also voted against a resolution to bar Hamas and anyone who participated in the October attacks from the United States.

Vance says Trump showed ‘courage’ in sparring at black journalists conference

Former President Donald Trump participated in a discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention and Career Fair in Chicago on Wednesday. The conference took a combative turn when the event, which was running an hour behind schedule, started with aggressive questioning of Trump when ABC News journalist Rachel Scott questioned whether it was “appropriate” for him to be there.

Trump quickly clapped back at her series of questions as “very rude.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner — first question,” he reacted. “You don’t even say, ‘Hello, how are you?’”

The Republican nominee also tore into the conference for allegedly misleading him about the details of the event that were supposed to include his Democratic opponent.

“I think it’s a very rude introduction. I don’t know exactly why you would do something like that. Let me go a step further: I was told my opponent, whether it was Biden or Kamala, I was told my opponent was going to be here. It turned out my opponent isn’t here; you invited me under false pretenses,” Trump said.

“I think it’s disgraceful that I came here in good spirit. I love the black population of this country, I’ve done so much for the black population of this country,” the Republican presidential nominee said.

The journalists attending the conference audibly jeered Trump after he claimed, “I have been the best president for the black population since Abraham Lincoln.”

The combative exchange between the former president and the journalists on stage received many reactions from viewers.

“I’m a lifetime member of NABJ,” influencer Tariq Nasheed said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “But they sat up here and got COOKED by Trump today by trying to act like shills for the Democrats. If they would have been more objective, their grilling would not have backfired on them.”

Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), shared that the former president was courageous for attending the event.

“President Trump walked right into the NABJ conference and showed he had the courage to take tough questions,” Vance said on X, adding that the vice president backed out of the event. “While Kamala Harris continues to hide from any scrutiny or unfriendly media like the coward she is.”

Trump supporter and television personality Amber Rose said the leading Republican presidential nominee was “absolutely crushing this interview with @NABJ.”

Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner revealed that the live audience enjoyed the conversation with the former president. She was a co-moderator.

“What I loved about what you couldn’t see today was how much of that audience was enjoying the moment of hearing from a candidate that they might not always agree with — and that is the whole point,” Faulkner, who was a co-moderator on the panel interviewing Trump, said in reaction to the event.

Comedian Terence K. Williams called Trump’s pushback of journalist questions “the best thing” on the internet.

“Trump roasted this journalist like a thanksgiving turkey after she ambushed him without saying ‘Hello. Its the best thing you will watch on the internet today,” Williams said.

The Harris campaign reacted to the event by slamming Trump’s “hostility” at the conference.

“The hostility Donald Trump showed on stage today is the same hostility he has shown throughout his life, throughout his term in office and throughout his campaign for president as he seeks to regain power,” Harris campaign communications director Michael Tyler wrote in a press statement.

“The hostility Donald Trump showed on stage today is the same hostility he has shown throughout his life, throughout his term in office and throughout his campaign for president as he seeks to regain power,” Harris campaign communications director Michael Tyler wrote in a press statement.

, Former President Donald Trump participated in a discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention and Career Fair in Chicago on Wednesday. The conference took a combative turn when the event, which was running an hour behind schedule, started with aggressive questioning of Trump when ABC News journalist Rachel Scott questioned whether it was “appropriate” for him to be there. Trump quickly clapped back at her series of questions as “very rude.” “I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner — first question,” he reacted. “You don’t even say, ‘Hello, how are you?’” Trump’s very best moments of fending off attacks at NABJ conference. The View’s Whoopi Goldberg reads from notecard claiming ‘Kamala Harris was never the ‘border czar”

The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg repeated a Democratic talking point that Vice President Kamala Harris is “not the ‘border czar‘” while reading off a notecard during the ABC show Wednesday.

“Let’s also, let’s get some factual information, right? Kamala Harris was never the ‘border czar.’ Never,” Goldberg said during a show panel discussion about dueling 2024 campaign ads from Harris and former President Donald Trump about the border crisis.

She continued to read from a notecard in her explanation.

“Her job was to deal and find out the root causes of migration from Central America. That was what Biden asked her to do. To lead diplomatic efforts to reduce poverty, violence, corruption in the Northern Triangle: Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador,” Goldberg read.

“Now, if y’all ain’t sure about this, ask Joe Biden. He gave her the job. She made sure that she went to all these countries to see what was going on,” she added. “That was the job she was asked to do, and that’s what she did.”

“So, if you’re going to go after her, at least try to be factual. I know you don’t like to do — they don’t like facts. They don’t like facts. I get it. I get annoyed,” Goldberg said.

Co-host Joy Behar said that “people need to be reminded” that Trump “killed the border bill.”

The legislation that Behar referred to was a $118 billion bipartisan bill that many conservatives in Congress rejected as an “amnesty bill.” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) said the bill that the former president opposed would have accepted “5,000 illegal immigrants a day and gives automatic work permits to asylum recipients — a magnet for more illegal immigration.”

Harris had been given the informal title of “border czar” in 2021 when President Joe Biden tasked her with handling the “root causes” of mass migration coming from Central and South America.

Following Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 election and his endorsement of Harris as the Democratic candidate in the presidential race, talking points about the immigration record of the vice president began circulating among Democratic lawmakers. The White House denied knowledge of the talking points.

Elon Musk accepts Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s challenge to a fight

Billionaire Elon Musk accepted a bizarre fight challenge from Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Wednesday.

During a national television appearance, Maduro challenged Musk to a fight after the Tesla executive has been alleging the Venezuelan election results were fraudulent and social media users on his platform X, formerly known as Twitter, have been widely sharing numerous videos from inside Venezuela of protests in his country.

“Maduro, leave! Venezuelans chose to end the communist dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro. The data announce a crushing victory of the opposition, and the world is waiting for you to recognize the defeat after years of socialism, misery, decadence and death,” Musk said in a post on X.

In a long, rambling speech earlier this week, Maduro labeled Musk an “arch enemy” of Venezuela and a “representation of fascism and the extreme right.” The Venezuelan leader also claimed Musk would invade his country with “his rockets and armies.”

Musk had laughed off Maduro’s claims by posting snarky comments in Spanish such as “the donkey knows more than Maduro.”

He added, “Sorry for comparing the poor donkey with Maduro. It is an insult to the animal world.”

Venezuelan leader challenged the tech mogul to a fight in his national television remarks.

“Do you want to fight? Let’s do it. Elon Musk, I’m ready. I’m not afraid of you, Elon Musk. Let’s fight, wherever you want,” Maduro declared.

On Wednesday afternoon, Musk responded by simply writing in two words, “I accept.”

Fans of Musk shared that their “money was on Elon.”

“2024 is turning out to be one of the craziest years in history,” one social media user responded on X.

“Maduro will just rig the fight too,” another person quipped.

“If I win, he resigns as dictator of Venezuela. If he wins, I give him a free ride to Mars,” Musk said to tech entrepreneur Mario Nawfal on X.

Musk had previously accepted a challenge to a cage fight with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg but despite the war of words between billionaires, the fight never came to fruition.

Last week when Musk visited Capitol Hill as a guest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a reporter refueled fight talk with Zuckerberg by asking the tech executive about his fight.

“I’ll fight Zuckerberg any place, any time, any rules,” Musk responded with an amused tone of voice.

Zuckerberg reacted to the renewed fight speculation on his social media platform Threads, “Are we really doing this again?”

In response to talk on X about the Maduro fight, Musk joked about both the fellow tech executive and the Venezuelan leader.

“Maduro is a big guy himself and probably knows how to fight, so this would be a real fight,” the SpaceX CEO said, adding, “Zuck is a little fella, so that would be a short fight lol.”

Paris Olympics scores big initial ratings despite ‘Boycott Olympics’ threats over drag Last Supper parody

During the first three full days of the 2024 Paris Olympics, NBCU scored an average of 34.5 million viewers across television networks and digital platforms.

These viewership numbers came after 28.6 million viewers tuned into Friday night’s opening ceremony that drew sharp criticism for featuring drag queens in a parody of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper.

Organizers of the Paris Olympics apologized to outraged viewers who were offended by a scantily clad blue man singing while wearing a headdress of fruit alongside an ample woman playing the role of Jesus and drag queen dancers as the disciples.

“Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group,” Olympics spokeswoman Anne Descamps told reporters in a press conference on Sunday. “If people have taken any offense we are, of course, really, really sorry.”

The performance was reportedly meant to depict Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, and an assembly of Greek gods on Mount Olympus for a banquet in the painting The Feast of the Gods by Dutch artist Jan Harmensz van Biljert.

However, calls for “Boycott Olympics” spread when viewers saw what many deemed to be an offensive religious depiction. Thousands of social media users used the hashtag #boycottOlympics that began trending on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Actress Candace Cameron Bure, fitness personality Jillian Michaels, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, tech billionaire Elon Musk, and comedian Rob Schneider called the opening performance disgusting and disrespectful.

Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney surprises social media with a video dressed as a man

Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney recently shared a TikTok video that showed the social media star dressed as a man.

In a post previewing a show performance at the Soho Theatre in London, Mulvaney is seen dancing to the song “Texas Hold ‘Em” by Beyonce while wearing a black cowboy hat, sunglasses, a fake brown goatee, a brown short hair wig, a buffalo red plaid sleeveless shirt, and light blue wash jeans.

“First Show in London tonight!” Mulvaney wrote in the post last week with a corresponding video that was likely previewing the show’s act dressed as a cowboy.

In the 60-minute comedy show‘s description, the venue described Mulvaney’s appearance as “previewing her new solo musical at ours before heading up to Edinburgh Festival Fringe.”

Mulvaney, known for the viral social media vlog series Days of Girlhood, has been performing at various theaters around the country and abroad.

The show lasted three nights, which ended this past weekend, before Mulvaney performs in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Fans of Mulvaney praised the video showing the social media star dressed and dancing as a man.

“I’m convinced Dylan can be anything Dylan wants to be. Dylan is magical!” a fan wrote in response.

“Back to your roots,” another social media user said.

Mulvaney infamously partnered with the popular beer Bud Light last year, drawing backlash that caused the lager’s sales to drop to No. 3 in the country behind Mexican import Modelo Especial and the low-carb beet Michelob Light.

While the transgender content creator travels abroad this summer, transgenderism and gender dysphoria remain a topic of political debate.

Ana Navarro joins chorus of Harris supporters attacking Vance as ‘weird’

The View co-host Ana Navarro attacked 2024 Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) for being “pretty weird.”

Navarro’s comments came on Monday after numerous supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris‘s campaign made the same attack line.

During a panel discussion about Harris, Navarro praised Harris for having a sense of humor, energy, enthusiasm, and joyfulness. She contrasted the vice president’s personality with the Trump-Vance campaign.

“On the other side, you’ve got these weird men,” she said. “Because they’re weird, and don’t complain that we’re calling you ‘weird’ because you’ve attacked her on her dating history.”

Navarro added, “You have called her a ‘DEI hire.’ You’ve said everything she’s got is because of her gender and her skin color. You’ve called her all sorts of names, so I think we’re being really kind and gracious by just calling you ‘weird.’ And frankly, J.D. Vance, Just Dumb Vance, is pretty weird.”

The View co-host shared that she spent last Thursday at the vice president’s residence.

Navarro explained that she felt Vance had numerous opportunities to “clean up” his previous “childless cat ladies” comments that he had made in a 2021 Fox News interview but that he “hasn’t been able to.”

“He means it because that’s his intention,” she ranted. “He has said more than once that he thinks people without children, that that’s bad and must be punished. And people with children must be rewarded. He wants people with children to have more voting rights. He wants people with children to pay less taxes.”

The View co-host continued her outrage at Vance’s comments by saying, “But here’s what I want to tell him. There are two types of women in this world: There are women who have no children because they are free to choose so, and there are women, like me, who have no children because we couldn’t. How dare you try to tell me that I am lesser than! How dare you tell me that I have less rights and less voting rights than others?”

“So, you are weird,” she stated.

Vance had followed up on his television interview comments in an Intercollegiate Studies Institute speech in 2021 to clarify his statements, saying he was not referring to people who could not have children for complicated biological reasons.

“A lot of people are unable to have kids for very complicated and important reasons. There are good friends of mine who struggled to find the right girl, find the right guy, and there are people, of course, for biological reasons, medical reasons that can’t have children. The target of these remarks is not them. … Let’s set them to the side,” Vance said.

Co-host Sara Haines added that Vance has “tried to walk back” his comments and then she suggested that men are “capable too of reproducing.”

“You are eliminating the most feminist option we have at this point, which is the power to choose. There are people that proudly and robustly live big lives, and we don’t ask that of men. They’re capable too of reproducing. We are not defined by our ovaries, and if we choose not to have kids, we respect that, and we cheer that on because we get to live in a time where you can do that,” she said as the audience applauded.

Whoopi Goldberg closed the segment with a warning for “Republican men” by saying that they should be paying “really close attention” to how they “pissed these women off” with their comments.

Navarro’s claim that Vance is “weird” has become a common talking point among Harris campaign supporters on various talk shows.

On MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) said that the Trump campaign’s “way they talk to people, the way they address people — it is bizarre. It’s weird.”

On CNN, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said that he doesn’t believe Harris will pick a vice presidential running mate as “weird and creepy as J.D. Vance.”

Vance was asked about this accusation of Democrats labeling him as “weird” and whether his feelings were hurt.

“No, not at all,” Vance said in an interview on Fox News on Sunday. “It doesn’t hurt my feelings.”

The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin: This ‘Kamalamentum’ is real and this race will be ‘tight’

The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said her “friends” want to “hear more” about Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election and feel the “Kamalamentum” is a reality.

“I think this Vice President Kamalamentum is really real,” Farah Griffin said on the ABC show Monday.

“All weekend, anywhere I went with different groups of friends, they all want to hear more about her,” she added. “I have friends who are calling into these phone calls that she’s doing, that aren’t registered Democrats. Some of them are Republicans, and they are actually curious.”

Farah Griffin shared her experience of going on one of the organized phone calls in support of Harris.

“I got on one of them, and they didn’t cut me off. They let me be on the line, and it was talking about character, what our daughters are going to see, and what people want to see in their president,” she said. “This is going to be tight.”

The co-host said the “energy shifted” when President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race and endorsed Harris.

Farah Griffin then gave her advice for the Harris campaign not to own her publicly stated opinions while Biden’s vice president.

“What I would hope the vice president vice president’s team would keep doing is: It’s OK to admit if something you stated in the past is not your position now because, for four years, she’s been the vice president for all Americans,” she said.

Farah Griffin said Harris should “walk back” her views on “defunding the police.”

She also advised Harris to backtrack on her record on the border as vice president because now she’s running a different campaign as a person vying for the future presidency.

Co-host Ana Navarro said Harris has been “underestimated” because “when she was the No. 2, she acted like the No. 2.”
