Year in review: How Trump inspired dance crazes in 2024

President-elect Donald Trump inspired some worldwide dance crazes during the 2024 election year.

The 78-year-old president-elect had Americans dancing for different reasons during an intense 2024 election cycle.

The signature “Trump dance” became a dance challenge across social media platforms when clips were seen of Trump grooving at campaign rallies to the beat of Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.”

College fraternities, toddlers, sports celebrities, social media influencers, and Americans across social media joined in with videos of their impersonations of the Trump dance.

Victor Willis, lead singer of Village People, defended Trump’s use of his hit song and loved that he was “having a lot of fun with it.”

Willis said his group has “benefited greatly from use by the President Elect.”

“Y.M.C.A. was stuck at #2 on the Billboard chart prior to the President Elect’s use. However, the song finally made it to #1 on a Billboard chart after over 45 years (and held on to #1 for two weeks) due to the President Elect’s use,” he said in a Facebook post.

Many Trump supporters and tourists have been making stops in New York City in front of Trump Tower to film themselves doing the Trump dance.

Another dance trend inspired by Trump in 2024 occurred when he criticized the Haitian immigrant crisis happening in the small town of Springfield, Ohio, in September during a presidential debate.

“Our country is being lost. We’re a failing nation,” he said during an ABC News presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris on Sept. 10 about the Ohio town. “They’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

TikTok users began producing music remixes of Trump’s references to “eating the dogs” and “eating the cats,” and then a dance craze for the song took hold in September.

In addition to the dances, artificial intelligence-generated memes of Trump rescuing cats and dogs from Springfield spread quickly across the internet.

While social media users were creating Trump dances, the Harris-Walz campaign used its $1 billion presidential campaign to pay content creator influencers anywhere from $200 to $100,000 for political posts.

Trump has given much credit to his son Barron Trump for helping him choose famous internet personalities, such as Theo Von, Adin Ross, and Joe Rogan, to appeal to the younger voting population. During his sit-down interview with Ross, Trump went viral doing the Trump dance with the internet star.

During a Dec. 16 press conference at Mar-a-Lago, the president-elect admitted that his mind was changing about the TikTok ban after seeing how it helped his presidential campaign.

“We’ll take a look at TikTok. You know, I have a warm spot in my heart for TikTok,” Trump said.

Year in review: The Hollywood op-ed that stirred a ‘coup’ and an election loss

Democratic fundraiser and Hollywood actor George Clooney led the charge in July, just weeks after President Joe Biden‘s disastrous presidential debate performance, when he issued a pressure campaign to oust the leading Democratic presidential candidate.

“I love Joe Biden,” Clooney began his brutal July 10 guest essay in the New York Times.

“It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,” the celebrity wrote.

Clooney declared that “we need a new nominee.”

“Let’s hear from Wes Moore and Kamala Harris and Gretchen Whitmer and Gavin Newsom and Andy Beshear and J.B. Pritzker and others,” Clooney wrote.

VOTERS SEND HISTORY-MAKING CANDIDATES TO CONGRESS

The Ocean’s Eleven star had held a star-studded event in Los Angeles for Biden that raised a record $28 million. At the fundraiser, a video leaked of the president seeming lost onstage and former President Barack Obama helping lead him off the stage.

The White House called the fundraiser videos of Biden a “cheap fake,” but Clooney’s op-ed revealed what he saw that night at the fundraiser.

The satire website Babylon Bee mocked Clooney’s fundraiser and op-ed with the headline, “In New ‘Ocean’s 14’, George Clooney Pulls Off $30 Million Heist By Tricking People Into Giving Money To Politician Before Revealing He’s Demented.”

FILIBUSTER FLIP-FLOP: SENATE DEMOCRATS READY TO EMBRACE THE TOOL TO STONEWALL TRUMP

The actor-director received praise and criticism for his effort that succeeded in Biden dropping out and endorsing his vice president.

“President Biden has shown what true leadership is,” Clooney said. “He’s saving democracy once again. We’re all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest.”

In September, Clooney lauded Biden for doing “the most selfless thing that anybody has done since George Washington.”

Then-presidential nominee Donald Trump slammed Clooney on his social media platform Truth Social by saying the actor “turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are.”

“Clooney should get out of politics and go back to television. Movies never really worked for him!!!” Trump blasted.

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel asked Clooney about Trump’s comments telling the actor to “get out of politics.”

“I will if he does,” Clooney responded.

REPUBLICANS FLOAT ROADMAP TO ENACT TRUMP AGENDA IN NEXT CONGRESS

“They stole the presidency of the United States. You can call it a coup, you can call it whatever. But they stole it,” Trump said at a Florida campaign rally. “The way they took that away from him was not right.”

Following November’s election, Clooney was reportedly said to be taking a step back from politics and thinks it is “unfair” to be seen as “a scapegoat for her loss.”

A Politico report shared that Obama knew about Clooney’s essay in the New York Times before its publication and “didn’t object to it.”

Clooney reportedly has been “complaining that Obama” had “manipulated him into doing the dirty work on his behalf” and has left him to take most of the blame for the election loss.

HOUSE FREEDOM CAUCUS CASHES IN ON POWER WITH TRUMP’S BIG WIN

The Hollywood star was not the only celebrity to put their popularity on the line to help the Harris campaign’s efforts in the 2024 elections.

Actor Ben Stiller teamed up with the Harris campaign for numerous events and Zoom calls. Stiller shared, “I’m Jewish and Irish. … I wish I was black. Every white Jewish guy wishes he was black.”

The Zoolander star also made various videos with second gentleman Doug Emhoff to try to court more voters.

Harris was seen in the final stretch of her campaign, doing battleground-state rallies with A-list celebrities Beyonce, Katy Perry, Megan Thee Stallion, Oprah Winfrey, and Lizzo.

According to records from the Federal Election Commission, many of Harris’s presidential endorsements appeared to include substantial payments that included $1 million to Winfrey’s production company and $165,000 to Beyonce’s management company.

Following November’s election, numerous celebrities grew quiet, and some, including comedian Sarah Silverman, lamented that “no one” wants to hear from celebrities about politics right now.

Harris campaign laughs when asked why vice president hasn’t held press conference

CNN anchor Jim Acosta pressed a Kamala Harris campaign spokesman on Wednesday about why the vice president has been avoiding the media since she became the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate.

“I’m sure this is not going to be the first time you’ve heard this question, but the Trump campaign is also going after the vice president for not doing enough interviews, for not holding a press conference. Would it kill you guys to have a press conference? Why hasn’t she had a press conference?” Acosta asked the campaign’s communications director, Michael Tyler.

Tyler laughed and insisted Harris and her vice presidential running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), have been “busy crisscrossing this country since the launch of this campaign.”

“You saw the ways in which they went across the battleground states last week generating rallies of thousands, 10,000 here, 15,000 there,” he said.

The CNN host then pushed back by interrupting, “But Michael, you know a campaign really isn’t really a press conference. … Why hasn’t she had a press conference? She’s the vice president; she can handle the questions. Why not do it?”

“We absolutely are going to do it. You hear her take questions as she’s out on the stump, and as she said last week, we’re going to be having a sit-down interview here before the end of the month,” Tyler said. “What she’s going to be focused on and what this campaign is going to be focused on is communicating directly with the voters that are actually going to decide the pathway to 270 electoral votes.”

Acosta pressed again by asking, “Can she commit to a press conference this week?”

“We will commit to directly engage with the voters who are actually going to decide this election,” Tyler responded. “And that is going to be complete with rallies, with sit-down interviews, with press conferences, with all the digital assets that we have at our disposal.”

Harris was last seen giving a wandering answer to reporters on the tarmac next to President Joe Biden on Aug. 2 after greeting American hostages released in a Russian prisoner swap.

She has since had limited exchanges with the press, often avoiding reporter questions as she has been flying around the country for campaign stops.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) has mocked her ignoring the media by walking up to the reporters staking out her campaign jet, suggesting that they were getting “lonely.”

Tim Walz (D-MN), have been “busy crisscrossing this country since the launch of this campaign.” “You saw the ways in which they went across the battleground states last week generating rallies of thousands, 10,000 here, 15,000 there,” he said. The CNN host then pushed back by interrupting, “But Michael, you know a campaign really isn’t really a press conference. … Why hasn’t she had a press conference? She’s the vice president; she can handle the questions. Why not do it?” “We absolutely are going to do it. You hear her take questions as she’s out on the stump, and as she said last week, we’re going to be having a sit-down interview here before the end of the month,” Tyler said. “What she’s going to be focused on and what this campaign is going to be focused on is communicating directly with the voters that are actually going to decide the pathway to 270 electoral votes.” Acosta pressed again by asking, “Can she commit to a press conference this week?” “We will commit to directly engage with the voters who are actually going to decide this election,” Tyler responded. “And that is going to be complete with rallies, with sit-down interviews, with press conferences, with all the digital assets that we have at our disposal.” Harris was last seen giving a wandering answer to reporters on the tarmac next to President Joe Biden on Aug. 2 after greeting American hostages released in a Russian prisoner swap. She has since had limited exchanges with the press, often avoiding reporter questions as she has been flying around the country for campaign stops. Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) has mocked her ignoring the media by walking up to the reporters staking out her campaign jet, suggesting that they were getting “lonely.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER Former President Donald Trump held a press conference last week at his Mar-a-Lago estate and has recently been doing numerous long free-wheeling interviews on social media platforms, including with tech executive Elon Musk and internet influencer Adin Ross. Moms for Liberty coming to DC for ‘Joyful Warriors’ summit

Moms for Liberty, a national parental rights organization, will be holding its third annual “Joyful Warriors” summit in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 29 through Sep. 1.

“Our Summit is designed to give parents from across the country a chance to discuss these issues, and come together to find solutions. We are proud to be able to host leading voices in the parental rights movements and continue the fight to protect our kids. We hope all parents will be inspired to continue this fight,” group co-founders Tiffany Justice and Tina Descovich said to the Washington Examiner on Wednesday.

The event will be held at the JW Marriott hotel and will feature speakers, including Glenn Beck, former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, comedian Rob Schneider, and Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon.

The organization describes the event as “the ultimate gathering of parents fighting to defend their parental rights and improve education in America.”

“As parents, it is more important than ever to stand up for our children,” Justice and Descovich said of the event. “We know new Title IX regulations are threatening girls around the county, and we see Tim Walz, Vice Presidential Candidate, saying parents shouldn’t have a right to their children in a public schools. As parents we should all be concerned if these ideas take hold.”

Moms for Liberty has been calling its annual event the “Joyful Warriors National Summit” for the past three years.

Vice President Kamala Harris and campaign surrogates have recently been using the phrase “joyful warriors” for their own campaign purposes.

Harris has frequently used the saying dating back to the 2020 presidential election, but the phrase has surged in recent weeks in an effort to rebrand the vice president’s image as the leading Democratic presidential candidate.

Moms for Liberty has been a vocal and organized presence at school board meetings across the country. The education advocacy group has been attacked and vilified as “book banners” for calling out inappropriate reading materials in school libraries and curricula. The group’s latest fight has been to challenge the implementation of the Biden administration’s new Title IX regulations barring discrimination based on gender identity at schools, which took effect on Aug. 1.

Fauci touts vaccine boosters and masks after getting COVID-19 for the third time

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, recommended vaccine boosters and masking after he recently contracted COVID-19 again.

“I got infected about two weeks ago. It was my third COVID-19 infection, and I had been vaccinated and boosted a total of six times,” Fauci said to MedPage Today Editor-in-Chief Dr. Jeremy Faust in a podcast episode posted on Saturday.

He added, “It was a very, very mild infection. I’m 83 years old. I would think that if I were naive immunologically, this thing could have killed me, but it didn’t even make me significantly ill.”

Fauci said he had some “sniffles, a little fever, and sinusitis” before it was over.

He told Faust that he “gets regularly boosted” and that under certain circumstances, he still wears a mask.

“I always wear a mask when I’m on a plane, particularly if I’m doing a five-hour flight to San Francisco or Los Angeles,” Fauci said, adding that he often avoids crowded spaces.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) slammed Fauci as an “idiot.”

“And the world listened to this idiot during the pandemic? How many people died because he helped sabotage early treatment and promoted the vaccine as safe and effective?” Johnson wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, coronavirus still tends to peak in December and January while also rising in July and August. The current COVID-19 vaccines now target the KP.2 strain, a descendant of the highly contagious JN.1 variant that emerged last winter. World Health Organization officials said 84 countries are seeing a rise in positive COVID-19 tests over the last several weeks.

Conservative social media slams suggestion that Walz ‘masculinity is terrifying Republicans’ thumbnail

Conservative social media slams suggestion that Walz ‘masculinity is terrifying Republicans’

A Bloomberg column titled “Tim Walz‘s Masculinity Is Terrifying Republicans” went viral when conservatives shared their opinions on it, slamming it across social media over the weekend.

Kamala Harris’ running mate has traditional ‘manly man’ traits. He’s also not frightened of women, afraid of Black people or terrified of the future,” Bloomberg opinion columnist Francis Wilkinson wrote in his Friday column.

He began the article by saying, “Republicans have scaled back their initial attacks on Harris’ race and gender. Instead, they have targeted the traditional signifiers of Walz’s masculinity.”

“It’s hardly surprising. Any liberal Democrat whose resume includes football coach, military veteran and sharp-shooting hunter is a challenge to MAGA mythology, which posits that liberalism and feminism threaten traditional masculinity, so you’d better vote Republican before marauding Amazons take your endangered man card away,” Wilkinson wrote.

The Bloomberg columnist said Walz is happy to “play second fiddle to a Black woman running for president,” while the Republican ticket “offers little beyond resentment, rage and a promise to restrict the freedom and democratic power of its opponents.”

Conservative social media users sharing Wilkinson’s article often responded with laughing emojis.

One social media user laughed at the notion that “MAGA is afraid of Tim Walz’s masculinity.”

Another female social media user shared a video of Walz with his belly hanging out while waving to people on the street.

“UGHHH! DEFINITELY NOT,” she laughed on the X platform.

“No, we’re terrified by Walz’s leftist agenda,” another person said.

“If manliness is what Ds want, why ice out @RobertKennedyJr?” a social media user asked, showing a shirtless photo of a muscular Kennedy.

Wilkinson is not the only journalist examining Walz’s “masculinity.”

“Tim Walz has tonic masculinity. Confident. Decent. The kind of man who, as another user joked, would start his job at the White House “being asked about national security and the tax code and end with him wearing a headlamp up in the attic fixing some old wiring,” Washington Post columnist Monica Hesse wrote on Thursday.

ESPN pundit Mina Kimes praised Walz’s “type of masculinity” during a podcast interview with sports pundit Dan Le Batard.

“There’s something, to me, really important about seeing someone like this modeling a different kind of masculinity,” Kimes said of Walz.

“We’re kind of seeing it in the NFL with the Kelces, and Dan Campbell — this idea that ‘big, tough football guy’ isn’t separate from showing emotion and empathy,” Kimes explained.

She added, “This man, the year he was a football coach, also ran the gay-straight alliance at a high school. That’s really powerful in a way that goes far beyond politics and electability. There are very few models like that in public life.”

Wired magazine recently wrote on social media that Walz modeled “a traditional yet empathetic masculinity” while the Republican presidential nominee rival “Donald Trump is appearing on fratty streams.”

Numerous journalists and social media influencers attempted a hype campaign last week around Walz’s image pushing the idea that Walz was everyone’s “Midwestern Dad.”

Cover girl: Kamala Harris makes cover of Essence and Time magazines

Vice President Kamala Harris has scored two prominent magazine covers, Essence and Time, only weeks after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential election.

Time magazine’s cover shows a black-and-white drawing of the vice president’s head surrounded by blue signs. The title on the Time cover is “Her Moment,” written by Charlotte Alter, and is set to be the magazine’s Aug. 26 issue.

The magazine posted the cover on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, with the description “The reintroduction of Kamala Harris,” which is the same title as the online version of Alter’s article.

“The soundtrack suggested a Beyoncé concert. The light-up bracelets evoked the Eras Tour. And the exuberant crowd—more than 14,000 strong, lining up in the rain—resembled the early days of Barack Obama,” Alter wrote in the opening of the article describing the high energy of a recent Harris campaign rally.

She continued, “Inside a Philadelphia arena on Aug. 6, Vice President Kamala Harris was greeted with a kind of reception a Democratic presidential candidate hasn’t gotten in years. Fans packed into overflow spaces, waving homemade signs made of glitter and glue as drumlines roared.”

Alter analyzed the transformation of Harris from vice president to the leading Democratic candidate in the 2024 election.

“Harris has pulled off the swiftest vibe shift in modern political history. A contest that revolved around the cognitive decline of a geriatric President has been transformed: Joe Biden is out, Harris is in,” she wrote.

“Where has this Kamala Harris been all along?” Alter asked.

She added, “For years, Democratic officials questioned her political chops, pundits mocked her word salads, and her polling suggested limited appeal. Her performance in the 2020 presidential primary was wooden, and her turn as Biden’s No. 2 did little to inspire confidence.”

“She may seem like an overnight sensation, but Harris’ moment was years in the making,” Alter wrote.

One political observer called the cover story a rewrite of a New York Times piece on Harris in July.

“The Time Magazine piece is almost a beat for beat rewriting from this NY Times piece from July 22nd. It’s even the identical title and uses same design of full splash. No actual work went into it,” a social media user responded.

Another social media account called out the magazine for writing a “fawning cover” even though she “REFUSED TO BE INTERVIEWED.”

Essence magazine announced the cover of the September-October issue and placed the vice president as its cover photograph. It features a sit-down interview that Harris had done last month during Essence Fest before Biden had stepped down from the presidential election.

The Essence story will share the vice president’s views on the Supreme Court, abortion access, and her thoughts on former President Donald Trump.

Essence Ventures’s Caroline Wanga told MSNBC’s Morning Joe that Harris was their choice for a special feature, called “Chief to Chief,” that inspires black women about black women leaders.

“We welcome her into the Essence cover girl community,” Wanga said on MSNBC.

Harris’s Essence cover issue will be a special collector’s edition.

CNN’s Harry Enten says ‘truly worrying’ economic polling shows ‘clear movement’ toward Kamala Harris thumbnail

CNN’s Harry Enten says ‘truly worrying’ economic polling shows ‘clear movement’ toward Kamala Harris

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten analyzed new polling across three battleground state polls and said former President Donald Trump should find the polls to be “worrying” in his campaign against his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

“You know, the economy, the economy, the economy — it’s the economy, stupid,” Enten said on Monday as he looked at new polling.

He called the issue of the economy “Donald Trump’s bread and butter” over his former opponent, President Joe Biden. Enten compared July and August in a poll released Monday by the Financial Times and the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business that showed Harris leading on the topic.

In the new poll, 35% of registered voters said in July that they trusted Biden more than Trump to handle the economy, while 41% threw their support behind the GOP nominee. The August polling now shows a 7-percentage-point boost for Harris following Biden’s decision to drop out as 42% support the vice president on the economy, while support for the former president remains at 41%.

“Look at the 42% that trust Harris more on economic issues than Trump at 41%. And the movement here, Jim, is key,” Enten said.

“Why is the movement here key?” he asked on Monday, adding that “multiple polls” show that the Republican presidential nominee’s lead has shrunk.

“Now we have a race within the margin of error on the economy,” Enten said to his colleague, Jim Acosta.

Enten pointed to a recent New York Times and Siena College poll, which showed a surge for Harris across the three states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan between Monday and Friday. The vice president gained 8 points in Michigan, 13 points in Pennsylvania, and 11 points in Wisconsin among likely voters.

The former analyst for the website FiveThirtyEight said the polling shows “a reversal of situations” in the matchup between Trump and Harris.

“It’s not just on those top-line issues. It’s underneath the hood, and that’s what should be truly worrying to the Trump campaign, especially on the economy,” Enten said to Acosta.

Acosta called the poll shift “remarkable” and a “completely changed race now.”

Harris is set to share her economic plans this week and discuss her efforts to lower costs in America.

JD Vance on Trump’s mass deportation plans: ‘Pack your bags’ thumbnail

JD Vance on Trump’s mass deportation plans: ‘Pack your bags’

Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) elaborated on former President Donald Trump‘s plans for fixing the broken immigration system should they win the 2024 election.

“It is simple,” Vance said during a Wednesday press conference in Detroit.

“The first thing President Trump will do is stop the massive inflow of illegal aliens in the first place. You gotta stop the bleeding before you can actually fix the problem here,” he said.

Vance laid out that the first thing the Trump administration would do is to “reimplement deportation and finish construction of the border wall.”

He said they would stop the push for “mass amnesty” for “millions of illegal aliens.”

The Ohio senator told the media that these initial steps would solve “most of the problems” and reminded them that it has previously worked because “Trump already did it.”

Vance then addressed what would happen to the undocumented migrants currently in the country.

“Now, what do you do with the people who are already here?” he rhetorically asked.

“I think it’s important that you send a message that if you have come to this country illegally, if you plowed into an innocent mom and their daughter and they lost their lives because of your actions, the message from the Trump administration is simple: Pack your bags because in four months, you are going home,” he declared.

The military veteran added, “We do not consent to an invasion of the country for millions of people who shouldn’t be here and we are going to deport people.”

Trump’s running mate said their administration would start deporting “the most violent criminals” and make it hard for businesses to “hire illegal aliens.”

“If you are not willing to tell at least some of the people who are in this country illegally that you have to go back, then you don‘t have a real border policy. Unfortunately, that is what Kamala Harris has given this country,” Vance said.

During his press conference, he implored the press to “do a better job at actually forcing Kamala Harris to answer questions” on numerous issues, including her handling of the southern border.

AOC calls Kamala Harris running mate ‘a uniter’ with ‘many assets’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was encouraged by Vice President Kamala Harris‘s choice of running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), in the 2024 presidential election, praising his unifying presence.

“Vice President Harris is picking a uniter for not just the Democratic Party but for the entire United States,” Ocasio-Cortez said on CBS Mornings.

The vice president announced Walz as her running mate Tuesday morning, and the pair quickly began campaigning together at rallies, starting in Philadelphia on Tuesday night before traveling to swing states the rest of the week.

Ocasio-Cortez responded Wednesday to reports that Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) was passed over due to antisemitism in the party, rejecting the notion and saying that the Democratic Party has Jewish leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and second gentlemen Doug Emhoff, Harris’s husband.

The New York congresswoman said the discussions of Shapiro being possibly added to the vice presidential candidate short list only reflects how the party has “so much talent” that Harris had to consider when picking her mate.

“I think that Gov. Walz has so many different assets that he brings to the table and I trust her decision,” she said.

Ocasio-Cortez was also pressed about the latest progressive “Squad” member, Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), being defeated in her primary Tuesday night, following the loss of fellow progressive Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) in his June primary.

Ocasio-Cortez called Bush and Bowman “courageous” and said their losses reflected the corrupt “big money system” in political campaigns.
