Federal agents were rammed and boxed in by multiple vehicles not far from a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Broadview, Illinois, where violent protests have been taking place on a near nightly basis for weeks. Agents were forced to open fire as one of the attackers was carrying a firearm.
“This morning, during routine patrolling in Broadview, in the same area of Chicago that law enforcement were assaulted yesterday, our brave law enforcement officers were rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin announced in a social media post.
Agents were unable to move their vehicles and were forced to exit. “One of the drivers who rammed the law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon. Law enforcement was forced to deploy their weapons and fire defensive shots at an armed US citizen who drove herself to the hospital to get care for wounds,” McLaughlin added.
The armed woman was recently named in a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) bulletin after she doxxed agents and issued violent threats. “Hey to all my gang let’s f**k those mother f***ers up, don’t let them take anyone,” the woman reportedly posted online.
No law enforcement officers were injured as a result of the attack.
The Chicago Police Department has withdrawn from the scene and is refusing to assist agents as they attempt to secure the area,” McLaughlin said. “There is a growing crowd and we are deploying special operations to control the scene,” she added.
The time and exact location of the shooting is not immediately clear.
The Broadview facility is one of many that has suffered repeat attacks from far-left mobs. Several Democrat candidates for an open House seat in Chicago, including Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss and the progressive-aligned Kat Abughazaleh, have filmed themselves committing felonies by blocking federal vehicles and impeding agents.
Other rioters have clashed with agents, pelted rocks at vehicles and slashed tires in near daily disturbances at the facility. Agents have repeatedly attempted to control the crowd with pepper spray, tear gas and rubber bullets, though they have largely been outnumbered by the mob.
A large contingent of federal agents with various agencies, including DHS, ATF and Border Patrol, arrived at the facility to bolster security last weekend. Several arrests were made, while Border Patrol commander-at-large Gregory Bovino personally assisted with clearing rioters from the facility’s entrance, though protests have persisted this weekend.
