Trump pushes for Univision to get back on YouTube TV for the purpose of FAIRNESS

President Donald Trump called for the restoration of Univision to YouTube TV after it was was dropped from the popular streaming service earlier this week.

YouTube TV, which is owned by Google, removed Univision’s Spanish-language networks after the two failed to reach a deal to avoid a blackout. According to the Los Angeles Times, negotiations to avoid the lapse in coverage reached an impasse when YouTube TV wanted Univision to move from its basic streaming package to a Spanish-language add-on one, which would cost subscribers more than the already $83 monthly charge.

The blackout of Univision was met with backlash from numerous Republican lawmakers, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who teased legal action before it became official. Now, as scrutiny of Google and its flagship TV streaming service mounts, President Donald Trump has jumped into the mix, posting a plea for Univision to be included back on YouTube TV and projecting doom for Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections if it isn’t restored.

“I hope Univision, a great and very popular Hispanic Network, can get BACK onto the very amazing Google/YouTube. It has been taken out of their package, which is VERY BAD for Republicans in the upcoming Midterms. They were so good to me with their highest rated ever political Special, and I set a Republican Record in Hispanic voting. Google, for the purpose of FAIRNESS, please let Univision back!” the president posted on Truth Social Saturday night.

Univision is one of the leading Spanish-language networks in the United States, attracting an audience that was a key voting bloc for Trump in 2024.

According to the Pew Research Center, Trump won 48% of Latino voters last election year, compared to then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s 51%. In 2016, Trump won just 28% of the Latino vote, while in 2020 he did narrowly better, with 36%.

Univision also hosted a town hall with Trump in 2024, with Paxton alleging earlier this week that YouTube TV is “using market power to punish” the network for that decision.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) suggested the same in separate letters to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, with both raising concerns about “market power” being used to “disadvantage” Univision and “restrict consumer choice.”

On Saturday night, Moreno reposted Trump’s Truth Social statement, writing, “Google needs to make this happen now.”
