Trump assassination attempt: Secret Service makes big change to former president’s outdoor rally security

Former President Trump will have bulletproof glass surrounding his podium for outdoor events going forward, a federal law enforcement source briefed on the planning told Fox News.

Indoor events, meanwhile, will not involve the same level of protection, the source confirmed.

The additional level of protection comes after an assassination attempt on the former president during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last month.

The president was addressing the open-air crowd, just minutes into his speech, when a gunman fired at him from the rooftop of a nearby building.

Trump managed to just barely turn his head and duck beneath the podium. A Secret Service member killed the gunman just seconds after he opened fire.

Trump was struck in the ear but avoided serious injury. One spectator in the audience was killed and two others were injured.

VANCE SAYS MEDIA ACTED LIKE BIDEN WAS ‘EINSTEIN,’ AIM TO MAKE HARRIS INTO ‘SECOND COMING OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN’

The security failure has brought heavy scrutiny on the Secret Service, which had been responsible for coordinating with local law enforcement.

The fury over the security lapse mounted after it was revealed that law enforcement had identified the gunman – later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks – as suspicious an hour before the rally began, but lost track of him.

Crooks was able to scale the roof of a building owned by AGR International Inc., a supplier of automation equipment for the glass and plastic packaging industry, and fire an estimated eight shots with an AR-15-style rifle.

Experts rip ‘triple crown of bad regs’ as Biden admin posts gas stove rule it denied was a ban

After repeatedly denying that it wants to formally ban natural gas-powered stoves, the Energy Department posted to the Federal Register its finalized regulation targeting kitchen appliances.

Critics from Congress to energy advocacy groups slammed the new rule, which administration officials have long denied would constitute a ban.

But American Energy Alliance president Tom Pyle said it nonetheless wins the “Triple Crown for bad regulations.”

“It’s ineffective, unnecessary, and likely illegal,” Pyle said, going on to acknowledge that the administration had watered down the original 2023-drafted policy.

BIDEN ADMIN BACKS OFF GAS STOVE CRACKDOWN AFTER WIDESPREAD PUSHBACK

“After receiving severe backlash for moving to ban gas stoves, the Biden-Harris administration settled for this rule, which they claim would lower costs for families. Of course, what they don’t tell you is their so-called savings is a mere 21 cents a year.”

Pyle said that if Democrats continue to hold power, the rule will be a “mere down payment” on future regulatory overreach that will try to control other mundane aspects of daily life like cooking.

“American consumers [are] fully capable of choosing the appliances that best suit their needs,” he said.

The Department of Energy, however, defended the regulation — including against claims that it had waffled on the matter.

A spokesman said the rule posted to the Federal Register mirrors the regulation devised earlier in the year, and that this final rule has the support of groups like the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers.

A spokesman for the Energy Department it is “building on decades-long efforts with industry to ensure our appliances work more efficiently and save Americans money.”

“When you look past misleading rhetoric, you’ll see that our appliance standards actions are intended for nothing more than promoting innovation and increasing energy efficiency without sacrificing the reliability and performance that Americans have come to expect and rely on,” they said.

However, lawmakers who have tried to blunt “bans” or regulations on home appliances and other implements that require fossil fuel power were not convinced of the new rule’s benefits.

In 2023, Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., successfully drafted an amendment to an energy bill that would prohibit Secretary Jennifer Granholm’s department from implementing the original energy standard for cooktops.

“If this draconian rule were carried out, it would eliminate anywhere between 50-95% of today’s gas appliances,” Newhouse said at the time.

WHITE HOUSE FINALIZES RULE INCREASING CLEAN ENERGY SUBSIDIES FIVEFOLD IN BID TO SUPPORT GREEN JOBS

“Gas appliances are at the center of American households. They power our stoves, furnaces, water heaters and fireplaces,” he said, calling natural gas “affordable, reliable and safe.”

On Thursday, a spokesman for Newhouse said the lawmaker’s efforts were a “leading factor” in having the original rule rescinded and revised to its current form.

“While this new rule will still require strenuous federal oversight by Congress, it does prevent states like California and Washington from implementing sweeping, radical rules that are completely unreasonable for consumers and producers and will only pave the way for other states to follow,” the spokesman said.

Rep. Kelly Armstrong, R-N.D., whose Gas Stove Protection & Freedom Act passed the House but has languished in the Senate for a year, called the new rule being posted “incredibly frustrating and out of touch.”

“Americans are concerned about the fentanyl crisis that is crippling communities, and many Americans are worried about being able to provide for their families and put food on the table. Instead of considering the immediate needs of many Americans, the administration has chosen to prioritize attacking gas stoves to appease climate extremists,” Armstrong said, adding that it shows that the administration wants to control every aspect of life.

Heritage Action for America Vice President Ryan Walker said the Department of Energy is “villanizing natural gas” despite its affordability and clean-burning qualities.

“After insisting they had no plans to ban gas stoves, the Biden-Harris administration just plowed ahead with its new rule that may price the hugely popular appliances out of existence,” Walker said, adding, “The Left only cares about virtue signaling and pandering to their extreme base, not the hardworking Americans trying to make ends meet and put food on the table. The next conservative administration can and should reverse the Biden-Harris appliance crackdown.”

Democrats who were either vociferously opposed to Republican efforts to blunt regulations or in favor of such rules did not offer reaction to the news.

Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., D-N.J., the ranking member on the House Energy & Commerce Committee, said of 2023 efforts to stop such regulation, “House Republicans are once again putting polluters over people.”

Pallone did not respond to a request for comment.

Neither did Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-Pa., who previously called cost-related concerns about forcing Americans off natural gas a “conspiracy theory cooked up to embroil Congress in culture wars that shed more heat than light on the issues facing our nation.”

The Philadelphia lawmaker said in 2023 the rule proposed at the time would save consumers $1.7 billion collectively.

One longtime Democrat did, however, speak out against the original 2023 draft of the rule, as Sen. Joe Manchin, I-W.V., said the feds “have no business telling American families how to cook their dinner.”

‘Pregnant persons’: Ohio Sen Sherrod Brown scrubbed ‘women’ from bill on pregnancy

Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, quietly erased the words “women” and “woman” from a bill relating to insurance enrollment periods for pregnant women.

In 2015, the Ohio Democrat introduced the first iteration of the Healthy Maternity and Obstetric Medicine Act. It featured the word “women” 22 times, “maternity” 19 times and “woman” twice.

By last year, he had scrubbed it of references to women before the bill’s re-introduction. The 2023 version does not make any mention of “women” or “woman.” It also reduced references to “maternity” to only four.

‘PATH TO JUSTICE’: DURBIN URGES AUSTIN TO RETHINK REVOKING 9/11 MASTERMINDS’ PLEA DEALS

The measure itself seeks to establish a special health insurance enrollment period for pregnant women by amending the Public Health Service Act to require it by law.

Introduced several times, including in 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2023, the bill once featured a section titled, “Findings and Purpose.” Within that section, “women” were referenced 19 times in 2015 and 20 times in 2019.

According to the section, “Pregnancy is a significant life event for millions of women in the United States each year.”

Brown even referred to “sex-based discrimination,” claiming that federal law has determined that “treating pregnancy differently than other conditions” qualifies as such.

KAMALA HARRIS LED DEMS IN 2018 CALL TO REJECT MORE FUNDING FOR BORDER PATROL, ICE

The lengthy section was then inexplicably removed from both the 2021 and 2023 versions of the measure. The later iterations of the bill solely rely on the descriptors “pregnant person” and “pregnant individual” rather than “woman.”

When contacted by Fox News Digital, neither Brown’s office nor his campaign answered why the bill was scrubbed of references to women, despite being on the topic of pregnancy.

Brown’s campaign and office also did not respond to questions from Fox News Digital on whether he believes that anyone other than women can become pregnant or if he could cite an occasion when a man had given birth to a child.

The senator did not provide any comment to Fox News Digital in time for publication.

Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno, who is endorsed by former President Trump, is running to unseat Brown in November. In a statement to Fox News Digital, Moreno spokesperson Reagan McCarthy said, “By erasing women from a bill centered around women’s health care during pregnancy, Sherrod Brown is saying the quiet part out loud: he doesn’t believe that only women can get pregnant and wants to erase biological women’s unique abilities.”

“Brown isn’t just a far-left extremist, he’s also a bonafide weirdo.”

Brown is running for re-election in Ohio, a red state which has voted for Trump in the past two presidential elections. His race is rated a “Toss Up” by non-partisan political handicapper the Cook Political Report, alongside Senate match-ups in Montana and Michigan.

BIDEN REPEATS DEBUNKED CLAIM HE TRAVELED 17,000 MILES WITH CHINA’S XI JINPING

The vulnerable Ohio senator’s removal of “women” from the measure comes as a national debate on gender identity continues, with specific areas of contention in language, women’s sports and school-appropriate content. The decision to omit mention of women follows a trend among Democrats to include transgender individuals, who may be biologically a man or woman but say they identify as something else, in discussions on policy.

While only biological women can become pregnant, a woman might say she is transgender and identify as a man.

Republicans have sought to point out their Democratic counterparts’ ambiguity on inherently gendered subjects. GOP politicians and pundits have often questioned Democrats on the definition of a woman, frequently showcasing their opponents’ unwillingness to put the term in precise words.

'Election interference': Trump lawyers call for delayed sentencing in Bragg case thumbnail

‘Election interference’: Trump lawyers call for delayed sentencing in Bragg case

Lawyers for former President Trump are requesting his sentencing hearing in New York v. Trump be delayed until after the November presidential election, citing “naked election-interference objectives.”

Trump was found guilty in an unprecedented criminal trial on all counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, following a six-week trial stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation.

Trump has moved to overturn his criminal conviction in the Manhattan case after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a former president has substantial immunity for official acts committed while in office.

TRUMP’S APPEAL TO LIFT REMAINING PARTS OF NY GAG ORDER DENIED

His initial sentencing was set for July 11 — just days before the Republican National Convention, where he was set to be formally nominated as the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, but Judge Juan Merchan agreed to delay that until Sept. 18.

Trump attorney Todd Blanche on Thursday moved to further delay that sentencing hearing.

“The Court should adjourn any sentencing in this case, though one should not be necessary because dismissal and vacatur of the jury’s verdicts are required based on Presidential immunity, until after the 2024 Presidential election,” Blanche wrote in a letter to Merchan.

Blanche argued that the case “should be dismissed” and pointed to the fact that Vice President Kamala Harris, in her capacity as the Democratic presidential nominee, and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, in his capacity as the Democratic vice presidential nominee, “wrongly referred to this case in a public speech.”

Blanche also pointed to Merchan’s daughter’s work at Authentic Campaigns, which represents top Democratic candidates.

TRUMP TOUTS SUPREME COURT’S PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY RULING AS ‘BIG WIN FOR OUR CONSTITUTION AND FOR DEMOCRACY’

“Sentencing is currently scheduled to occur after the commencement of early voting in the Presidential election,” Blanche wrote. “By adjourning sentencing until after the election — which is of paramount importance to the entire nation, including tens of millions of people who do not share the views of Authentic, its executives, and its clients — the Court would reduce, even if not eliminate, issues regarding the integrity of any future proceedings.”

Blanche stressed that there is no need “to rush.”

“Setting aside naked election-interference objectives, there is no valid countervailing reason for the Court to keep the current sentencing date on the calendar,” Blanche wrote. “There is no basis for continuing to rush.”

NEW YORK V. TRUMP: MERCHAN DELAYS SENTENCING HEARING UNTIL SEPTEMBER

He added, “Accordingly, we respectfully request that any sentencing, if one is needed, be adjourned until after the Presidential election.”

In his arguments for dismissal, Blanche argued that Bragg offered official acts as evidence during the six-week-long unprecedented criminal trial. Blanche said that included official White House communications with staffers like Hope Hicks, Madeleine Westerhout and others.

The Supreme Court ruled in Trump v. United States that a former president has substantial immunity from prosecution for official acts in office but not for unofficial acts. The high court said Trump is immune from criminal prosecution for “official acts” but left it to the lower court to determine exactly where the line between official and unofficial is.

Harris does about-face on several far-left policies, distances herself from Biden thumbnail

Harris does about-face on several far-left policies, distances herself from Biden

Vice President Harris is doing an about-face on several far-left policies as she distances herself from President Biden and attempts to make a name of her own as the Democratic presidential nominee.

In her first policy speech in North Carolina later this week and then next week at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Harris plans to present to Americans who she is and how she will govern essentially for the first time since Biden backed out of the race and endorsed her presidential campaign.

In recent weeks, Harris has shifted on at least five major policy stances: mandatory assault rifle buybacks, fracking, immigration, health care and a federal jobs guarantee.

While campaigning for president in 2019, she endorsed a mandatory buyback program for assault rifles.

“We have to have a buyback program, and I support a mandatory gun buyback program,” Harris said in October 2019, according to NBC News. “It’s got to be smart, we got to do it the right way. But there are 5 million [assault weapons] at least, some estimate as many as 10 million, and we’re going to have to have smart public policy that’s about taking those off the streets, but doing it the right way.”

In 2024, a Harris spokesperson says she wouldn’t push a mandatory buyback program for assault rifles.

TRACKING KAMALA HARRIS’ POLICY REVERSALS: A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF KEY ISSUE FLIP-FLOPS

Harris also now contradicts what she stated during a September 2019 CNN Town Hall on fracking. An audience member asked at the time, “From contaminated groundwater to poisonous emissions – will you commit to implementing a federal ban on fracking your first day in office, adding the United States to the list of countries who have banned this devastating practice?”

“There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking, so yes,” Harris said then. “And starting – and starting with what we can do on day one around public lands, right? And then there has to be legislation, but yes – and this is something I’ve taken on in California. I have a history of working on this issue.”

In 2024, Harris’ campaign says the vice president “does not support a total ban on fracking.”

Five years ago, Harris called for decriminalizing border crossings and reconfiguring U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

She also raised her hand on the NBC News debate stage on June 27, 2019, when host Jose Diaz-Balart asked, “We had a very spirited debate on this stage last night on the topic of decriminalization of the border. If you’d be so kind, raise your hand if you think it should be a civil offense rather than a crime to cross the border without documentation? Can we keep the hands up so we could see them?”

Now she calls for “strong border security and an earned pathway to citizenship.”

Harris said she would eliminate private insurance and institute a single-payer health care program in 2019. She famously changed her “answer” the morning after the June 27, 2019, debated hosted by NBC News, saying she misunderstood the question and favored keeping supplemental private health insurance. She lost support from some progressives after the switch.

Harris and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., had raised their hands when host Lester Holt asked debate participants, “Many people watching at home have health insurance through their employer. Who here would abolish their private health insurance in favor of a government-run plan?”

In 2024, the Harris campaign says she no longer supports a single-payer health insurance program.

The Biden administration has not pursued a federal jobs guarantee. However, there were two instances of Harris at the debates in 2019 supporting the Green New Deal, which included a federal jobs guarantee. And in one of the clips, CNN host Dana Bash goes on to note that right after her answer.

“We currently have a president in the White House who obviously does not understand the science. He’s been pushing science fiction instead of science fact. The guy thinks that wind turbines cause cancer, but what in fact they cause is jobs,” Harris said during the July 31, 2019, Democratic Debate hosted by CNN. “And the reality is that I would take any Democrat on this stage over the current President of the United States, who is rolling it back to our collective peril. We must have and adopt a Green New Deal. On day one as president.”

KAMALA HARRIS PANNED FOR REQUIRING ID TO ENTER ARIZONA RALLY AFTER PREVIOUSLY PAINTING VOTER ID LAWS AS RACIST

Harris, short for time, added she would re-enter the Paris Agreement and aim to be carbon-neutral by 2030. “Thank you, Senator,” Bash interjects. “I want to talk about that with Senator Gillibrand. You’re a co-sponsor of the Green New Deal, which includes the guarantee of a job with medical leave, paid vacations, and retirement security for everyone in America. Explain how that’s realistic.”

Harris’ advisers privately told Axios this week that she wants to break with Biden’s unpopularity on the economy and rising prices.

In Raleigh on Friday, she will propose how to tackle lowering costs on health care, housing and food for middle-class consumers, as well as how she’ll “take on corporate price-gouging.”

Harris reportedly wants to present clearer, more urgent solutions on inflation, considered one of the largest domestic policy issues of her campaign. In their first joint trip since Biden discontinued his re-election campaign, he and Harris will make an appearance together in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The event is slated to discuss lowering costs for Americans.

While campaigning for president in 2019, Harris said she was against fracking, supported decriminalizing illegal border crossings and was in favor of single-payer health care, known as Medicare for All. Now, during her short, three-month window bid for the White House in 2024, she backtracked on all three.

She also copied Republican presidential nominee and former President Trump’s “no tax on tips” campaign promise after calculating how well it appealed in the swing state of Nevada to a key constituency of working class, largely immigrant service and hospitality employees.

In her snap campaign for president, Harris plans to capitalize on the fact that most people know little about her to unapologetically change some of her more liberal positions.

She’s aiming to bill herself as the change agent in the race and wants her focus on the cost of groceries to communicate that she better relates to typical households than Trump, according to Axios.

Gallup polling indicates 80% of U.S. adults are dissatisfied with the direction of the country.

The vice president said at rallies she would make fighting inflation a Day 1 priority if she is elected president in November despite already serving in the White House. This week, the Biden administration did announce an initiative to “Lower Costs for Families and Fight Corporate Rip-Offs.”

A new campaign video also paints Harris as coming from middle-class roots, as the vice president speaks of her job working at McDonald’s while attending Howard University.

Harris’ plan also centers on her record as a prosecutor, as she plans to highlight settlement wins in price-fixing cases as California attorney general, Axios reported.

Harris’ plan also centers on her record as a prosecutor, as she plans to highlight settlement wins in price-fixing cases as California attorney general, Axios reported.  Fox News’ Mary Schlageter contributed to this report. , , Harris does about-face on several far-left policies, distances herself from Biden, https://a57.foxnews.com/static.foxnews.com/foxnews.com/content/uploads/2023/11/931/523/GettyImages-1782477881.jpg?ve=1&tl=1, Latest Political News on Fox News, Read all about the political news happening with Fox News. RFK Jr. asked Harris for Cabinet post in exchange for dropping out, endorsing her: report

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. tried to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris to discuss the possibility of him dropping out of the race and endorsing her in exchange for a position in her administration.

Kennedy, whose long-shot bid for president took a hit earlier this week when a judge ruled his name should not appear on New York’s ballot, sought out the meeting with Harris in hopes of landing a potential Cabinet secretary position in her future administration, according to a report from the Washington Post.

Harris and her campaign have yet to respond with an offer to meet the independent candidate, the report notes, nor have they shown any interest in entertaining his proposal.

RFK JR. DISQUALIFIED FROM NEW YORK BALLOT, USED ‘SHAM’ ADDRESS FOR RESIDENCY, JUDGE RULES

The longshot contender’s outreach was made through intermediaries, and comes after Kennedy made similar overtures to former President Trump during a meeting at last month’s convention in Milwaukee, which also resulted in no agreement between the two sides.

Kennedy, who polling has shown as one of the most disruptive independent candidates in decades, could be looking to leverage his position and drop out of the race, throwing his weight and considerable pull with his supporters behind the candidate who will allow him to continue having an influence past the election.

Nevertheless, Kennedy has continued to campaign and make regular media appearances with the expectation that he can win the election, the report notes, though he has left open the possibility of meeting with or getting out of the way of either Harris or Trump if they share an openness for his vision for the country.

“From the beginning of this campaign, we were saying people should be talking to each other,” Kennedy told the Washington Post. “That is the only way of unifying the country.”

Kennedy also expressed hope that Harris would reconsider his offer to meet, arguing that it is a “strategic mistake” for the Democrat’s campaign.

JFK’S ASSASSINATION CUT SHORT MY UNCLE’S VISION BUT WE MUST REVIVE IT, NOT FORGET IT

“That’s my perspective,” Kennedy said. “I think they ought to be looking at every opportunity. I think it is going to be a very close race.”

The independent candidate would later take to social media, saying in a post on X Thursday that he has no intention of endorsing Harris.

“VP Harris’s Democratic Party would be unrecognizable to my father and uncle and I cannot reconcile it with my values,” Kennedy said in the post. “I have no plans to endorse Kamala Harris for President. I do have a plan to defeat her.”

Meanwhile, speculation continues that Kennedy and the Trump campaign could come to an agreement to bring the independent candidate into the fold. According to the Washington Post, the independent candidate was spotted at a hotel not far from Trump’s florida home and campaign headquarters.

Speaking to the Washington Post on the condition of anonymity, Trump campaign advisers said that they are in touch with Kennedy’s senior team and that there is an expectation he will drop out and throw his support behind the former president.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment.

Kennedy also noted he has had no contact with the Democratic Party since launching his independent campaign, which sparked a legal battle with the Democratic National Committee in an attempt to derail his and other third party campaigns.

Harris camp silent on when VP will hold press conference as Trump preps to host his second in a week

The Harris campaign has remained mum on when Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a formal press conference, or why she has not held one since she emerged as the Democratic Party’s nominee, while former President Donald Trump prepares to hold his second press conference in a week this afternoon.

Harris became the de facto Democratic nominee on July 21, when President Biden exited the race and passed the torch to Harris through an endorsement. Harris has not held a formal press conference or joined a sit-down interview with the media in the 25 days since Biden endorsed her and she officially clinched the nomination in a subsequent “virtual” roll-call vote less than two weeks later.

Fox News Digital reached out to the campaign this week asking if there were plans to schedule a formal press conference and when, as well as inquiring why the vice president has not held one in more than three weeks. The campaign did not respond to the requests.

Campaign spokespeople have been pressed about the issue during interviews on news shows, but have also demurred on giving an answer. Instead, both Harris and members of her campaign have said she plans to hold a sit-down interview by the end of August. Details on a date or which outlet will hold the interview have not yet been released.

KAMALA HARRIS’ GLOWING TIME COVER DRAGGED BY CRITICS: ‘JOURNOS WORSHIPPING POLITICIANS, TERRIFIC’

“I’ve talked to my team, I want us to get an interview scheduled before the end of the month,” Harris said last week after a campaign event in Michigan.

The vice president has been criss-crossing the country over the last roughly three weeks as she works to earn support from voters. Biden dropped out of the race amid mounting concerns surrounding his mental acuity and 81 years of age, leaving Harris with just under 100 days to campaign.

Harris has taken a handful of questions from the media while on the campaign trail, but she has snubbed the media by not holding pressers or sit-down interviews. Time magazine earlier this month published a glowing cover story on Harris, but the vice president didn’t agree to an interview for the piece. Instead, that article quoted aides and allies who lauded Harris as a formidable candidate against former President Donald Trump.

Pressure has built on the campaign to hold a press conference, including CNN’s Jim Acosta questioning Harris communications director Michael Tyler this week on air.

“I’m sure this is not going to be the first time you’ve heard this question, but the Trump campaign is also going after the vice president for not doing enough interviews, for not holding a press conference. Would it kill you guys to have a press conference? Why hasn’t she had a press conference?” Acosta asked.

25 DAYS: KAMALA HARRIS HAS NOT HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE SINCE EMERGING AS PRESUMPTIVE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE

Tyler said that she and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz have been “busy” traveling across the country, citing multiple campaign rallies.

“Michael, you know a campaign rally isn’t really a press conference,” Acosta said to Tyler. “Why hasn’t she had a press conference? She’s the vice president, she can handle the questions, why not do it?”

Tyler said that Harris will hold a press conference at some point and would sit down for an interview with a media outlet by the end of the month.

The left-leaning Washington Post editorial board also challenged Harris over dodging the media on Sunday, saying of her opponent, “At least he has taken questions.”

CNN HOST PRESSES HARRIS CAMPAIGN SPOX ON VP’S SCHEDULE AS SHE AVOIDS PRESS: ‘SHE HAS TIME’ FOR AN INTERVIEW

Trump and allies of the 45th president have used Harris’ lack of media availability as a point of attack.

”It’s pretty sad when you think that somebody that does this for a living can’t answer a question or is afraid to do an interview, and in her case, with a very friendly interview. She’s got all friendly interviewers,” Trump said of Harris Monday evening during his roughly two-hour interview with tech billionaire Elon Musk on X Space.

Some have said that Harris is pulling a move from Biden’s 2020 playbook, when Biden carried out a cloistered campaign strategy during the pandemic, which earned him the nickname “Basement Joe” from Trump.

“Kamala Harris should absolutely hold a press conference. One would expect it when she names her vice-presidential pick. But we cannot expect her to break from Biden’s serial avoidance of press conferences,” NewsBusters executive editor Tim Graham previously told Fox News Digital.

FORMER CLINTON AIDE PAUL BEGALA DEFENDS HARRIS AVOIDING THE MEDIA: ‘WHO CARES’?

“Since the 2020 campaign, we have witnessed the bizarre spectacle of Donald Trump granting wide access to networks that suggest he’s a fascist and hammer him daily, while Biden and Harris won’t grant interviews to media outlets that gurgle all over them and their ‘historic accomplishments,’” he continued. “Either they think the press can never be servile enough, or they are projecting a complete lack of confidence in their efforts to put complete sentences together.”

Some supporters of the vice president say that her strategy of avoiding the media is a winning one as she continues building out her campaign before the DNC in Chicago next week.

“Where is it written that you have to sit down for a press interview?” longtime Democratic consultant James Carville told the New York Times. “They’ve had to pick a vice president, plan a convention, move around, do this, do that, and she’s already agreed to a debate.”

Meanwhile, Trump has been more available to the media, holding press conferences at his homes in Florida and New Jersey, in addition to campaigning, and joining a two-hour conversational interview with Musk this week. Musk invited Harris to join him for a similar interview ahead of the election, but the campaign has not said whether Harris will accept.

‘So abhorrent’: Federal judge rules against UCLA in lawsuit over ‘Jew Exclusion Zone’

A Los Angeles federal district Tuesday ordered the University of California, Los Angeles, to stop allowing and assisting antisemitic agitators to ban Jews from large parts of UCLA’s campus.

In the wake of the horrifying attack in Israel on Oct. 7, anti-Israel activists on campus set up barricades in the center of campus that blocked access to critical educational infrastructure on campus.

In a lawsuit filed by Becket Law and co-counsel Clement & Murphy PLLC, the religious liberty firm accused UCLA of “aiding and abetting” an antisemetic culture, including what effectively became a “Jew Exclusion Zone” on campus, “segregating Jewish students and preventing them from accessing the heart of campus.”

“To enter the Jew Exclusion Zone, a person had to make a statement pledging their allegiance to the activists’ views and have someone within the encampment ‘vouch’ for the individual’s fidelity to the activists’ cause,” the lawsuit said. “[T]he practical effect was to deny the overwhelming majority of Jews access to the heart of the campus.”

CALIFORNIA RABBI PUTS COLLEGES ON NOTICE AFTER ‘NATIONAL FAILURE’ TO PROTECT JEWISH STUDENTS

The lawsuit claimed that “UCLA’s administration knew about the activists’ extreme actions, including the exclusion of Jews.”

“But, in a remarkable display of cowardice, appeasement, and illegality, the administration did nothing to stop it.”

UCLA Chancellor Gene Block publicly acknowledged that “‘students on their way to class have been physically blocked from accessing parts of the campus,’” the suit states.

On Tuesday, a federal district court in California sided with the Jewish students, saying, “In the year 2024, in the United States of America, in the State of California, in the City of Los Angeles, Jewish students were excluded from portions of the UCLA campus because they refused to denounce their faith. This fact is so unimaginable and so abhorrent to our constitutional guarantee of religious freedom that it bears repeating, Jewish students were excluded from portions of the UCLA campus because they refused to denounce their faith.”

UCLA STUDENT SLAMS UNIVERSITY FOR ‘ENCOURAGING VIOLENCE,’ TURNING CAMPUS INTO ‘WAR ZONE’: ‘THIS IS A DISGRACE’

“UCLA does not dispute this. Instead, UCLA claims that it has no responsibility to protect the religious freedom of its Jewish students because the exclusion was engineered by third-party protesters. But under constitutional principles, UCLA may not allow services to some students when UCLA knows that other students are excluded on religious grounds, regardless of who engineered the exclusion,” Judge Mark C. Scarsi said in the court order.

Yitzchok Frankel is a third-year law student at UCLA and father of four who said he faced antisemitic harassment last semester for wearing a kippah and was forced to abandon his regular routes through campus because of the Jew Exclusion Zone.

“No student should ever have to fear being blocked from their campus because they are Jewish,” Frankel said. “I am grateful that the court has ordered UCLA to put a stop to this shameful anti-Jewish conduct.”

Frankel detailed how UCLA’s continued failures have forced him to cancel plans on campus with his family and to forgo opportunities to mentor incoming Jewish students on campus during orientation week. Eden Shemuelian, another law student, said he has also had to avoid using campus facilities and participating in law school orientation events because of UCLA’s continuing failures to ensure the safety and equal access of Jewish students.

UCLA FORCED TO MOVE TO REMOTE LEARNING AMID ANTISEMITIC PROTESTS, ENCAMPMENT ON CAMPUS

Tuesday’s ruling said that Frankel, Shemuelian and others should be allowed to return to campus without facing such antisemitic bigotry. The court-ordered injunction is the first in the nation against a university for allowing an antisemitic encampment to be established on campus.

The injunction goes into effect today, Aug. 15. UCLA is expected to appeal the ruling to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mary Osako, UCLA vice chancellor for strategic communications, told Fox News Digital that the school is “closely reviewing the Judge’s ruling and considering all our options moving forward.”

“UCLA is committed to fostering a campus culture where everyone feels welcome and free from intimidation, discrimination, and harassment,” Osako said. “The district court’s ruling would improperly hamstring our ability to respond to events on the ground and to meet the needs of the Bruin community.”

JD Vance agrees to debate Tim Walz on Oct. 1

Ohio Sen. JD Vance announced Thursday that he has accepted an invitation to debate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Oct. 1.

“The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already,” Vance wrote in a post on X. “Not only do I accept the CBS debate on October 1st, I accept the CNN debate on September 18th as well. I look forward to seeing you at both!”

Walz, who is Vice President Harris’ running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket, said on X yesterday “See you on October 1, JD.”

CBS News said in a prior statement that it invited both candidates to a debate in New York City, with Oct. 1 being one of the available dates.

WHAT JD VANCE TOLD FOX NEWS DIGITAL IN AN EXCLUSIVE CAMPAIGN TRAIL INTERVIEW

“We look forward to their responses and providing voters with an opportunity to hear directly from the vice-presidential candidates,” the network said.

Although Vance said on X that he would debate Walz on CNN on Sept. 18 – it’s not immediately clear if Walz will attend that date.

The Harris campaign did not immediately respond Thursday to a request for comment from Fox News Digital, but later released a statement saying “The debate about debates is over.

“Donald Trump’s campaign accepted our proposal for three debates — two presidential and a vice presidential debate. Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1 and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October,” the Harris campaign said.

JD Vance then responded to the campaign’s statement by writing on X “Tim Walz refuses to deploy!”

“In all seriousness, if you want to be the VP of the United States, you should make your pitch directly to the American people. A debate is an opportunity to take your case to voters without a teleprompter or a script. Can’t imagine why anyone would say no,” he said.

CNN is quoting a spokesperson as saying that the network “invited both Senator Vance and Governor Walz to a Vice Presidential debate this fall, and Senator Vance has accepted.”

“We are always in communication with the campaigns around opportunities for the American public to hear from leading candidates for President and Vice President of the United States, and we look forward to this programming in the fall,” the spokesperson added.
