Former Vice President Kamala Harris raised eyebrows by claiming that the 2024 presidential election between she and President Donald Trump was the closest presidential race this century.
During a speaking event in Houston, Texas on Saturday to promote her new memoir, 107 Days, Harris heaped praise upon herself for running an “unprecedented” general election campaign in just a little over three months. Mediate noted that Harris was behaving somewhat erratically throughout her speech, oftentimes getting up from her seat and shouting.
“Here’s the other thing that is quite unprecedented — and, it was the tightest, closest presidential election in the 21st Century. He does not have a mandate! That is not a mandate! That is not a mandate!’”
Harris’ head-scratching proclamation was well received by the crowd at the Hobby Center for Performing Arts, which seats 2,650. “And he never did!” One attendee could be heard yelling back, insinuating that the election was rigged in favor of President Donald Trump.
Harris then joked that moderator Carlos Eduardo Espina, a self-described “community organizer and immigrant rights activist,” was so animated by her speech that he too had to get up and celebrate, Mediate reported.

The former vice president’s claim about the closeness of the 2024 presidential election is patently false, as President Donald Trump won all swing states and become the first Republican to win the popular vote since 2004. Trump’s margins in multiple key battlegrounds were also much larger than former President Joe Biden’s winning margins in 2020.
For example, Joe Biden narrowly carried Arizona by a margin of just 10,457 votes, while President Trump carried the state by a little over 187,000 votes last November.
After opting not to hop in the California gubernatorial race, Harris has embarked on a national speaking tour to promote her 107 Days memoir. Democratic Party insiders have reported that Harris’ tour is also aimed at gauging interest in a potential comeback bid in 2024.
The former vice president took a number of jabs at prominent Democrats in her new book, including her former running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Harris indicated that she picked Walz as a last resort after concluding that former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, her preferred choice, could not be elected due to his sexual orientation.
Harris also criticized Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, another potential 2028 candidate, by essentially describing him as arrogant and claiming that he would outshine her. Shapiro fired back at the subtle jab by stating that Harris will “need to answer” for her role in covering up Biden’s cognitive decline.
