Fox News is giving one of its sharpest reporters a bigger stage, tapping Bill Melugin as its new congressional correspondent in Washington.
Melugin has been a fixture on the West Coast, turning out tough, highly sourced reporting on immigration, border enforcement, and the wildfires that hammered Southern California earlier this year. He grew up in Orange County, a background he says shaped his instincts in the field.
“If I grew up in Minnesota and had to come out here to cover the fires, I’d have no idea what I was doing or where I should be going,” Melugin told The Hollywood Reporter. “But if you grew up in SoCal, you grew up with fire. When I was 3 years old, we had the Laguna Canyon Fire in ’93 that almost burned our house down.”

On Thursday, he confirmed the move himself. “Personal update! Excited to announce that I’ve moved to Washington D.C. where I’ll be taking on a new role with @FoxNews as a Congressional Correspondent covering Capitol Hill,” he wrote on X. “Thrilled to join the team here & I’m ready to get to work!”

His new turf puts him at the center of the country’s political knife fights, with Congress driving nearly every national showdown. Melugin is already on the ground in Washington.
“Bill’s dogged dedication to uncovering the story and deep understanding of national issues make him an excellent fit to cover the complex world of Congress,” Fox News president and executive editor Jay Wallace said.
