The Trump administration is pushing to move former election clerk Tina Peters out of a Colorado state prison and into federal custody, according to state officials and one of her attorneys.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons sent a letter to the Colorado Department of Corrections requesting the transfer, The Associated Press reported.
Peter Ticktin, one of Peters’s defense lawyers, said the letter offered no explanation for the request, but he believes it may relate to health issues she has faced behind bars and could allow her to play a larger role in ongoing federal investigations into voting machines used in 2020.
Peters was convicted by a jury last year on seven counts, including four felonies, after she helped outsiders access Mesa County’s voting equipment in a hunt for voter fraud that she and her allies never proved. She was acquitted on three lesser charges.

Prosecutors said Peters used a county employee’s stolen security badge to sneak an unauthorized man into the county’s voting systems as part of an effort to fuel MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell’s false claims about the 2020 election.
Trump blasted her prosecution on Truth Social, saying she was “horribly and unjustly punished in the form of Cruel and Unusual Punishment,” and warned of “harsh measures” if she were not released.
“FREE TINA PETERS, a brave and innocent Patriot who has been tortured by Crooked Colorado politicians, including the big Mail-In Ballot supporting the governor of the State,” Trump wrote. “Let Tina Peters out of jail, RIGHT NOW.”
