The actress who appeared on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and was struck and killed by a taxi in Midtown was a longtime Customs and Border Protection officer who had been looking forward to retirement, heartbroken neighbors told The New York Post.
Wendy Davis, known professionally as Wenne Alton Davis, worked full-time at John F. Kennedy International Airport and had even pushed through the recent federal shutdown without pay. She picked up acting roles on the side, including a part as a cop on the hit Amazon series.
“She was a very bright and kind person,” said Miok Lee, her 80-year-old neighbor in Queens. “She was always very active. She did sports, I believe she did rowing. She was very lively. I saw her just a few days ago, and we said hello. Oh my gosh, it’s so sad, it’s so shocking, my goodness.”
Davis was crossing Broadway near West 53rd Street just before 9 p.m. Monday when police say a 61-year-old taxi driver in a Cadillac hit her while making a left turn. The 60-year-old suffered severe head and body trauma and was rushed to Mount Sinai West, where she died.
Neighbors remembered her as warm, hardworking, and endlessly friendly.

“She was the best, she was so nice,” said another Forest Hills resident. “She was always working. I would see her walking out at 4 a.m. or coming back at 2 a.m. She was working towards her retirement. This is a shock.” The neighbor added that Davis lived alone with her beloved cat, Roxie. “This last weekend she went to go visit her parents and now this happened. It’s unbelievable.”
Davis’ IMDb page lists nine additional acting credits, including small roles in “Shame” (2011) and the 2004 short film “Ladies Room.”
“She was super friendly,” said neighbor Davin Hatsengate. “I didn’t know she was an actress. I guess she just wanted to be a regular neighbor. It’s terrible.”
The JFK Customs Hockey Club mourned her death in an Instagram post Tuesday, calling it a loss felt “deeply across our entire JFK Customs family” and extending condolences to her loved ones.
The taxi driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday.
