Senator Johnson Fetterman (D-PA) condemned recent statements from Jennifer Welch, a far-left podcast host who has recently gained traction on the left for inflammatory, anti-Trump/Christian statements.
Welch, co-host of the “I’ve Had It” podcast, made critical remarks about Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on September 10. The comments came during a recent episode, in response to Erika Kirk’s recent public appearances and statements on topics like marriage and family.
Welch described Erika Kirk as an “opportunistic grifter who weaponizes your gender to demean women” and a “walking, talking, breathing example as to why nobody… wants to be a Christian” or “a female hypocrite such as yourself.”
She further accused Kirk’s student activist organization of making “women less safe” and previously insinuated that mocking Kirk’s death was a great thing.
“Your deceased husband was an unrepentant racist and a homophobe, and women are a lot more empathetic than you are, Erika.” Welch ranted.
“This woman should be kicked to the curb. She is an absolute grifter — just like Donald Trump and just like her unrepentant, racist, homophobic husband was.”
Fetterman, who has garnered a reputation for pushing back on the Democratic Party’s fringe elements, responded by condemning Welch’s remarks.
“It’s gross and dehumanizing to attack a widow with young children after just witnessing his public assassination. It shouldn’t be controversial to put our political views aside and extend the grace for a deeply traumatized family to grieve. This is disgusting,” he said.

Fetterman has consistently spoken against political violence. Immediately after the September 10, 2025, shooting (before Kirk’s death was confirmed), he posted: “I condemn this in the strongest terms. There is ZERO place in our great country for these horrendous acts of political violence. We must find a better way forward. May Charlie Kirk have a full and quick recovery.” Later that day, he added: “Our family grieves for Charlie Kirk’s family. We must collectively find a way forward during these polarized times.”
In a November 2025 interview with Katie Couric, Fetterman called the assassination video “horrific” and stated that political violence is “unacceptable,” even when disagreeing with someone’s views. He emphasized that debate is part of democracy but does not justify violence, and urged reducing “extreme rhetoric.”
Welch’s podcast has soared in popularity among left-wing political circles due to her “outspoken” persona.
Other controversial statements include laughing in an October 2025 episode at footage of a protester saying “F— Charlie Kirk” shortly after his death, and praising it as an example of strong anti-MAGA sentiment. She has frequently criticized Donald Trump with profane language, called MAGA supporters “fascists” or “self-hating dweebs,” and faulted centrist Democrats for not being aggressive enough.
The podcast has interviewed figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, among others.
