Hegseth fires Navy chief of staff in latest shakeup at Pentagon

War Secretary Pete Hegseth fired Navy chief of staff Jon Harrison on Friday night, in what is the latest instance of a reshuffling at the Pentagon.

The Pentagon confirmed Harrison’s departure from the high-ranking role in a brief statement to Politico thanking him for his service, which lasted just 10 months.

“He [Harrison] will no longer serve as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of the Navy. We are grateful for his service to the Department,” the statement said.

Before his time as chief of staff, Harrison worked in the defense industry, specifically for Albers Aerospace. He had also served in President Donald Trump’s first administration as chairman of the U.S. Arctic Research Commission, an independent federal agency that advises the president on policy for the Arctic region.

Harrison’s ouster is the most recent shakeup at the Pentagon, after Hegseth has fired multiple senior advisers and military leaders throughout the year thus far.

The war secretary recently defended those decisions in a speech at a gathering of hundreds of top military officials, stressing the need to root out military leaders from the previous Biden administration who were part of what he called the “woke department.”

Hegseth’s firing of Harrison also comes as a key position was filled in the Navy earlier this week.

HUNG CAO, FORMER VIRGINIA SENATE CANDIDATE CONFIRMED TO NO. 2 NAVY POST

On Wednesday, the Senate confirmed Hung Cao, a veteran who ran an unsuccessful Senate campaign in 2024, as undersecretary of the Navy.

The confirmation means Cao will now serve in the No. 2 post under Navy Secretary John Phelan.
