Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, forced a showdown on Capitol Hill Wednesday by filing articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump and triggering a mandatory House vote later this week.
Green made his resolution “privileged,” a procedural move that requires the House to act within two legislative days. He has introduced impeachment articles against Trump at least five times this year, but this marks the first time he has forced leadership to put it on the floor.
His latest filing accuses Trump of “calling for the execution of six Democratic lawmakers” and threatening judges. The charge stems from Trump’s comments after several Democrats urged members of the military to “refuse illegal orders.”
“President Trump is an abuser of presidential power who, if left in office, will continue to promote violence, engender invidious hate, undermine our democracy, and dissolve our Republic,” Green said.

Green has repeatedly failed to rally his own party behind removing the president. In June, House Democrats overwhelmingly voted down another attempt, that one targeting Trump for ordering airstrikes on Iran.
But Trump isn’t the only administration official facing impeachment articles. This week, Democrats filed measures to remove Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and War Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., moved against Kennedy on Wednesday, claiming he has failed in his duties. “Today, I formally introduced articles of impeachment against Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. RFK Jr. has turned his back on science and the safety of the American people. Michiganders cannot take another day of his chaos,” she wrote.
Rep. Shri Thanedar, D-Mich., targeted Hegseth, citing reports that he issued orders to “kill everybody” onboard a suspected drug-running vessel. “Pete Hegseth has been using the United States military to extrajudicially assassinate people without evidence of any crime,” Thanedar said. “Former military attorneys have come out and asserted that his conduct constitutes war crimes. We cannot allow his reprehensible conduct to continue, which is why I have filed these articles to impeach him.”
The House is now bound to take up Green’s impeachment effort, setting the stage for a vote Democrat leadership has repeatedly tried to avoid and one that is almost certain to fail again.
