Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents near a riverbank in Starr County, Texas.
According to a statement from the Starr County Sheriff’s Office, Border Patrol agents were “involved in a struggle prior to the shooting,” which was confirmed at about 5:30 p.m. The sheriff’s office has asked the public to stay away from the scene as officers secure the area.
Law enforcement further confirmed that the incident took place on Midway Road between Rio Grande City and Roma, right along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Texas Department of Safety told local outlet KRGV that a suspect was killed in a struggle with Border Patrol agents who were attempting to make an arrest. “The Texas Department of Public Safety can confirm that the Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the U.S. Border Patrol in Starr County,” agency spokesman Chris Olivarez announced in a statement.
“During the incident, one suspect was shot and later pronounced deceased at Starr County Memorial Hospital,” the statement continued. “This remains an active and ongoing investigation. No further details are available at this time.”

The incident comes as Texas Department of Public Safety troopers continue to find illegal aliens who managed to sneak past the border in the area, Breitbart News reported. Despite the fact that illegal border crossings and illegal alien “getaway” encounters have plunged to record lows, cartel-linked drug-traffickers and human smugglers continue to operate along the border under life-threatening conditions.
Officials told the outlet that recent arrests highlight the ongoing danger posed by human smugglers who show “complete disregard for public safety and human life.”
