Johnson calls out Harris for illegal voting ‘catastrophe’ during border visit

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) targeted Vice President Kamala Harris during a border visit to Southern California, blaming her for allowing noncitizens to vote.

Johnson’s comments came as he visited the San Ysidro Port of Entry alongside Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) on Friday. The Republican leader called San Diego “the epicenter of the Biden-Harris border catastrophe” as he blamed Democrats and urged Congress to pass an election integrity bill that prevents illegal immigrants from voting in U.S. elections.

As he held a press conference at the migrant hot spot, Johnson said he believes roughly 16 million illegal immigrants have crossed into the United States during the Biden-Harris administration. The Republican leader proceeded to call out “the border czar and San Francisco-radical Kamala Harris,” saying she “bears responsibility for this disaster.”

Johnson worried that if “just a fraction” of illegal immigrants vote, they could flip critical congressional seats and even change the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.

The House speaker expressed concern over voter registration laws from the 1990s that he believes could allow illegal immigrants to vote in U.S. elections.

“If someone goes to the local office to sign up for public benefits, they’re also handed a short form that says, ‘Do you want to register to vote?’” Johnson warned during the press conference. He said it is “outrageous” that “there’s no proof required” to vote and claimed Harris “want[s] to allow illegal aliens to decide American elections.”

The law in California states that to register to vote you must be “a United States citizen and a resident of California.” However, the documents required to register, which include a driver’s license, a state ID, the last four digits of your Social Security number, and verification of your birth date, may not indicate citizenship.

Johnson said the SAVE Act, passed by the House earlier this month, is the key to ensuring election integrity. Johnson slammed “Kamala Harris and 198 House Democrats” for opposing the legislation that requires proof of ID in order to vote.

“Only Americans should decide American elections,” Johnson said.

Cruz launches multi-million dollar Spanish ad campaign as GOP courts Hispanic vote

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) launched a multi-million dollar Spanish advertising campaign as the GOP looks to expand outreach to Hispanic voters.

The 4.4 million dollar campaign will be primarily targeted to Latino voters in Texas, according to Axios. The announcement comes as Cruz makes a reelection bid for a third term in the Senate.

Macarena Martinez, a spokeswoman for the Cruz campaign, told the Washington Examiner, “We are proud to announce our seven-figure investment in the Hispanic community.”

“It has long been said that Hispanics are Republican, they just don’t know it yet, which is why Senator Cruz is committed to ensuring that every Hispanic household hears his message loud and clear,” the spokeswoman said. “This election is about Keeping Texas, Texas, and the Hispanic community is integral to making sure that happens in November.”

Hispanics represent a powerful voting block in the U.S. that is especially crucial in Texas. In Cruz’s home state, Hispanics outnumber non-Latino whites, while 28% of Texans speak Spanish at home.

Nationwide, the number of eligible Hispanic voters has nearly doubled since 2000. As the voting block grows, the politically independent voting block appears to be shifting to the Right. In the 2012 presidential election, Republican presidential nominee  Mitt Romney took only 27% of the Hispanic vote. Eight years and two presidential cycles later, former President Donald Trump claimed 38% of the Latino vote.

As November approaches, Trump is battling to expand his margin of support with Hispanics. In July, his campaign touted their recent survey showing Harris has the support of 43% of Hispanics to 42% for Trump. In 2020, Biden won 59% of the Hispanic vote.

While nationwide, Hispanics may be leaning towards a Trump candidacy, Texas Latinos aren’t necessarily rushing toward Republicans across the state. In 2022, Gov. Greg Abbot (R-TX) received approximately 40% of the Latino vote in his 2022 gubernatorial race, a slight decline from 42% four years earlier.

The slight decline in Hispanic support is mirrored in Cruz’s Senate races. Pew Research Center stated that during the Republican’s 2018 Senate race against Beto O’Rourke, 35% of Latinos supported Cruz. That’s a narrow drop from Cruz’s initial 2012 bid for the Senate when polling showed that 40% of Hispanics voted for Cruz.

However, other indicators suggest there remains a trend toward the GOP even in the Lone Star State. In March, conservative lawmakers launched the Texas Hispanic Republican Caucus, saying its’ formation “marks a significant development in the Texas Legislature, highlighting a newfound cohesion among the Hispanic Republican members across both chambers of the Texas Capitol.”

Texas Hispanics also appear to be enthusiastic about a Trump presidency. In April, polling showed the former president held a 4% edge with Texan Latinos over the then-presumed Democratic nominee President Joe Biden.

Deadly Sinaloa cartel leader ‘El Mayo’ arrested in Texas: DOJ

Mexican cartel leader Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada was arrested in Texas for spearheading fentanyl manufacturing and trafficking networks, according to the Department of Justice.

El Mayo is the alleged ringleader of a notorious drug trafficking ring that funnels fentanyl into the United States. His arrest in the Justice Department’s sting operation, alongside fellow gang leader Joaquin Guzman Lopez, comes as the DOJ states that fentanyl is the “deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced.” Fentanyl trafficking into the U.S. surged in 2016, and hundreds of thousands of Americans have died because of the drug over the past five years.

The DOJ announced it had arrested the two Sinaloa cartel leaders in El Paso, Texas, in a press release on Thursday.

“The Justice Department has taken into custody two additional alleged leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations in the world,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “Ismael Zambada Garcia, or ‘El Mayo,’ cofounder of the Cartel, and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, a son of its other cofounder, were arrested today in El Paso, Texas.”

Lopez convinced El Mayo to get on a private plane and told him they were going south in Mexico, but instead, the plane went north into El Paso, where agents were waiting for the two leaders, according to a source speaking with Fox News.

Lopez reportedly turned on El Mayo because he was upset with the leader over the 2016 capture of Lopez’s father, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign team backed out of a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, saying it wouldn’t commit to debate details until the Democratic Party chooses its nominee.

“Given the continued political chaos surrounding Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrat Party, general election debate details cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee,” the former president’s campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, said in a statement on Thursday.

“There is a strong sense by many in the Democrat Party,” Cheung said, highlighting former President Barack Obama specifically, “that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still holding out for someone ‘better.’”

The Trump campaign’s announcement comes two days after the former president said he “absolutely” wanted to debate Harris at some point. At the time, he clarified that while he had previously agreed to debate then-presumed nominee President Joe Biden, he hadn’t agreed to anything debatewise with Harris.

Earlier on Thursday, Harris accused Trump of “backpedaling” on the debate.

“I have agreed to the previously agreed upon Sept. 10 debate. He agreed to that previously. Now here he is backpedaling, and I’m ready,” Harris told reporters.

Shortly after the news broke Trump was backing out of the debate, Harris responded on X. “What happened to ‘any time, any place?’” she asked in a post quoting the news.

“How many delegates do you officially have? Zero. How many people voted for you in the 2024 primary? Zero,” Cheung responded.

Harris was part of the ticket with Biden that voters overwhelmingly chose in the primary elections this year.

Jean-Pierre and Fox News reporter spar on Democrats being ‘sensitive’ about Harris border record

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre sparred with a Fox News reporter who questioned Vice President Kamala Harris’s role in the border crisis.

On Thursday, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy pressed Jean-Pierre about the vice president’s involvement at the border. The press secretary proceeded to deflect criticism from Harris while slamming conservatives for blocking immigration reform and claiming that Harris’s so-called border czar position never existed.

“Democrats on Capitol Hill are being handed this card with talking points about the vice president and the border,” Doocy told Jean-Pierre as he held up a flier. He told the press secretary that the first talking point said, “Vice President Harris was never appointed Border Czar. There’s never been such a position, it doesn’t exist.”

The White House press secretary denied knowledge about the talking points while agreeing that the position never existed.

“We are going to debunk the false characterization of the vice president. She was not a border czar. Independent fact-checkers have said the same thing, that that did not exist, and that that is not true,” Jean-Pierre told Doocy.

The exchange between the two came as some media outlets have changed messaging around Harris’s role at the border. While the vice president was commonly called the “border czar” by media networks for her role in overseeing U.S. relations with Central America in 2021, the label is being challenged by Democratic allies.

When the Fox News reporter asked the White House spokeswoman, “Why are Democrats so sensitive about the vice president and the border?” the tension between the two increased. Jean-Pierre shifted blame to the GOP and former President Donald Trump for thwarting a border deal in February.

“Why are Republicans so sensitive about actually not owning up to them getting in the way of a border deal? Why?” she pushed back. “Why won’t they own up to that? Why won’t they own up to the last president who told them not to move forward?”

“Do you think that the border would be less of a talking point now if there was less migration to the border, say if somebody had addressed root causes of migration sooner?” the Fox News reporter responded.

Visibly irritated, Jean-Pierre retorted, “Wait, hold on a second — did you not hear the beginning of my … I know there were a lot of talkers.”

“I talked about what we’re seeing at the border. It’s down by 55%,” the White House press secretary said. “Not because of Republicans and Congress and what they did but because of what this president and the vice president and what they did.”

Her defense of the Biden administration’s border policy comes as the GOP ramps up its attack on the Harris. This week, the House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning Harris for her role on the border. Six Democrats joined all Republicans in backing the bill.

Biden family emotional over Joe’s prime-time address

President Joe Biden was surrounded by emotional family members as the grandfather of seven explained to the country why he dropped his reflection bid.

Photos from the Oval Office show Biden’s youngest daughter, Ashley, tearing up while first lady Jill Biden kept a tight watch on the 81-year-old. The president’s son, Hunter Biden, was also there to support his father. Ashley held the first lady’s hand as the speech drew to a close, keeping her eyes shut as her father spoke to the nation.

With the pressure of the reelection campaign off their shoulders, the Biden family presented a united, albeit emotional, front to the country on Wednesday. Lauded by Democrats and mocked by Republicans, Biden’s speech drew swift reactions from both sides of the aisle. However, his inner circle was quick to express gratitude to Biden loyalists.

Immediately after the speech, Jill Biden released a letter publicly thanking supporters for standing with the Biden family.

“To those who never wavered, to those who refused to doubt,” the first lady said, “my heart is full of gratitude.”

As the Biden campaign hands the reins to Vice President Kamala Harris, endorsing her to take his spot at the top of the Democratic ticket, his wife echoed the president’s support.

“Thank you for the trust you put in Joe—now it’s time to put that trust in Kamala,” Jill Biden wrote in a post to X on Wednesday evening.

The president has leaned on the first lady more than ever in recent weeks as she picked up campaign appearances for her husband and shut down concerns about his mental acuity.

Democrats celebrate Biden for being ‘big as the moment’ while Trump trolls ‘great embarrassment’

Reactions from both sides of the aisle rolled in after President Joe Biden gave a highly anticipated speech from the Oval Office, with Democrats praising the historic moment and Republicans mocking it.

Biden’s public address to the nation came as his first since he suspended his reelection campaign on Sunday and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him. In a roughly 10-minute speech, the 81-year-old focused on why he dropped his reelection bid, explaining that “there’s a time and a place for new voices, for fresher voices, and, yes, for younger voices, and that time is now.”

The president’s party immediately lauded Biden for being, in top Democratic strategist David Axelrod’s words, “as big as the moment.” In a post to X, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) added, “Tonight, we saw President Joe Biden – one of America’s most consequential presidents – show that he is not only on the right side of history, but on the right side of the future.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) agreed as he praised the president for “run[ning] a great race and le[aving] our country a better place.” In the upper chamber, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was also quick to voice his gratitude for Biden’s leadership. “Thank you, President Biden,” he wrote.

However, led by former President Donald Trump, Republicans had an opposite take on the speech.

Following a rally he held in North Carolina, Trump watched Biden’s address on his plane. The Republican presidential nominee offered a scathing assessment of the speech.

“Crooked Joe Biden’s Oval Office speech was barely understandable, and sooo bad!” Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social.

The former president also said Biden and Harris are a “great embarrassment” to the country and “there has never been a time like this.”

Biden stumbled a time or two in his address, something of which Fox News host Sean Hannity took note. Hannity told his audience that Biden’s “mumbling bumbling stumbling fumbling to the American people” showed his “cognitive decline.” However, Biden fared relatively well in his live remarks as he expressed gratefulness that he led a country where “a kid with a stutter” could sit behind “the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.”

Mark Robinson blasts Democrats for DC anti-Israel protest ahead of Trump rally

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson slammed Democrats after anti-Israel demonstrations erupted in Washington, D.C., and as former President Donald Trump holds a rally in his state on Wednesday.

Thousands of pro-Palestinians gathered in the nation’s capital on Wednesday to protest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s address to Congress. Videos shared on social media showed demonstrators assaulting police near Union Station and reportedly threatening to kill pro-Israel counterprotesters.

Robinson, the Republican candidate for governor in North Carolina, took to social media to criticize protesters for pulling down and burning the American flag and lifting a Palestinian flag in its place. He took it a step further by blaming Vice President Kamala Harris and Democratic lawmakers for not attending the prime minister’s address.

“These are the radical activists that @kamalaharris & supporters are placating by boycotting the Israeli prime minister’s speech to Congress,” the Republican North Carolinian said in a post to X. His words come as Trump holds a rally in his battleground state.

“Josh Stein, Kamala Harris and the Democrats side with Hamas terrorists. The rest of us stand with Israel,” Robinson continued. While Harris did not attend Netanyahu‘s address to Congress on Wednesday, the White House said her support for Israel remains “unwavering.”

Robinson is North Carolina’s first black lieutenant governor, and he is challenging Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein in a bid to succeed Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC). While Stein has largely steered clear of a concrete position on the Israel-Gaza conflict, some critics say that the Harvard graduate has failed to sufficiently condemn antisemitic protests on college campuses. If elected, Stein would be North Carolina’s first Jewish governor.

Robinson is a controversial figure for past comments and actions, such as Facebook posts he made in 2017 and 2017 that critics say downplayed the Holocaust.

“I am so sick of seeing and hearing people STILL talk about Nazis and Hitler and how evil and manipulative they were. NEWS FLASH PEOPLE, THE NAZIS (National Socialist) ARE GONE! We did away with them,” Robison wrote in 2017.

Robison has since backtracked his remarks, saying in October, “There have been some Facebook posts that were poorly worded on my part, did not convey my real sentiments, and I have addressed those issues and moved on from those issues.”

Elon Musk distances himself from Trump and says he’s not donating $45 million a month to campaign

Tech mogul Elon Musk denied reports that he’s giving millions of dollars a month to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign.

Just a week ago, the Wall Street Journal reported that Musk is committing $45 million a month to the former president. During an interview with psychologist and lifestyle author Jordan Peterson on Tuesday, Musk called the newspaper’s report false.

“What’s been reported in the media is simply not true,” Musk said on The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast from the Daily Wire. The Tesla founder clarified that he’s not necessarily actively funding the Trump campaign, saying, “I am not donating $45 million dollars a month to Trump.”

Musk said he did indeed create the America PAC in July but says it’s not meant to be “a hyperpartisan PAC” that donates big dollars to conservatives.

“The intent is to promote the principles that made America great in the first place,” he told Peterson during an interview that lasted nearly 2 1/2 hours, pushing back on claims he is funneling funds to the “Make America Great Again” campaign.

Historically, the billionaire has supported the Democratic Party, backing Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama, as well as President Joe Biden’s bid for election in 2020.

However, the Space X founder has edged to further right over the past several years, criticizing progressives for “woke” initiatives before endorsing Trump in July. During the interview with Peterson on Tuesday, Musk continued to question “the woke mind virus” he says “essentially tricked” him into gender-transitioning his son.

Still, Musk expressed doubt over Trump’s faithful MAGA mantra. “I wouldn’t say that I’m, for example, MAGA,” he told Peterson. “I think America is great. I’m more MAG — Make America Greater.”
