David Axelrod says 2024 race is still ‘absolutely’ Trump’s to lose

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod cautioned Democrats not to overly celebrate Vice President Kamala Harris’s newfound support, as he predicted the election is currently still former President Donald Trump’s to lose.

Harris has seen an uptick in support since becoming the presumptive presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, with recent polling data indicating she has a slight lead over Trump. However, Axelrod has contended that it is “still a really tight race” and that both sides will have to put up “a hard fight” to claim victory.

“It’s absolutely Trump’s race to lose right now,” Axelrod said on CNN Newsroom. “He is ahead. And he is ahead in most of the battleground states. They’re close; they can be won by either candidate.”

Axelrod argued that Harris’s spike in support stems from “irrational exuberance,” and he stated that the vice president has “a lot of momentum” since entering the 2024 race. He suggested that Democrats were initially feeling despair over the election with President Joe Biden as their nominee.

“Now people feel like there’s a chance,” Axelrod said.

The Democratic adviser’s caution that Trump could still emerge as the victor comes after some have suggested that Harris’s jump in support is merely a “honeymoon” period, which could wear off after a time. Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH), for example, predicted it will last about 30 days.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison announced Friday that Harris has received the delegates needed to become the new 2024 Democratic presidential nominee. She is expected to accept the nomination during the party’s convention in Chicago later this month.

While Biden dropped out of the 2024 race after his first debate with Trump, the former president has questioned if he should debate Harris at all ahead of the election, as “everybody knows her, everybody knows me.” Despite this, he stated on Friday evening that he would meet Harris in Pennsylvania next month for a debate hosted by Fox News.

Harris has rejected the idea of debating Trump on Fox, and is instead sticking with a previous plan to have ABC News host the debate. Harris for President communications director Michael Tyler has contended that Trump “needs to stop playing games and show up to the debate he already committed to on Sept 10.”

Chris Murphy says 2024 election shows ‘a contrast’ between Harris and Trump

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) argued the 2024 presidential election, which is expected to be between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, will showcase “a contrast” to voters.

Murphy was asked about how Harris’s campaign has changed her position on previously-held views, such as no longer wanting to ban fracking and wanting additional funding for border security. The Connecticut senator contended that the vice president “has always been for border security” and that this is part of the contrast voters can expect at the polls come November.

“Today, border crossings are lower at the southwest border than they were at the end of the Trump presidency,” Murphy said on Fox News Sunday, which was being guest-anchored by Jacqui Heinrich. “There is a contrast between Democrats, Kamala Harris who’s serious about border security, and Republicans, who are not.”

Murphy also said that democracy is about the majority of residents voting for a policy, and predicted that Harris will campaign on several reforms “to make democracy work better.” He argued this would compare well against Trump at the election, saying that the Republican nominee has “promised on day one to become a dictator.”

The senator’s claim on Trump relates to comments the former president made last year, during which he said he would not be a dictator “except for day one.” Trump also vowed to secure the border and increase oil drilling during his interview should he become president again.

In the wake of the interview, Trump waived off his dictator comment, claiming that it was made “in jest.”

Since President Joe Biden bowed out of his 2024 reelection bid, many high-profile Democrats have endorsed Harris as his replacement for the candidacy, such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Biden himself. Murphy stated last month that these endorsements were not pre-organized and that none of them were aware of Biden dropping out until he announced it.

Recent polling data found that Harris and Trump are statistically tied nationally and across the collective battleground states, with Harris having a 1-point edge nationally. Trump previously enjoyed a 5-point national head-to-head lead when the data was conducted with Biden before he dropped out.

Pelosi claims Biden’s face should be added to Mount Rushmore

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) argued in a new interview that President Joe Biden is a “Mount Rushmore kind of president” and indicated his face should be included as part of the iconic monument.

The historic monument, located in South Dakota, features former U.S. Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. Pelosi argued that Biden has been “such a consequential president” when reflecting on his term.

“But you got Teddy Roosevelt up there, and he’s wonderful,” Pelosi said. “I don’t say take him down, but you can add Biden.”

Pelosi’s suggestion has been widely rebuked online, with former Republican Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee calling it “laughably ridiculous.” He also questioned if the former House speaker was sober during her interview, as there had to have been “something to explain” her suggestion.

During her interview, Pelosi downplayed being part of a movement to oust Biden as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee, as many began questioning his ability to win the election after his poor performance at the debate in June. Pelosi said she “did not call” anyone to pressure Biden out of the race, and that she was confident Biden would make “the proper choice.”

Country star Tyler Hubbard says ‘intentional’ fatherhood is worth prioritizing

Country music star Tyler Hubbard said the importance of fatherhood is just as important to his life as his career in music.

The musician reflected on how he and his former bandmate, Brian Kelley, opted to go solo several years ago, and has since released almost two dozen songs to hit #1 on country radio. In the midst of this, he has balanced his career life with his family life, which he called “a constant balancing act.”

“And right now, I’m in a beautiful season of life with a lot of great things going on,” Hubbard said on Fox News’s One Nation with Brian Kilmeade. “But that requires a lot of being intentional and a lot of balancing between my wife, my three kids, my career, my songwriting. Fortunately, I have a great team to help me kind of juggle it all.”

Hubbard concluded that while he’s had to take some “late-night flights” to make it to his children’s graduation ceremonies, it is worth being able to make it to these events. He added that he prioritizes his family life just as much as his professional one.

Polling data ahead of the 2024 election indicates most supporters of former President Donald Trump see the importance of family. About 59% of Trump supporters surveyed said that society is better off when family and marriage are prioritized, compared to 19% of President Joe Biden supporters in the survey.

Hubbard’s first song to hit #1 on country radio was “5 Foot 9,” which is about his wife and has almost 24 million views on YouTube since it was uploaded in 2022. He joked that his wife is actually 5’10, but that “5’10” did not flow as well musically as “5 Foot 9.”

Dan Bongino shocked over new phone footage capturing Trump’s would-be assassin

Former Secret Service agent and talk show host Dan Bongino questioned how security missed former President Donald Trump’s would-be assassin, as newly unearthed footage captured on a cellphone was able to spot the shooter on the roof.

The would-be assassin, who has been identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, was visible in cellphone video moving across the roof across from Trump for a few seconds, then reappearing just a few seconds later. Bongino, who previously served in the Secret Service for 12 years, referenced how acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe had claimed the locals stated they were working through “an issue” with the area where Crooks was, or “the three o’clock.”

“If you’re looking at the three o’clock, how the hell do you miss this?!” Bongino said on his show. “This is a cell phone camera! Geen went to school for film stuff. This is not a zoom, high, telephoto, freaking lens used to film a Marvel movie! It’s a cellphone! You can see the guy clear as day! How did they miss this?!”

Bongino then asked those who are still defending the Secret Service’s handling of securing Trump, “What is left to defend?” He argued that with so many failures happening with this event, the defenders are asking people “to believe the implausible.”

Rowe claimed Tuesday that neither the Secret Service countersniper teams nor members of Trump‘s security detail had “any knowledge” that there was a shooter with a gun on the roof. He also called the assassination attempt of Trump a “failure on multiple levels”

Rowe took over as acting director after Kimberly Cheatle resigned from the position following her testimony before the House Oversight Committee last month. Bongino argued Cheatle needed to resign immediately for her “apocalyptic security failure” on security at Trump’s event.

Social media condemns ‘glorified male violence against women’ in Olympic boxing match

The 2024 Paris Olympics have received major pushback online after allowing a boxing match with an athlete believed by many to be a biological male to commence, which ended less than a minute after the biological female opponent forfeited the fight.

The fight between Imane Khelif of Algeria and Angela Carini of Italy ended after only a couple of punches were thrown, one of which hit Carini in the face. As the match ended, Carini could be seen on her knees visibly upset over forfeiting the match.

“Call me crazy, but It’s almost as if women don’t want to be punched in the face by a male as the world watches and applauds,” women’s sports activist and Outkick host Riley Gaines wrote on X. “This is glorified male violence against women.”

Author J.K. Rowling, a vocal critic of transgender women, spoke very harshly against the International Olympic Committee in the wake of the match, writing that Carini “just had everything she’s worked and trained for snatched away” because the IOC “allowed a male to get in the ring with her.”

“You’re a disgrace, your ‘safeguarding’ is a joke and #Paris24 will be forever tarnished by the brutal injustice done to Carini,” the Harry Potter author wrote.

On Tuesday, the IOC defended its policy to allow transgender athletes to compete in the Games, arguing it is following rules previously used by the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. IOC spokesman Mark Adams contended that Khelif competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has been boxing “for a very, very long time.”

Former Democratic lawmaker Tulsi Gabbard has spoken against the IOC’s decision, arguing that it is “the consequence of the insane trans ideology.” She added that the IOC is “putting actual women in danger” by allowing transgender athletes to compete against them.

In the wake of Carini forfeiting her match, #IStandWithAngelaCarini reached the top trending spot on the social media platform X.

Transgender issues will be a factor in the presidential election, which is expected to be between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party. Harris has been endorsed by the Advocates for Trans Equality organization and has also received the backing of the Human Rights Campaign.

Trump, meanwhile, has stated in 2022 that he would implement a “ban on men participating in women’s sports” should he become president again. The former president has also vowed to end transgender surgeries for minors in a second presidency.

Joe Rogan suggests Harris could win because people are ‘giving into the bulls***’

Podcast host Joe Rogan argued that voters are “giving into the bulls***” to oppose former President Donald Trump in the election, which could lead to Vice President Kamala Harris‘s victory.

Rogan was assessing the current state of the 2024 election with author and fellow podcast host Michael Malice, which saw President Joe Biden bow out of his reelection bid and Trump narrowly survive an assassination attempt in the last month. With Harris as the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, Rogan contended that he could “see her winning” against Trump in a possible matchup.

“I feel like we are in this very bizarre time where people are giving into the bulls*** in a way that I never suspected people would before,” Rogan said on The Joe Rogan Experience. “They just want no Trump, no matter what, and they’re willing to gaslight themselves, and by the way, I think Hillary could win.”

Regarding the assassination attempt on Trump, Rogan said he thought the event would have guaranteed Trump’s victory in the election, a prediction sports journalist Stephen A. Smith had also made. However, he noted how the press has “memory-holed” the historic attempt on Trump’s life very quickly.

Malice agreed, noting how he initially thought the assassination attempt would have resulted in “corporate journalists” spending several years writing about the dangers of hate speech translating into violence. However, the break on attacks against Trump only lasted about “a week” before they resumed.

Earlier this year, Rogan indicated that he would vote for independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. should he make it onto the ballot. Kennedy met with Trump two days after the assassination attempt to discuss “national unity,” with the two also reportedly discussing a possible administration role for Kennedy in a hypothetical second Trump presidency.

Polling data between Trump and Harris has shown the former president holds a razor-thin lead by 1%, with the poll’s margin of error at plus or minus 3.3 percentage points. Noticeably, Harris has received a boost in her favorability polling since Biden dropped his reelection bid, jumping from 35% to 43%.

Alma Powell, civic leader and wife of late Secretary of State Colin Powell, dies at 86

Civic leader Alma Powell has died at the age of 86, about three years after her husband’s death in 2021.

Her death was confirmed by Peggy Cifrino, a spokeswoman for the family. Powell’s three children, Michael Powell, Linda Powell, and Annemarie Powell, described their mother as “the grounding force of our family.”

“During childhoods marked by constant moving to new homes, we always felt secure, because home was wherever she stood,” a statement from Alma Powell’s children read. “She was an exemplary role model for us and for the world. She served our country, alongside our father, with intelligence and grace. We will miss her terribly but take comfort in the fact that she had a life so well-lived and is reunited with our father.”

In 1962, Alma Powell married former Secretary of State Colin Powell during former President George W. Bush’s presidency. The couple spent almost 60 years together. When Colin Powell went to serve in the Vietnam War, Alma Powell said her time alone was “the defining experience of my life.”

During what many believe to be his final interview, conducted with journalist Bob Woodward in July 2021, Colin Powell called his wife the greatest person he had ever known.

“She was always there for me, and she’d tell me, ‘That’s not a good idea,’” said Colin Powell. “She was usually right.”

Alma Powell is listed as chairwoman emeritus of America’s Promise Alliance, a nonprofit organization founded by her husband in 1997. She also served on the board of trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Alma Powell is survived by her three children, a niece, two nephews, and “countless beloved extended family members and friends,” Cifrino said in a statement.

Team USA’s Dawn Staley suggests regret over Caitlin Clark being left off Olympics roster

South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley appeared to suggest Team USA’s team selection for the 2024 Olympics could have gone a bit differently regarding Indiana Fever sensation Caitlin Clark if they “had to do it all over again.”

Staley, a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team selection committee, explained that Clark had not been playing to the extremely strong standards she recently has been when player selection was being conducted, and she was passed up as a result. Since joining the Fever, Clark has brought newfound attention and interest in the Women’s National Basketball Association with statistical feats and by drawing record-setting attendance for her games.

“If we had to do it all over again, the way that she’s playing, she would be in really high consideration of making the team because she is playing head and shoulders above a lot of people,” Staley said on NBC. “Shooting the ball extremely well, I mean, she is an elite passer, she’s just got a great basketball IQ, and she’s a little more seasoned in the pro-game in a couple months than she was two months ago.”

The WNBA achieved a new record in viewership last month with the game between the Fever and the Atlantic Dream, with 17,575 fans in attendance. Clark’s team went on to win by a score of 91-79, marking their seventh win of the year.

Team USA’s women’s basketball team plays its first game on Monday against Japan; they will then face Belgium on Thursday.

Walz contends his Democratic history would be an asset as VP candidate

Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) said he would not hide from his legislative history as a Democratic governor should he become Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 running mate.

Walz, who is also the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, was asked about former President Donald Trump attempting to portray Harris as a far-left candidate, and if his record as governor, including legalizing recreational marijuana and expanding LGBT rights, could either support or disprove Trump’s arguments. The Minnesota governor brushed off these concerns, arguing that his state is “a top five business state” and is within the top three happiest states in the country.

“Look, they‘re going to label whatever they‘re going to label,” Walz said on CNN. “The fact of the matter is where you see the policies that Vice President Harris was a part of making, Democratic governors across the country executed those policies, and quality of life is higher, the economies are better. All of those things, educational attainment is better. So yeah, my kids are going to eat here, and you‘re going to have a chance to go to college, and you‘re going to have an opportunity to live where we‘re working on reducing carbon emissions.”

WHO IS TIM WALZ? MEET ONE OF THE SIX TOP NAMES ON HARRIS’S VP SHORT LIST

When asked if he had received vetting materials from the Harris campaign, he said he would not speak “on anything personal,” only saying that being part of the consideration for vice president is “an honor.”

Walz was also asked why Harris is performing better in polls against Trump compared to President Joe Biden, with the governor contending that there is “a new burst of energy” among voters. He contended that Minnesota, a state Republicans have not won in a presidential election since then-President Richard Nixon was reelected in 1972, is always a competitive state, but he believes that Harris is “certainly going to win.”

Since Biden bowed out of the 2024 race, Harris’s campaign has seen a massive spike in fundraising, getting $200 million within the last week. She is not yet the Democratic nominee for president, but she will likely earn that honor at next month’s Democratic National Convention.

Some have speculated that the boost in energy for the Harris campaign will only be temporary, as both commentator Piers Morgan and Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) believe it is just a “honeymoon” period that will fade. Morgan predicted this period will only last “about a week,” while Sununu predicted it will last for about a month.
