Democrats have ‘no one’ to lead opposition to Trump going into 2025: Byron York

The Washington Examiner’s Byron York argued the Democratic Party has a serious dilemma facing it going into 2025, specifically how it does not have anyone of the same caliber as Donald Trump to oppose the incoming president’s agenda.

Following Trump’s victory against Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, the Democratic Party has yet to find a new person to emerge as the new voice and face of its movement. York, the chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, assessed that this situation stems from how Democrats lost the White House and the Senate last month while also failing to retake the House of Representatives.

‘UNCOMMITTED’ VOTERS BLAME HARRIS ‘CHOOSING PATH OF LIZ CHENEY’ FOR THEIR TURN TO TRUMP

“And even at this moment, of course, President Biden seems to be more out of it than he was even in the past, so they have no one to lead,” York argued on Fox News’s America Reports. “The only bright spot they’ve had in the last week or two has been that Republicans in the House have so much trouble getting their act together, and they hope — the Democrats hope that that will help them trip up the Republican Party in the coming year. But right now, there’s one leader, and that’s the president-elect, Donald Trump, and Democrats don’t have anybody to match his stature.”

York also agreed with the assessment of some Democrats that the most successful candidates among Democrats over the past cycle were those who ran against the party’s brand. He added that the party needs to have a proper debate over where the party went wrong in 2024, in which some could argue the party pushed its policies too far while others could argue the massive loss was due to a messaging problem.

York’s assessment comes after billionaire Bill Ackman, who endorsed Trump shortly after the president-elect’s first assassination attempt, argued the best-case scenario for the Democratic Party in the 2024 election cycle would be “a massive loss,” as this would force the party and its leadership to undergo a “reboot.”

Ahead of the Democratic National Committee’s election for its new chair, 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson has launched her bid for the role, though York argued she would ultimately not win this election. Among the competitors she faces for DNC chair is Ben Wikler, the party chairman for Wisconsin, with York calling his bid “smart,” as Democrats could have won the 2024 election if they had won Wisconsin in the Electoral College.

“So you’re going to have a contest for the Feb. 1 election for the DNC chair,” York stated. “You’re going to have a contest among people who actually had some background in the party and people who have actually held positions in the party.”

Amid the Democratic Party’s struggle to find a new face going forward, Democratic strategist Tad Devine assessed that his party has “no leadership now at the highest level.” Another person has argued that Democrats are “absolutely committed to their own ideas, even when they’re failing.”

Kevin O’Leary argues Harris must ‘distance herself’ from Biden to win election

Shark Tank star and international businessman Kevin O’Leary advised Vice President Kamala Harris on several steps she needs to take to win the 2024 election, including ditching President Joe Biden.

O’Leary wondered if Harris could run a campaign that is more centrist, which could win over voters who do not align with a specific party. He cautioned that if Harris’s strategy is simply to “bash big pharma” and “big business,” it would make her appear as “a leftist,” as she has throughout her vice presidency and make a loss more likely.

“So my prediction is, and we’ll know more next week after the convention, she has to get rid of Biden,” O’Leary said on Fox News’s The Story with Martha MacCallum. “I understand the heritage thing and everything, but she’s got to distance herself from Bidenomics, that is radioactive waste for voters! So, if she doesn’t bring some daylight in and go to the center, she’ll just lose, and I’m sure she knows that. That’s free fodder for Trump. And I’m not trying to diss Biden or be partisan, but that’s a losing strategy.”

O’Leary also stressed the need for Harris to establish her policies and how she plans to address the topics that voters face, including taxes, border security, and energy. He also argued that Harris must demonstrate she can discuss her policies without a teleprompter, as being able to conduct interviews and defend her policies live is very important.

“Has she learned anything about how to deal with it in a one-on-one basis?” O’Leary said. “That’s going to be where the tire hits the road.”

Since taking Biden’s place as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Harris has yet to conduct an interview with the press. X owner Elon Musk has offered to do a live discussion with Harris on X, similar to the one he did with former President Donald Trump on Monday night.

Sports journalist Stephen A. Smith has also offered to interview both Harris and Trump.

Harris’s record is ‘leaving working families behind’: Byron Donalds

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) dismissed decreasing inflation potentially helping Vice President Kamala Harris’s chances in the 2024 election, arguing she was involved with inflation rising to begin with.

Annual inflation fell to 2.9% in July, making it the lowest inflation has been since March 2021. Donalds, however, did not think this could help Harris in the presidential election, stating that she was the tiebreaking vote on both the American Rescue Plan in 2021 and the Inflation Reduction Act in the U.S. Senate.

“All that did was create massive government spending, which created massive inflation on the backs of the American people,” Donalds said on CNN. “Overall, prices are up well over 20%, especially when you start getting into food and other areas like that. So Kamala Harris’s record has been one of leaving working families behind. When Donald Trump was president, we didn‘t have a massive inflation. Our economy was growing massively at the same time working families were getting ahead, middle-income families getting ahead, everybody was thriving.”

Donalds contended that Harris was “sitting there shotgun” alongside President Joe Biden in their oversight of the United States economy for years now. As such, he claimed the candidate who can bring about economic change is “without question” former President Donald Trump.

When asked if Trump’s age could be a detriment to winning support from voters, Donalds argued that Harris is “nowhere to be seen” from the public. This prompted a disagreement between him and the CNN interviewer, who asked he was trying to indicate that her age could become an issue when she decides to lay out her policies to the press.

“No, it’s not about her age; it’s about her ability and her competency to lead our country going forward,” Donalds said. “What‘s going to be her economic agenda? Is that going to be different from Joe Biden? I don‘t think so because Susan Rice is on the record now saying that Kamala Harris was integral in the Joe Biden Kamala Harris agenda.”

A recent poll conducted by the Financial Times and the University of Michigan showed voters trust Harris over Trump by 1 percentage point to handle the economy. Trump was previously leading Biden by 6 percentage points on this issue,

The poll’s results are within its margin of error at plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with the data surveying 1,001 registered voters from Aug. 1-5.

Algerian Olympic medalist files online harassment complaint over gender scrutiny

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has filed a legal complaint in France in relation to “aggravated cyber-harassment,” referencing social media users questioning the boxer’s gender in the Olympic Games.

Khelif’s complaint was filed on Friday, the same day the boxer won gold in the women’s boxing 145-pound category at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Lawyer Nabil Boudi stated that the Algerian boxer faced a “misogynist, racist and sexist campaign” during the Paris Games, citing some social media users claiming Khelif was transgender

“The unfair harassment suffered by the boxing champion will remain the biggest stain of these Olympic Games,” Boudi stated.

The Algerian boxer has a reported diagnosis of differences in sexual development, or DSD, which is an umbrella medical term for a variety of conditions in which a person can have either XY or XX chromosomes but not the corresponding physical sex characteristics.

The controversy generated over Khelif’s competition in the Olympics stemmed from the International Olympic Committee defending the boxer’s inclusion in the Games. This controversy continued when Khelif’s match against Italian boxer Angela Carini ended in 46 seconds, with Carini visibly upset after forfeiting the match.

“Call me crazy, but It’s almost as if women don’t want to be punched in the face by a male as the world watches and applauds,” women’s sports activist and Outkick host Riley Gaines wrote on X. “This is glorified male violence against women.”

Gaines was one of many to come to the defense of Carini after she complained that Khelif’s inclusion was unfair. The Italian boxer later backtracked and apologized.

Khelif returned home in Algeria on Monday, alongside fellow Algerian Olympic medalists, including gymnast Kaylia Nemour and runner Djamel Sedjati. The North African nation’s minister of youth and sports, Abderrahmane Hammad, was among those who were there to greet them.

“It’s a dream I had for eight years,” Khelif said of her experience in the Games. “We did our best to represent Algeria.”

Winsome Sears deeply ‘upset’ over Walz combat claim: ‘You never were in war’

Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R-VA) criticized Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) for his past comments on his National Guard service, arguing Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 running mate has “never” faced combat in war.

A 2018 clip of Walz shared by the Harris campaign showed the governor speaking against gun violence and stating that “weapons of war, that I carried in war” only belong in war zones, a statement some have taken to imply that he served in combat. However, Walz himself has never served in a combat zone, with Sears, a Marine veteran, stating many families of veterans who died in combat are likely joining her in being very “upset” and “offended” over Walz’s comment.

“So forget about me. These families and those service members who were in actual combat, who suffered so much, they’re suffering from PTSD. We have a suicide crisis among our veterans who served in combat,” Sears said on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime, guest-hosted by Outnumbered co-host Kayleigh McEnany. “And for this man, who never served a day in combat, to talk about weapons that he carried in war? When did that ever happen, sir? And to take on a rank you never earned? Why are you doing that? Oh, what a tangled web they weave when they first practice to deceive.”

Sears added she heard Walz had served honorably “until he got into the war part,” referring to how he left the National Guard before pursuing a congressional run. Former Minnesota National Guard Command Sgt. Maj. Doug Julin, Walz’s superior, has stated that Walz used “a backdoor process” to exit the military, which he used shortly before deployment.

“You never were in war. Don’t go there,” Sears said regarding Walz.

Sears was also asked how the Republican Party could win the state of Virginia in the 2024 election, which has not been won by the party since 2004. The lieutenant governor argued that the focus should be on “policy, policy, policy” and that Harris needs to be asked how she would make the United States energy independent and what her plans are to address inflation.

In June, Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) argued the strategy to win Virginia in the Election College is by losing northern Virginia “less badly.” He contended that this strategy helped him in the gubernatorial election in 2021, when he achieved an upset victory against former Gov. Terry McAuliffe.

Earlier this month, Youngkin issued an executive order to codify Virginia’s “election security procedures,” stressing the need to “protect legal voters and accurate counts” ahead of the November election. Former President Donald Trump praised the Virginia governor’s steps to secure the election, as he has routinely argued he did not legitimately lose the 2020 election.

Due to Virginia governors being limited to just one term, Youngkin will not be able to seek reelection in 2025. A poll released in April found that Sears is the favorite to succeed Youngkin, getting a 28-percentage-point lead over Attorney General Jason Miyares (R-VA).

Harris strategy of avoiding the press is ‘working’: Byron York

The Washington Examiner’s Byron York stated that Vice President Kamala Harris’s strategy to win the 2024 election seems to be not saying anything to the press, which for the moment “seems to be working” in turning her party’s polling numbers around.

Since stepping in for President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee, Harris has yet to conduct any interviews with the press about her ambitions for the White House. Despite this, she received “glowing” coverage from Time magazine’s cover story, with York, the Washington Examiner’s chief political correspondent, noting how the magazine specifically stated that Harris refused to do an interview.

“Her polls are going up. I mean, Joe Biden was trailing former President Trump, nationally and in the swing states, and Harris has reversed that, for the moment at least,” York said on Fox News’s America Reports on Monday. “Polls going up, celebratory news coverage, all by not outlying any policy positions.”

York predicted that if Harris starts to slip in the polls in the weeks to come, then she could begin doing interviews with the press.

York added that he “had to laugh” at Harris’s about-face on her focus on the border, arguing that the vice president is “responsible” for the mass influx in illegal immigration in the country. He also doubted that Harris could effectively turn her reputation around on illegal immigration, as this topic is important to voters and she is “so indelibly associated” with the Biden administration’s record on it.

Current polling data indicates that Harris has a lead over former President Donald Trump, including in the swing states Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. The conduction of this data began the same day Harris announced Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) as her running mate, which potentially pushed her ahead in these states due to Walz being a Midwestern governor.

While Harris has yet to conduct an interview as the Democratic Party’s 2024 candidate, Trump is set to do a live interview with X owner Elon Musk, who will host the interview on his platform. Trump made a return to X on Monday after almost a yearlong absence from the platform.

McCarthy advises Trump to ‘stop questioning’ legitimacy of Harris’s audience thumbnail

McCarthy advises Trump to ‘stop questioning’ legitimacy of Harris’s audience

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy warned former President Donald Trump regarding his social media posts about Vice President Kamala Harris not receiving large crowds, saying he should instead focus his criticism on her backtracking on numerous policies.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that Harris had been using artificial intelligence to make it appear that a large crowd was waiting for her plane to land, writing that “she had NOBODY waiting” and that using AI should count as election interference. McCarthy said this was not an effective way to campaign against Harris, suggesting he should criticize her history as a politician.

“Stop questioning the size of her crowds, and start questioning her position when it comes to what she did as attorney general on crime,” McCarthy said on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. “Question what did she do when she was supposed to take care of the border as a czar. Question that they brought inflation, and she was the tiebreaking vote when it came to inflation, when it came to IRS agents.”

McCarthy added that Harris is a “perfect” candidate for Trump to run against, arguing she has “the biggest flip-flop” on policies, such as changing her opposition to fracking and her desire to secure the border.

“So don’t sit back. Get out there and start making the case and use her own words to do it to her,” McCarthy said.

The Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney also criticized Trump for his claim against Harris, arguing it was “a gift” to Harris and her 2024 running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), and a “mistake” by the Republican presidential candidate.

Pelosi says Biden’s letter insisting he was staying in race ‘didn’t sound like Joe to me’ thumbnail

Pelosi says Biden’s letter insisting he was staying in race ‘didn’t sound like Joe to me’

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) argued President Joe Biden’s pre-withdrawal letter reiterating his intention to stay in the 2024 presidential race “didn’t sound like” him.

Pelosi was asked about the letter Biden sent to congressional Democrats on July 8, in which the president maintained he would remain in the 2024 race and run against former President Donald Trump in November. Less than two weeks later, on July 21, Biden announced he was dropping his reelection bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place.

“I didn’t accept the letter as anything but a letter,” Pelosi told The Ezra Klein Show. “I mean, there are some people who are unhappy with the letter. Let me say it differently: some said that some people were unhappy with the letter. I’ll put it in somebody else’s mouth because it was a… I don’t even, it didn’t sound like Joe Biden to me. It really didn’t.”

Pelosi appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on July 10 to say that it was up to Biden “to decide if he is going to run,” stressing the need for him to make it as “time is running short.” When reflecting on her comments this weekend, Pelosi explained she wanted people to stop questioning Biden’s ability to run because he was in the middle of hosting the NATO Summit, and she encouraged his doubters to stop discussing his electability until after the summit ended.

“And they’re doing great things, and he’s the center of it all,” Pelosi said. “Save your comments for later.”

Like Biden and many other Democrats, Pelosi endorsed Harris as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee after the president bowed out. Harris has since selected Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) as her running mate, with both certified as the party’s 2024 presidential ticket this past week.

The first presidential debate, which took place when Biden was still seeking reelection, was held on June 27, with Biden bowing out only a few weeks later. The next debate between Harris and Trump is currently set for Sept. 10 and will be hosted by ABC News.

Cotton argues Harris’s handling of war in Gaza is reason she shouldn’t be president

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) referenced Vice President Kamala Harris’s handling of the conflict in Gaza as why he believes she should not be president, arguing she has put more pressure on Israel than Hamas.

Cotton said the vice president’s handling of the war in Gaza since Oct. 7 is just one “example” of why Harris should not become commander in chief. The Arkansas senator contended that Harris has taken claims from Hamas “at face value” about civilian casualties and that Hamas, not Israel, is ultimately responsible for any civilian casualties that occur.

“Kamala Harris, like Joe Biden, has put more pressure on Israel than they put on Hamas in the very beginning,” Cotton said on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream. “Just look back a couple weeks ago when Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu was in town. She refused to preside over the joint session, her only constitutional duty as president of the Senate; she refused to have a meeting in public with them, and she came out and again blamed Israel for the civilian casualties in Gaza.”

Cotton continued by alleging Harris was “only emboldening Iran and Iranian-backed terrorists, and what do you have? Two days later, Hezbollah, another Iranian-backed terrorist, shooting rockets to Israel, and blew up children playing ball at a playground. Kamala Harris is naive and she’s not prepared to be the commander in chief.”

Harris and Biden have condemned Hamas since the Oct. 7 attack and expressed the need for the hostages still held by Hamas to be returned home to Israel.

Cotton also focused his attention on Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), Harris’s chosen running mate. Cotton suggested that Walz ought to answer questions about his time leaving the National Guard, though he stressed that he respects all U.S. veterans, as he is a veteran himself. He did say, however, that Walz needs to explain his relationship with the “Chinese-Communist Party.”

Cotton also contended that the 2024 election has not changed much with Harris replacing President Joe Biden at the top of the ticket with Republicans knowing from the beginning it would be a tough race. However, he predicted voters will be less likely to support Harris the more they learn about her.

Ahead of the election, Harris vowed to end taxes on tips during a campaign rally in Las Vegas, prompting some to accuse her of stealing a campaign promise made by former President Donald Trump earlier this year. Trump himself has knocked Harris for this, arguing her “honeymoon” period is ending soon.

Pelosi rebukes ‘bankruptcy’ of criticism on Walz after VP selection

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) pushed back against criticism Republicans have made against Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) and his military record, arguing the criticism represents a “bankruptcy of their ideas.”

Walz was selected by Vice President Kamala Harris as her 2024 presidential running mate, pitting them against former President Donald Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) for the election this November. Since becoming Harris’s vice presidential nominee, Walz and his military record, in which he served 24 years in the National Guard, have come under scrutiny, with Vance contending that the Minnesota governor avoided a deployment that was announced shortly after his retirement.

“Well, first of all, it’s a sign of the bankruptcy of their ideas,” Pelosi said in an interview aired on Inside with Jen Psaki. “They don’t have anything to say, so they make up things.”

Pelosi also contended that the Minnesota governor is an “all-American man,” and that he was able to win his original Congressional run in 2006 when others doubted that he could. She added that Walz “really did connect” with voters due to his history as a veteran, and was “part of our big victory” in winning back the House of Representatives for the Democratic Party.

Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura, a former Navy SEAL, has similarly advocated for Walz, calling such criticisms against him “shameful,” “despicable,” and “hogwash.” He also knocked Vance, a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps, for doing “a disservice” for his criticism against Walz, as Marine veterans “show respect,” contending that Vance was not doing so with Harris’s running mate.

Former Minnesota National Guard Command Sgt. Maj. Doug Julin, Walz’s superior in the National Guard, stated that Walz used “a backdoor process” to exit the military before pursuing his Congressional run. Julin also said his commander and himself were informed in the fall of 2004 “that we would be alerted to go to Iraq within the next upcoming year,” and that a meeting with the command team was conducted in February 2005, for which Walz was in attendance. After the meeting, Walz informed Julin of his plans to run for Congress.

Vance cited Julin’s statements in an interview with CNN, arguing that Walz “knew he was going to Iraq” and “decided to quit” so he could instead pursue politics.

Both Vance and Walz expressed their enthusiasm for the vice presidential debate, with the Ohio senator saying, “Of course” he wants to debate Harris’s running mate. Walz, meanwhile, said at a campaign stop he “can’t wait to debate” Vance.
