DeSantis argues ‘all arteries of the Left’ working to patch Democratic Party ‘together again’

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) argued the Democratic Party is using “all the king’s horses and all the king’s men” to put the party back together ahead of the 2024 election after President Joe Biden bowed out of the race.

In the week since Biden dropped his 2024 reelection bid, the president and many Democratic lawmakers have endorsed Harris as the party’s 2024 presidential candidate. DeSantis contended that the presidential debate from last month did irreversible damage to Biden’s reelection campaign, resulting in the media making a major push to have the president drop out.

“And now what you see is all the arteries of the left, the corporate media, Hollywood, academia, they’re using all the king’s horses and all the king’s men to try to put the Democratic Party back together again, and they have to whitewash Harris’s background to be able to make her palpable to the American people,” DeSantis said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.

The Florida governor then questioned if the Democratic Party can succeed in making Harris an appealing candidate for president, arguing that “She owns all the policies of the Biden-Harris administration.”

DeSantis then predicted that people will see “massive gaslighting” regarding Harris over the next 100 days ahead of the election.

“That’s going to continue, and they’re going to try to pull the wool over the eyes of the American people,” DeSantis said.

The Florida governor launched a bid for president last year but dropped out after the Iowa caucuses and endorsed former President Donald Trump. At the Republican National Convention, where Trump officially became the party’s 2024 presidential nominee, DeSantis called for voters to make “the 45th president of the United States the 47th president of the United States,” adding that they should “elect Republicans up and down the ballot.”

During her first fundraiser since joining the 2024 presidential race, Harris described herself and her campaign as “the underdogs” in this race. She added that her campaign has “momentum,” citing the massive spike in fundraising it has received.

Candace Cameron Bure, Jillian Michaels join 2024 Olympics opening ceremony critics

Actress Candace Cameron Bure and fitness personality Jillian Michaels have joined the growing number of critics slamming the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics, with Bure calling it “disgusting.

Bure, a Great American Family actress who is married to a two-time Olympic medalist, described her love for the Olympic games and the fond memories she has of watching them growing up, specifically the 1984 Olympic games in Los Angeles. This year’s opening ceremony for the games, held in Paris, France, generated controversy for featuring drag queens in the place of Jesus Christ and the disciples in reenacting Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”

“So, to watch such an incredible and wonderful event that’s going to take place over the next two weeks, and see the opening ceremonies completely blaspheme and mock the Christian faith with their interpretation of the Last Supper was disgusting, and it made me so sad,” Bure said in an Instagram video. “And someone said, ‘You shouldn’t be sad, you should be mad about it,’ and I’m like, ‘Trust me, it makes me mad,’ but I am more sad, because I’m sad for souls.”

Despite her heavy criticism for the ceremony, she did not call for a boycott of the games, stating that there are many Christian athletes who have dedicated their whole lives for this event who had no involvement with the opening ceremony. As such, she said she would still be watching the games, but that those who want to boycott the event can do as they wish.

Michaels, known for her role in the fitness reality show The Biggest Loser and on The Doctors, took to X on Saturday to criticize the opening ceremony for “mockery of something sacred for over 2 billion Christians.”

“We get outraged when the extreme right bashes us, but then we do this s***,” Michaels, who identifies as a lesbian, wrote on X. “What kind of reaction do you think they will have towards the LGBTQ+ community after this. This is NOT how we break down barriers it’s how you build them.”

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, a Catholic, also shared the footage of the ceremony online, posting Biblical Scriptures warning against mocking God.

The organizers of the Paris Olympics have issued a statement claiming there was “never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group.” Paris 2024 spokeswoman Anne Descamps stated that the ceremony “tried to celebrate community tolerance,” and that they believed they achieved this.

“If people have taken any offense we are, of course, really, really sorry,” Descamps said.

Southwest Airlines introducing assigned seating in major shake-up

Southwest Airlines is ditching its open seating policy in favor of assigned seats, marking a major change in the airline’s history.

The budget carrier has been known for keeping its open seating policy since it started 53 years ago, but it cited customer feedback in its decision to take up assigned seating. The move will also introduce premium seating that provides extra legroom to passengers, according to a Thursday press release.

Southwest Airlines also released its second-quarter results for 2024, in which it detailed plans to receive 20 new Boeing 737-8 planes later this year.

The introduction of assigned seating was hinted at earlier this year by Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan, who said the airline was looking at “new initiatives” to satisfy customers. Multiple airlines, such as Delta, United, and Spirit, charge customers extra to choose their seats prior to boarding.

Thursday’s announcement also revealed the introduction of redeye flights, with these overnight routes beginning in February 2025.

Southwest Airlines experienced a net income of $367 million in its second quarter, an improved performance from the $231 million net loss from its previous quarter but still “short of what we believe we are capable of delivering,” Jordan said. However, he added that Southwest Airlines is “excited about what the future holds.”

In April, Southwest Airlines announced it would close its operations at four airports, citing its “disappointing” performance in the first 2024 quarter. The airline also stated it is expecting to end the year with 2,000 fewer employees than the end of 2023.

Biden doctor insists president is performing all duties as some Republicans question his whereabouts

President Joe Biden’s doctor stated Monday afternoon that the president is still continuing his duties and that the public will be informed of any changes in his recovery process.

The statement from Dr. Kevin O’Conner comes a day after Biden announced via a statement on social media that he will not be continuing his 2024 reelection run. Since then, multiple Republicans have been asking where exactly Biden is, as several days have passed since his last public appearance after catching COVID-19 last week.

“President Biden completed his eighth dose of Paxlovid this morning. His symptoms have improved significantly,” O’Connor’s letter read Monday. “His pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and temperature remain absolutely normal. His oxygen saturation continues to be excellent on room air. His lungs remain clear. The President continues to perform all of his presidential duties.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has repeatedly asked for Biden “to provide the American people with proof of life,” with her most recent request made Monday afternoon while sharing O’Conner’s letter. Boebert has contended that a letter from his doctor is “not proof of life.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) similarly questioned Biden’s whereabouts on social media, asking, “Is he ok?”

Former Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) also weighed into the matter, asking his followers bluntly, “Anyone else think Biden is dead?”

Shortly after announcing he would not continue his 2024 campaign for president, Biden gave his endorsement to Vice President Kamala Harris to take his spot as the Democratic nominee. Multiple other lawmakers have also endorsed Harris, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA).

During a campaign rally for Harris on Monday evening in Delaware, Biden’s voice was heard promising to soon be “out there in the campaign with her, with Kamala.” The audio of his voice, however, did little to quiet questions and confusion.

Tulsi Gabbard warns voters Kamala Harris will endanger peace as president thumbnail

Tulsi Gabbard warns voters Kamala Harris will endanger peace as president

Former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard cautioned voters about what Vice President Kamala Harris would bring to the table in a presidential role, arguing Harris would be “incredibly dangerous” serving this position.

President Joe Biden announced his decision to end his 2024 candidacy Sunday and soon after endorsed Harris to take his place. Since then, numerous other Democratic lawmakers have given their endorsements to Harris, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI).

“I’m going to sound the same warning now that I have been for years, going all the way back to 2020 when both Kamala and I were running for president on the Democratic ticket,” Gabbard said. “She is unfit and unqualified to be our president and commander in chief and would be incredibly dangerous in that position. The prospect of Kamala Harris making decisions about war and peace and where to send my brothers and sisters in uniform into harm’s way is not only terrifying to us, it should be terrifying to every American knowing that we would all pay the price for her dangerous actions and dangerous decisions.”

Gabbard, a veteran herself, also cautioned that her description of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, “the queen of warmongers,” could also apply to Harris. Should Harris become the next president, it would further escalate wars across the globe and bring the world closer to nuclear war, according to Gabbard.

Earlier this year, Gabbard revealed in an interview that she received major pushback within the Democratic Party when she endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), then-presidential candidate, over Clinton in the 2016 Democratic presidential primary. Gabbard also suggested that it is “not a leap of imagination” to think that Clinton, not Biden, is currently leading the United States.

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has largely dismissed the notion of Harris being a threat to Trump, with Republican National Committee Co-Chairwoman Lara Trump stating that the Democratic Party is in “complete disarray.” The Trump campaign has also warned that Harris would be “Joe Biden 2.0” and that “her record is even worse.”

Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who endorsed Trump in January, argued that the Republican Party is running against “a machine” in the 2024 election and cautioned the party not to immediately criticize Harris, as it is not guaranteed that she will be the Democratic Party’s nominee. He also stated that criticizing Harris is almost unneeded, noting her past campaign losses and how she did not make it to the 2020 Iowa caucuses.

“The choice for us is very clear,” Gabbard said in her video. “If we cherish peace and freedom and if we love our country, we must vote against Kamala Harris in this election on November 5 and vote for Donald Trump.”

West Wing creator backtracks pitch for Romney as Democratic nominee

The West Wing creator Andy Sorkin has backed out of his suggestion to have Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s 2024 nominee, instead endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for the spot.

Sorkin, best known for creating the NBC television series focusing on fictional President Josiah Bartlet, made his case for Romney in a guest essay published by the New York Times, contending this would unify Republican and Democratic voters who oppose former President Donald Trump. He suggested Romney would appeal to voters who supported former 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley in the Republican primary and that Romney as the nominee could make the case that Democrats were prioritizing their country over their own party.

The piece was later updated following Biden’s announcement that he would not seek reelection, with Sorkin endorsing Harris. Sorkin does not have his own X account and opted instead to share his endorsement via the account of Josh Malina, who played Will Bailey on the West Wing.

“I need to borrow your Twitter account again,” the email screenshot Malina shared on X said. “I take it all back. Harris for America!”

In her first comments since Biden bowed out of the 2024 race, Harris praised the president’s “legacy of accomplishment.” She added that Biden, who caught COVID-19 last week, is feeling much better and looks forward to getting back on the road.

In his own statement reacting to Biden dropping out of the race, Romney said he did not see eye to eye with the president on a number of policies but found common ground on others.

“Others will judge his presidency. However, having worked with him these past few years, I respect President Biden,” said Romney, who ran for president in 2012 as a Republican. “His decision to withdraw from the race was right and is in the best interest of the country.”

The role of Democratic nominee is not the only presidential role that Romney has been pitched for. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) suggested in April that Romney take on the role of Harvard University’s president. The role is occupied by interim President Alan Garber, who took the position when ex-President Claudine Gay stepped down in January amid plagiarism allegations, along with controversial testimony in front of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

Ford expands F-series truck production, raising questions about EV commitment thumbnail

Ford expands F-series truck production, raising questions about EV commitment

Ford announced that it will expand the production of its popular F-series truck, with the production boost set to begin in 2026.

The expansion will see Ford invest $3 billion toward the production of its Super Duty pickups, with $2.3 billion going toward installing assembly operations at Ford’s Oakville Assembly Complex in Ontario, Canada. The move to boost Super Duty assembly will secure around 1,800 jobs at the complex, 400 more what would have been needed to produce Ford’s three-row electric vehicle.

“Super Duty is a vital tool for businesses and people around the world and, even with our Kentucky Truck Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant running out flat, we can’t meet the demand,” Ford President and CEO Jim Farley said Thursday. “This move benefits our customers and supercharges our Ford Pro commercial business. At the same time, we look forward to introducing three-row electric utility vehicles, leveraging our experience in three-row utility vehicles and our learnings as America’s No. 2 electric vehicle brand to deliver fantastic, profitable vehicles.”

The expansion of Ford’s Super Duty production comes after a report earlier this year revealed that the auto company lost $1.3 billion in its electric vehicle department during the first quarter of 2024, approximately $132,000 per vehicle sold. Predictions state that the company will lose a total of $5 billion this year, up from the $4.7 billion it lost in its electric division.

Other recent news has indicated that electric vehicles as a whole still have some speed bumps to overcome to win over public support. One poll indicated that almost half of electric car owners in the United States want to go back to gas-powered vehicles. The biggest driver of this desire to ditch electric vehicles stems from a lack of available charging areas, with 40% of respondents saying there are not enough chargers along highways and main roads.

In regard to charging areas, one Harvard study found that one out of every five charging stations in the U.S. is considered faulty, making charging stations less reliable than gas stations. There are more than 64,000 public electric vehicle charging stations in the U.S., though experts argue this number needs to be much higher to successfully transition consumers to electric vehicles.

Chris Coons cries as he praises Biden’s ‘brave’ decision to bow out of 2024 race

Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) praised President Joe Biden’s “brave” decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, appearing very emotional as he spoke.

Coons, the co-chairman of the Biden-Harris campaign, made his statement while praising Vice President Kamala Harris, describing her as the best candidate to continue Biden’s work. The president himself has endorsed Harris as his replacement candidate, which was given shortly after he announced he was bowing out of the 2024 race.

“I admire, I respect, I love Joe Biden,” Coons said on CBS News. “I have worked my heart out for him on this campaign, and while this was a very hard decision, I deeply respect how it is a continuation of his lifetime of putting our country before himself. Joe Biden is the toughest fighter I’ve ever met.”

“Every time he’s been knocked down, he’s always got up again, and the challenge of seeing this moment and of recognizing what was in the best interest of the nation was a significant challenge. I still believe he could have beaten Donald Trump, but I also know that what he has done today is in the best interest of our nation,” he added.

Coons continued by stating that former President Donald Trump poses a “unique threat” against the United States. He also contended that the focus now should be on the fall 2024 campaign and preserving Biden’s presidential legacy that he claims Trump could end.

Later in the interview, Coons stopped speaking as he appeared visibly upset. He ended up continuing by adding that Biden’s “very difficult decision” to not seek reelection reflects his character.

Coons had been one of Biden’s most vocal supporters since the first presidential debate, which saw many people issue calls for the president to drop out of the 2024 race. After George Clooney called for Biden to bow out, Coons joked that he was “more of a Matt Damon guy.”

In the wake of Biden bowing out, Coons has joined Biden in endorsing Harris as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee.

Trump wrote in his own statement about the news that the June 27 debate between him and Biden was “the big moment” in Biden’s demise, as this was when voters saw him as “an incompetent man who should never have been President.” The former president officially became the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention.

Van Jones compares Biden dropping out to grandfather having keys taken away

CNN’s Van Jones was visibly upset while appearing on television Sunday, saying that people are “heartbroken” over President Joe Biden’s decision to not continue his reelection bid.

Biden revealed his decision through a statement he made on social media, and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris shortly afterward. Jones argued that Biden’s decision represents the difference “between a politician and a leader” with his “selfless” decision.

“It‘s kind of like when your grandpa, you got to take the keys and everybody ‘you got to take his keys, you got to take his keys, and he‘s fighting and he‘s fighting,’ and everybody’s so frustrated,” Jones said on CNN. “And then you finally get the keys back, and then you just cry because this is somebody that you love. This is somebody that you care about, this is somebody who was there for, this is somebody, you wouldn‘t be here without him, and you have to take something from him.”

Jones added that this is “a human moment” for both Biden and his family, and that it marks a sad day for people who wanted the president to get “across the finish line.” He contended that Biden’s decision represents his decision to put the country first.

“Wait till we get to the convention, you‘re going to see people crying, standing, screaming, cheering,” Jones said. “He may not get a chance to talk for 10 minutes. We finally get a chance to put our arms around this guy. He did the right thing for this country, the right thing for this party.”

Prior to Biden dropping out, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) contended that Harris would be ready to “step up” to take Biden’s place as the nominee, arguing that 80 million people voted for the pair in 2020 knowing that she could potentially take on the role. Since Biden has dropped out, Bill and Hillary Clinton have both given their endorsements to Harris.

In her first statement since the historic news, Harris thanked Biden for his leadership as president. She also thanked him for his endorsement to her, and that she intends “to earn and win this nomination.”

Elizabeth Warren says Harris is ‘ready to step up’ in Biden’s place thumbnail

Elizabeth Warren says Harris is ‘ready to step up’ in Biden’s place

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) stated that Vice President Kamala Harris is “ready to step up” as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee if necessary, citing the “big decision” President Joe Biden needs to make about continuing his candidacy.

Warren had been asked about a video Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) released on Friday, in which she claimed that people who want Biden removed as the 2024 nominee do not want Harris to take his place. In response, Warren insisted that Biden is the nominee for the party, but that Harris would be able to “step up” in the event he chooses to step down.

“Remember, 80 million people voted for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020 knowing that Kamala Harris would be ready to step up if needed,” Warren said on The Weekend on MSNBC. “I’ve known Kamala for nearly 15 years now, back when I was setting up the consumer financial protection bureau and Kamala was attorney general of California. We worked side by side to try to fight back against giant banks that were cheating people. Kamala has led the charge in order to fight back against the Republicans that want a nationwide abortion ban.”

Warren also referenced how Harris was once a prosecutor, noting how she would be a good pick to run against “a convicted felon,” referring to former President Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nominee.

“No matter what happens, I will be out there fighting for Democrats,” Warren said. “I believe we’re going to come together, and we’re going to win in November.”

Warren’s suggestion that Harris is ready to step in for Biden comes after several people have formed a new group called “United for Harris.” The group is made up of people who worked for the 2016 presidential campaigns of former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and has been compared to the “Ready for Hillary” group.

“We just want to put it out there that there are folks who are wanting to rally around the vice president, should Joe Biden step aside,” said Matt Ortega, who worked as digital director for communications on Clinton’s campaign. “The idea is to give some people out there who want Harris to be at the top of the ticket a focal point.”

Discussions about potentially replacing Biden have skyrocketed after the first presidential debate last month, which many argued was a weak performance by the president against Trump. Biden has insisted in several post-debate interviews that it was simply “a bad night” and that he intends to stay in the race.

Not everyone in the Democratic Party is on board with keeping Biden on the ticket, as a growing number of lawmakers are calling him to bow out. Notable names who have recently joined this call include Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), who is running for reelection in a vulnerable Senate seat; Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is running in the California Senate race this November; and Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) who said he came to the decision with a “heavy heart.”
