Norah O’Donnell will be stepping down as anchor and managing editor of “CBS Evening News” after the 2024 election in November, the veteran reporter announced in a memo on Tuesday.

O’Donnell, who has helmed CBS News’ flagship program since 2019, will be staying on with the network in a new role as senior correspondent after the election. She will continue to contribute to stories and “big interviews” across the network’s platforms and shows.

In a note addressed to her colleagues, O’Donnell stated that she enjoyed her time as “CBS Evening News” anchor but stressed that it was time for a change.

“I have spent 12 years in the anchor chair here at CBS News, tied to a daily broadcast and the rigors of a relentless news cycle,” O’Donnell wrote. “It’s time to do something different. This presidential election will be my seventh as a journalist, and for many of us in this business we tend to look at our careers in terms of these milestone events.”

O’Donnell added that she has made a “long-term commitment” to stay with CBS News and will “continue to do the same storytelling and big interviews that have been our hallmark.”

The network has not yet made an announcement about a replacement.

Pollster Nate Silver has relaunched his election forecast model and according to the latest reading, there’s some news that should make Democrats shout for joy and other data that casts a shroud of doubt on the campaign of Kamala Harris.

It looks as if the Vice President is in a slightly better position as the party nominee against former President Donald Trump than Joe Biden, who was only forecast to have a 27 percent chance of winning when he left the race, which Silver believes was being generous due to the fact the president wasn’t cognitively able to even run a normal presidential campaign. But Silver also noted a “big problem” for the Democrats’ chances with less than 100 days to go.

Silver went on to write in his Silver Bulletin newsletter that having Harris as the nominee gives the Democratic Party a fighting chance against Trump, especially since she’s currently a slight favorite over the former president in the popular vote, which the Democrats have managed to win in almost every single election since 2000. He then noted that, if the election were held today, there would be a lot of uncertainty about who would come out victorious. The lead singer of the popular rock band Green Day is catching quite a bit of much-deserved flack after he held up a rubber head in the likeness of former President Donald Trump, less than a month after he survived an assassination attempt, and tossed it into the crowd during a live performance held on Monday. Billie Joe Armstrong and his band Green Day put on a show at National Parks in Washington, D.C. as part of their latest tour. The faux Trump head was thrown out into the audience while the band played “Jesus of Suburbia.” The head was stamped with the word “Idiot” on its forehead.

A report from Breitbart News stated that the singer gripped the prop by the head in a fashion that made it look as if it had been decapitated, reminiscent of a similar stunt pulled by “comedian” Kathy Griffin a few years ago. The audience seemingly ate up the gesture, breaking out into applause and cheering as Armstrong tossed the head into the audience.

Before the recently departed Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle made the fateful decision to direct agents away from former President Donald Trump on the day of an assassination attempt, her predecessor played a “key role” in many decisions over the prior years to deny Trump’s team additional security personnel despite repeated requests after he received multiple death threats.

RealClearPolitics uncovered that Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe was “directly involved” in denying Trump’s team a full array of Secret Service resources, including additional counter-snipers who may have been able to shoot and kill a gunman before he opened fire at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13th. Several sources familiar with agency machinations say Rowe worked closely with Cheatle to turn down requests by the Trump campaign for “magnetometers, additional agents, and other resources to help screen rallygoers at large, outdoor Trump campaign gatherings.” Specifically, Rowe ordered that Secret Service snipers not attend Trump rallies that were outside the driving distance of the agency’s Washington, D.C. headquarters. The drive time from the nation’s capital to Butler is approximately four and a half hours northwest, conceivably putting the rally location far outside Rowe’s radar.
