A co-host of the left-wing, vehemently anti-Trump talk show “The View” shocked viewers by arguing that the president deserves the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026 if the ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict holds.
“Listen, I’m not the biggest Trump fan. If this ceasefire holds, he absolutely deserves the Nobel Peace Prize next time around,” Griffin said during Friday’s installment of “The Arena With Kasie Hunt.”
“Hands down, the suffering that we’ve seen from hostages who have been in detainment for two years, from innocent Palestinian civilians who have been just in the aftermath of this horrific war, he, Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, if this holds, they should absolutely be considered for it,” she added. Hunt agreed with Griffin, stating that she could not imagine there would be “that much argument around that.”
Griffin is far from the only Trump critic to praise his efforts in negotiating an end to the brutal, two-year conflict, that began following the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks when hundreds of Israeli civilians were killed and dozens of other abducted into Gaza by Hamas and related Islamist groups. New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, who has referred to the president as a “pathological liar” and a “demagogue,” also said he would be deserving of the Nobel Prize if peace holds.
“Well, if Donald Trump is able to secure a cease-fire, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, return of Israeli hostages, and it holds and paves the way for negotiations on the only solution of two states for two people… Trump will not only deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, he’ll deserve the Nobel Prize in Physics and Chemistry as well,” Friedman wrote in a recent column.
Brett McGurk, who previously worked as former President Barack Obama’s Middle East Envoy, praised the president’s team for negotiating the historic settlement after talks appeared to have stalled out just a few weeks ago.
“Having worked on this issue and helped lead negotiations for the only two ceasefires of this awful war, including the deal concluded in January, I commend the president and his team, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for finalizing this program and for the diplomacy required to build such a broad group of countries in support,” McGurk wrote in a CNN analysis of the president’s ceasefire deal, as well as his efforts to end the War in Ukraine.
A number of Democrat lawmakers, including Senators Tim Kaine (D-CA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), have also been among those to praise the deal.

Both sides agreed to the deal on Thursday after weeks of intense negotiations mediated by the United States, as well as key regional partners, including Turkey, Qatar, Egypt and others.
Under phase one of the agreement, all remaining Israeli hostages will be freed in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody. Israeli forces also agreed to withdraw to pre-agreed lines, reducing military presence in Gaza.
This was to be followed by an immediate surge in aid to address Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, with food, medical supplies, and shelter prioritized. The surge began immediately after the deal was agreed to on Thursday.
Hamas will also be required to relinquish control over Gaza, with a transitional authority backed by leading regional partners to oversee governance going forward. A multinational force, possibly including US, Egyptian, and Qatari observers, will also be tasked with monitoring compliance.
As part of the negotiations, President Trump personally engaged with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hamas intermediaries via Qatar and Egypt, and Saudi leadership. The president’s administration crafted a detailed framework, often referred to as the “20-point Trump plan,” which which addressed key sticking points like Hamas’s role in governance, Israel’s security guarantees, and the release of remaining hostages.
Phase one is set to span 30 days, starting October 8, 2025, with daily assessments beginning immediately. The hostage swap began October 9 and is being overseen by the Red Cross.
