Porter snaps at staffer in video: ‘Get out of my f—ing shot’

California gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter (D) in a newly surfaced video cursed at a staffer who interrupted a taped discussion with the Biden administration.

The Wednesday report from Politico comes a day after the former congresswoman faced blowback for trying to end an interview with a reporter, who asked how she plans to win over Trump supporters in California.

In the 2021 video, Porter was discussing the merits of electric vehicles with then-Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm when her staffer interrupted to correct her.

“Get out of my f—ing shot,” Porter said, interrupting herself, after a staffer entered her frame.

Porter has cited a study that she said suggested more than half a million Californians could die prematurely from air pollution and other problems “if we don’t electrify our transportation sector.”

The staffer, whom Politico does not identify by name, responded: “I wanted to tell you that that’s actually incorrect. It’s not that it’s electric vehicles. It’s that, if we don’t meet the commitments under the Paris Climate Accord.”

“Okay, it doesn’t—, okay. You also were in my shot before that. Stay out of my shot,” Porter told her staffer, before pivoting back to Granholm. “Okay, I’m going to start again with electric vehicles saving us money.”

The staffer, who Politico said was not the source of the video, declined to comment to the news outlet.

“It’s no secret I hold myself and my staff to a high standard, and that was especially true as a member of Congress,” Porter said in the statement on the video. “I have sought to be more intentional in showing gratitude to my staff for their important work.”

It was the second video this week that had Porter on the defensive, as she leads the field of Democrats seeking to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).

CBS News correspondent Julie Watts tussled with Porter in a sit-down interview that aired Tuesday and quickly went viral.

“What do you say to the 40 percent of California voters, who you’ll need in order to win, who voted for Trump?” Watts asked.

“How would I need them in order to win, ma’am?” Porter responded.

Asked whether she thinks she will win the other 60 percent of California voters, Porter responded, “In a general election? Yes. If it is me versus a Republican, I think I will win the people who did not vote for Trump.”

On what she thinks would happen if she faces off against another Democrat, Porter said, “I don’t intend that to be the case,” saying she has already built support in terms of name recognition.

Porter then appeared to become irritated when Watts pressed her, saying the interview was becoming “unnecessarily argumentative.” Watts noted CBS News had asked the other candidates in the race the same question.

“I don’t want to keep doing this. I’m gonna call it. Thank you,” Porter said, looking off camera.

“You’re not going to do the interview with us?” Watts asked.

“Nope, not like this, I’m not. Not with seven follow-ups to every question you ask,” Porter said.

Watts and Porter continued to go back and forth on whether Porter would answer the reporter’s questions and follow-ups.

“I don’t want to have an unhappy experience with you, and I don’t want this all on camera,” Porter said.
