BREAKING: Senate Passes Release Of The Epstein Files

The New Atlantis

The fight over the most sought-after documents in America has reached its end. In a stunning and rapid move on Tuesday, the U.S. Senate agreed by unanimous consent to approve the House-passed Epstein Files Transparency Act — a move that forces the Justice Department to release all unclassified Jeffrey Epstein records and sends the bill straight to President Donald Trump’s desk.

Trump has already made it clear he intends to sign it.

The Senate’s lightning-fast action marks the end of a months-long political standoff that roiled the House, triggered intense pressure campaigns, and sparked accusations that lawmakers were shielding the rich, powerful, and politically connected individuals tied to the disgraced financier. But with no senator objecting to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) unanimous-consent request, the chamber ensured the bill will become law the moment it is formally transmitted from the House.

Schumer took to the Senate floor to underline the significance of the moment. “My unanimous consent request guarantees that the Senate will immediately pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act without any further action as soon as it comes over from the House,” he said. “We will pass the House’s bill without changes, without delay and we will finally get this done.”

“This is about giving the American people the transparency they have been crying for,” Schumer said Tuesday. The American people have waited long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited long enough. Let the truth come out.”

With no objections raised, the bill cleared the Senate.

The legislation — which passed the House 427–1 after months of internal division — requires the Justice Department to publicly release all unclassified records and documents connected to Epstein and his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell within 30 days of being signed into law, with protections in place for survivors’ personal information and other sensitive data.

The road to Tuesday’s unanimous Senate action was anything but smooth. House Republicans resisted bringing the measure to the floor, citing concerns about investigative integrity, privacy issues, and political motives from Democrats eager to weaponize the files. President Trump himself opposed the timing of the release as recently as last week, before signaling days later that he would support it.

His reversal came after intense negotiations and a bipartisan push led by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA), who built a coalition strong enough to force the issue. Four Republicans crossed party lines to sign a discharge petition that brought the bill to the floor over Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) objections. Johnson ultimately supported the final passage.

The Senate process, by contrast, took minutes. Once the House formally transmits the bill, the upper chamber’s approval is automatic — no debate, no amendments, and no delay. The measure then heads directly to President Trump. As Schumer noted, the Department of Justice technically has the ability to release the files at any time, with or without an act of Congress. But until now, no administration or DOJ leadership had moved to do so.

That will soon change.

With Trump expected to sign the legislation immediately upon receipt, the countdown begins. The Epstein files — the names, the logs, the communications, the investigatory materials — could be public within weeks.
