JUST IN: Longtime Democrat Congressional Leader Is Recovering After Suffering A Stroke

The New Atlantis

U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) suffered a “mild stroke” over the weekend and is recovering, his office announced in a statement Tuesday.

Margaret Mulkerrin, Hoyer’s deputy chief of staff and spokesperson, announced that the high-ranking Democrat suffered a “mild ischemic stroke” and immediately sought medical treatment.

“Mr. Hoyer has responded well to treatment and has no lingering symptoms.  He expects to resume his normal schedule next week,” Mulkerrin said in a statement. “Mr. Hoyer’s wife and family extend their deepest thanks to his medical team.”

The potential cause of the stroke has not been revealed as of this report.

Hoyer, 85, has served in Congress since 1981. In January, he pushed back on the notion of retirement and announced his plans to run for re-election in the fall.

“I believe I have more work to complete on behalf of my district, my state and my country,” he said in a statement at the time. “I am blessed to have the good health, strength and enduring passion necessary to continue serving my constituents at this decisive moment for Maryland and America.”

For 20 years, Hoyer was the second most powerful Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives, outranked only by longtime caucus leader and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Throughout his long tenure, Hoyer has twice served as House Majority Leader and twice served as House Minority Whip.

Hoyer announced that he would be stepping down from leadership in 2023, paving the way for U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

The Maryland congressman is currently the most senior Democrat in the U.S. House.

NEW: Disney Executive Overseeing Trump-Kamala Debate Is A Harris Donor, Longtime Friend

The New Atlantis

A high-ranking Disney executive who is currently overseeing ABC News operations — which is set to host what may be the lone presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in September — is a donor to the Harris Campaign.

Dana Walden currently serves as 0o-chairman of Disney Entertainment, through which she oversees a number of the company’s television endeavors, including ABC News and ABC Entertainment. In recent years, she has made a number of donations to Kamala Harris’ various political campaigns, according to a report from the New York Times.

Walden first met Harris in 1994, while their husbands, Matt Walden and Doug Emhoff, have known each other since the 1980’s. Harris has described the ABC News director and her husband as “extraordinary friends” in the past.

The Waldens have donated to Harris’ political campaigns for years, starting with her run for San Francisco District Attorney in 2003.

They have also hosted a number of fundraisers for Harris at their upscale Los Angeles home. “In many ways, Dana and Matt are responsible for my marriage,” Harris joked while speaking at a fundraiser held at the couple’s home in 2022. The vice president explained that the Waldens had set up a couple who in turn had set her up with Mr. Emhoff on a blind date.

ABC News has pushed back on the notion that Dana Walden’s relationship with Harris amounts to a conflict of interest concerning the September 10 debate. The company told the New York Times that Walden oversees 18 businesses across the vast Disney empire and is only involved in corporate matters, such as budgets and staff sizes, and is not involved in editorial decisions.

“ABC News has built its longstanding reputation on journalistic integrity,” the network said in a statement. “All editorial decisions are in the hands of ABC News management and the seasoned journalists and producers of ABC, who hold themselves to the highest journalistic standards.”

Other high-profile executives — including Robert A. Iger, chief executive of the Walt Disney Company — have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democrats in the past.

Harris agreed to the September 10 debate after Trump agreed to a number of additional debates earlier this month. Harris rejected other debates — including one hosted by Fox News — and has only agreed to the ABC News event.

Harris has not yet sat for a formal interview in the 23 days since President Biden suspended his election campaign and endorsed her. She has also largely ignored reporters and has only taken questions on a handful of occasions.

Alvin Bragg Accused Of Illegally Concealing Trump Prosecution Records In New Lawsuit thumbnail

Alvin Bragg Accused Of Illegally Concealing Trump Prosecution Records In New Lawsuit

The New Atlantis

America First Legal (AFL) has filed a new lawsuit against the New York District Attorney’s Office for refusing to comply with a records request under the New York Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) regarding District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prosecution of former President Donald Trump.

In March of 2023, AFL opened an investigation into the New York County District Attorney’s Office in search of internal communications and other documents surrounding the prosecution of the former president. In one example, the legal group cited a quote from Democrat Political Operative Lanny Davis, who claimed that he triggered the investigation in a statement to Politico.

“Davis’s claims might be puffery, but they provide an additional reason to believe that the District Attorney’s unusual interest in President Trump has been based on improper partisan considerations from the start,” AFL wrote in a press release.

(VOTE: Are You Supporting TRUMP Or KAMALA In November?)

Following Trump’s conviction in the case that was plagued by political bias and prosecuted by individuals with deep ties to Democratic Party interests and the Biden Administration, AFL filed a number of additional records requests, including requests for Judge Juan Merchan’s finances. Merchan’s daughter is a high-profile consultant who has raised millions of dollars for left-wing political candidates, including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

On June 3, 2024, after several extensions, the District Attorney’s Office granted access to “one single-page record,” AFL announced in the press release.

“Additionally, its search identified ’36 responsive records’  to AFL’s request for all emails or other communications ‘mentioning or regarding Donald J. Trump’ with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), but the request was ‘denied on grand jury secrecy grounds,’” the legal group further explained.

“Bragg’s office’s statement appears inconsistent with DOJ’s June 10, 2024, response to Chairman Jim Jordan, stating that DOJ found nothing from its ‘comprehensive search for email communications since January 20, 2021, through the date of the verdict, between any officials in Department leadership, including all political appointees in those offices, and the District Attorney’s office regarding any investigation or prosecution of the former President.’”

As a result, America First Legal is now suing before the Supreme Court of the State of New York for the request of relevant records. The group is demanding all records pertaining to communications between Bragg’s staff and the Biden Administration, including the Department of Justice, the New York Times, the Free and Fair Litigation Group, and Lanny Davis’ law firm and PR firm. AFL is further requesting all records of internal communications within Bragg’s office concerning Judge Merchan or former President Trump.

As part of its investigation, AFL has previously requested records pertaining to the hiring of Matthew Colangelo, who left a senior position with the Biden DOJ to become a low level prosecutor in New York. He was immediately assigned to the Trump case and prosecuted it in court.

“When justice operates in the shadows, abuse is often the intent. America First Legal is at the forefront of getting the facts and informing the American people. There should be nothing to hide. If improper ex parte communications influenced what is supposed to be nonpartisan prosecutorial conduct, all Americans are at risk. America First Legal is suing because it is committed to ensuring our justice system is free from partisan politics,” said America First Legal Vice President Dan Epstein.

Beloved Coffee Chain Faces Boycott After Company SCORNS Trump Supporters

The New Atlantis

Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski joined Fox Business earlier this month to discuss the major anti-trust lawsuit filed by Rumble and X against a major group of advertisers, which accuses them of coordinating a boycott against spending money on the platforms. Pavlovski later took to X with emails from agencies in which the company was pressured to drop right-wing creators and do away with “right-wing culture” if they wanted advertising deals for top brands such as Dunkin’ Donuts and Jimmy John’s.

“If you’re an advertiser and you don’t wanna advertise on Rumble or X, that’s totally fine. You have the option to do that. But the problem happens when you have a consortium, or a group like the World Federation of Advertisers, or the group that they created called GARM, which then assemble all these advertisers and agencies, which creates a huge amount of power for GARM to basically instruct these companies on whether or not and how they want to employ brand safety standards,” Pavlovski told Fox Business.

(STAY INFORMED! Download the FREE Trending Politics app)

“They then can now discriminate against certain voices on other platforms,” he continued. “If they don’t like what some speech might happen on Rumble or X, they can say, we’re not going to touch that, which then causes advertising rates to go higher because now they’re only accessing a certain portion of the market and then drives higher prices for their shareholders and their brands. This harms the advertisers, the shareholders, it creates a higher fee for the agencies and also harms Rumble creators and Rumble viewers and the Rumble platform.”

Pavlovski went on to describe ad agencies as operating as a “harmful monopoly.”

Pavlovski revealed the first of a series of conversations with advertisers surrounding the prospect of deals with Rumble shortly prior to his interview on Fox Business.

The first email was from Diageo North America, a leading alcoholic beverage company that is part of the “GARM Steer Team,” Pavlovski noted. In an email to Rumble, Diageo wrote that “there is no scenario where we approve a platform that has Steven Crowder, Alex Jones or the like. The content on your platform is non-compliant pretty much across every category we try to avoid.”

Similar sentiments were expressed by Inspire Brands, whose chains include Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin Robbins, Jimmy Johns and a number of additional high-profile brands. “To be honest [redacted], I would be opposed to showing up on the current version of the platform — the right-wing culture of the site is too polarizing from a brand standpoint today,” a representative for Inspire Brands wrote in an email to Rumble.

They added that they will be open to continuing discussions “as the platform evolves.”

“When you have a monopoly and you create a monopoly by assembling all this power and control to dictate a certain standard of how you’re gonna spend that money, that’s not a free market. The Sherman Act does not allow that,” Pavlovski told Fox Business.

“So that’s illegal. There’s different rules and standards when you’re a monopoly. And what the World Federation of Advertisers has done is they created a monopoly to basically tell all these advertisers how they should spend money based on certain speech,” he continued.

Download the FREE Trending Politics app ) “They then can now discriminate against certain voices on other platforms,” he continued. “If they don’t like what some speech might happen on Rumble or X, they can say, we’re not going to touch that, which then causes advertising rates to go higher because now they’re only accessing a certain portion of the market and then drives higher prices for their shareholders and their brands. This harms the advertisers, the shareholders, it creates a higher fee for the agencies and also harms Rumble creators and Rumble viewers and the Rumble platform.” Pavlovski went on to describe ad agencies as operating as a “harmful monopoly.” Pavlovski revealed the first of a series of conversations with advertisers surrounding the prospect of deals with Rumble shortly prior to his interview on Fox Business. The content on your platform is non-compliant pretty much across every category we try to avoid.” Similar sentiments were expressed by Inspire Brands, whose chains include Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin Robbins, Jimmy Johns and a number of additional high-profile brands. “To be honest [redacted], I would be opposed to showing up on the current version of the platform — the right-wing culture of the site is too polarizing from a brand standpoint today,” a representative for Inspire Brands wrote in an email to Rumble. They added that they will be open to continuing discussions “as the platform evolves.” Photo: Chris Pavlovski via X “When you have a monopoly and you create a monopoly by assembling all this power and control to dictate a certain standard of how you’re gonna spend that money, that’s not a free market. NEW: Trump Hints At Potential Role For Elon Musk In Future Administration

The New Atlantis

Former President Donald Trump hinted at a number of future roles for X, Space X and Tesla CEO Elon Musk in a future administration.

“You know, the new head of a place called Argentina, and he’s a big, you know, he’s great. And he’s a big MAGA fan, you know that he ran on MAGA. And he took it to an extreme, too. He ran on MAGA, and I hear he’s doing really a terrific job. It’s called Make Argentina Great Again. It worked out perfectly,” Trump said.

(FREE RED HAT: “Impeached. Arrested. Convicted. Shot. Still Standing”)

“And Argentina overnight is experiencing a giant improvement in prosperity. But it’s also a lesson for the United States, which is that Argentina used to be one of the most prosperous countries in the 30s, 40s, and because of bad government policy, it ruined the country. And if you take Venezuela, for example, Venezuela should be incredibly prosperous. They have, you know, phenomenal reserves of everything, oil, everything, and it should be prosperous, but if the government’s wrong, it impoverishes the people,” he continued. “And so, I think we should not be complacent in the United States in thinking that and taking our prosperity for granted because if with bad government policy we can run the country into the ground.”

Musk then chimed in to note that Americans cannot take prosperity for granted, at which point Trump shifted the discussion to the Department of Education.

“So we’re ranked at the bottom of every list of the top 40. We’re ranked number 40, number 38 Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, different countries are ranked good. Actually China’s pretty close to the top. They’re a top six or seven. But we’re ranked at the bottom, almost at the bottom, 38, 39, 40,” he said.

“In other words, horrible. And yet we spend more per pupil than any other country in the world. So we spend more. And what I’m going to do, one of the first acts, and this is where I need an Elon Musk, I need somebody that has a lot of strength and courage and smarts. I want to close up Department of Education, move education back to the states where states, like Iowa, where states like Idaho, you know, not every state will do great because states that basically aren’t doing good now,” Trump said.

He then pointed to states like California and others that are declining in educational standards while Musk agreed with his plan.

Trump Recalls Assassination Attempt In Candid Conversation With Elon Musk: ‘Not Pleasant’

The New Atlantis

X owner Elon Musk began his historic interview with former President Donald Trump by asking about the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania last month.

“So excited to endorse you as the President of the United States for having the term here. That was just incredibly inspiring. But I mean, what was it like for you?” Musk asked.

“Not pleasant,” Trump joked. “I have to be honest. I said there was blood. I had blood. I didn’t know I had that much blood. The doctors later told me that the ear is a place that is a very bloody place if you’re going to get hit. But in this case, it was probably the best alternative you could even think about because it went at the right angle.”

“And, you know, it was a hard hit. It was very, I guess you would say, surreal, but it wasn’t surreal. You know, I was telling somebody you have Instances like this or like a lot less than this where you feel it’s a surreal situation,” he continued. “And I never felt that way, I knew immediately that it was a bullet. So I’m glad I went down. The the bigger miracle was that I was looking in the exact direction of the shooter and so it hit it hit me at an angle.”‘

Trump went on to compare the gunman’s line of sight on his podium to a two-foot putt in golf. Musk replied by noting that the building would have been the “perfect” place for a gunman looking to do harm.

Elsewhere in the discussion, Trump stated that “illegal immigration saved my life” after he turned to face a chart on illegal immigration at the last moment. His slight turn caused the bullet to miss his head and graze his ear instead.

“If I had not turned my head, I would not be talking to you right now. As much as I like you, I would not,” Trump said. “Yeah, you’d be talking to me from another realm perhaps,” Musk joked.

Trump went on to thank medical staff in Butler Count for their work. He also paid tribute to slain firefighter Corey Comparator, who was killed while shielding his family from incoming gunfire, and the two other critically wounded rally goers.

The former president also doubled down on his promise to return to Butler County for a rally in October.

“By the way, we’re going back to Butler and we’re going to go back in October. We’re all set up and we’re the people are fantastic in Butler. It’s a big it’s a great area,” Trump said. “These are incredible people. Like the three that, in the case of Corey, killed, and the other two. The families are great, I’ve gotten to know them. But we’re going back to Butler.”

Trump-Musk Space Shatters Streaming Records Despite Alleged Cyber Attack

The New Atlantis

The long-awaited X Spaces discussion between former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk launched with technical difficulties as a result of an alleged DDOS attack on X servers, Musk announced in an X post. The tech mogul added that the discussion will be held with a smaller number of viewers and uploaded at a later time if necessary. Despite the technical difficulties, the historic space has already drawn tens of millions of views in less than an hour and set streaming records on other platforms, including Rumble.

“There appears to be a massive DDOS attack on 𝕏. Working on shutting it down,” Musk wrote shortly after 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday. “Worst case, we will proceed with a smaller number of live listeners and post the conversation later.”

In a follow-up post, the X owner stated that the space was tested for upwards of 8 million live viewers earlier in the day. He further added that the space will proceed with fewer listeners at 8:30, followed by an immediate upload.

Despite the technical difficulties, the Space appears to be generating historic interest and view counts across the internet. Former President Trump’s post advertising the space has already racked up an astonishing 35 million X views in less than an hour.

Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski announced that a mirror stream hosted by culture podcaster “The Quarreling” has shattered the site’s streaming record, as more than 100,000 live viewers are populating that stream alone. Other streams, including one hosted by conservative commentator Benny Johnson, have pulled in hundreds of thousands of additional viewers between them.

When the space eventually launched, Trump congratulated Musk for “breaking every record in the book” with the historic stream.

It is expected that the conversation will ultimately draw hundreds of millions of viewers once it is uploaded in its entirety.

During the first Republican presidential primary debate last August, the former president’s interview with Tucker Carlson drew more than 267 million views on X alone. The Trump-Musk Space is expected to shatter that record

Critics Slam ‘Time’ Magazine Over ‘North Korea-Level’ Pro-Harris Cover thumbnail

Critics Slam ‘Time’ Magazine Over ‘North Korea-Level’ Pro-Harris Cover

The New Atlantis

“Time” Magazine is under fire from both sides of the political spectrum over a glowing profile of Vice-President Harris that was released despite Harris’ decision to decline an interview with the outlet.

The new cover features a portrait of Harris done in a style reminiscent of the Obama campaign’s famous “Hope and Change” posters from 2008. Titled “The Re-Introduction of Kamala Harris,” the cover is complete with a caption reading “Her Moment” in the bottom right-hand corner.

The magazine opted to release the title despite the fact that Harris declined an interview with the outlet. As of this report, Harris has gone 22 days without sitting for a formal interview or hosting a press conference after she received the Democrat Party nomination for president without receiving a single primary vote.

The New Atlantis

“Harris has yet to do a single substantive interview or to explain her policy shifts. (Her campaign denied a request for an interview for this story),” the outlet wrote in a brief note.

Much of the piece read as a fawning endorsement of Harris and compared the atmosphere at her campaign events to that of a Taylor Swift concert. The Harris Campaign has invited several artists, including Megan Thee Stallion and Bon Iver, to perform free concerts ahead of her rallies.

In some instances, “rally goers” have been seen exiting the event venue as soon as the free concert concludes.

The magazine also quoted several high-profile Democrats, who provided their own glowing endorsements of Harris. “To consolidate the Democratic Party in a matter of hours, to do as many visible events and establish that presence without putting a foot wrong, is a feat,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

“I don’t think anybody expected her to be so flawless,” he added.

The new cover generated largely negative reactions on X, as many political commentators compared the glowing story to state-run media.

“The way the US corporate media transformed Kamala Harris from a national embarrassment to a transformative pioneer overnight — without even pretending to care about anything that she thinks or believes — is a powerful testament to how potent the science of propaganda is,” wrote veteran journalist Glenn Greenwald.

“The corporate media’s mission, as they see it, is to help Kamala win, not denounce her for refusing to sit down in interviews and explain what she thinks about anything or why,” he continued. “Even though she told TIME to f off, they still published hagiography of her.”

Economic news account “Geiger Capital” compared the cover to “North Korea-level worshipping.”

“The way the US corporate media has tried to transform Kamala Harris from a consensus joke to a historic leader in a matter of weeks, without even pretending to care about her policies or ideas, shows how blatant US propaganda has become,” they wrote.

The new issue is set to release in full on August 26.

“The way the US corporate media has tried to transform Kamala Harris from a consensus joke to a historic leader in a matter of weeks, without even pretending to care about her policies or ideas, shows how blatant US propaganda has become,” they wrote.

, “Time” Magazine is under fire from both sides of the political spectrum over a glowing profile of Vice-President Harris that was released despite Harris’ decision to decline an interview with the outlet. ( STAY INFORMED! Download the FREE Trending Politics app ) “Harris has yet to do a single substantive interview or to explain her policy shifts. CNN political commentator Brianna Keilar downplayed J.D. Vance’s military service while attempting to defend Minnesota Governor Tim Walz from criticism over his military record.

Governor Walz has been under fire this week over questions surrounding his military service record. Soldiers from his unit with the Minnesota National Guard have questioned the circumstances surrounding his retirement just before a deployment to Iraq, and have noted that he has misrepresented his rank while on the campaign trail.

He has also claimed to have “carried weapons of war,” during a war,” and has insinuated that he was a veteran of the War in Afghanistan.

“I also think that J.D. Vance as a messenger on this may be an imperfect messenger because we have, as you introduced him, as a combat correspondent, which was what his title was. But when you dig a little deeper into that, he was a public affairs specialist, someone who did not see combat, which certainly the title, combat correspondent, kind of gives you a different impression,” Keilar said, seemingly downplaying Vance’s 2005 deployment to Iraq. “So he may be the imperfect messenger on that.”

Vance soon responded to Keilar’s statement in an X post.

It’s easy to sit in the comfort and safety of a @CNN studio and trivialize the service of countless men and women who risked their lives. I served with some of the people mentioned in this thread,” Vance wrote while tagging Keilar. “I served with some of the people mentioned in this thread. I miss them all very much. Shameful of  @brikeilarcnn to slander an entire MOS.”

The tweet was made in response to several questions surrounding the military record of Governor Walz.

In a 2018 endorsement letter to the West Central Tribune, retired Command Sergeant Majors Thomas Behrends and Paul Herr shared their lengthy experiences with Governor Walz during their time in the Minnesota National Guard

“Tim Walz has embellished and selectively omitted facts and circumstances of his military career for years,” the men wrote. “We, retired Command Sergeants Major of the Minnesota National Guard, feel it is our duty and responsibility to bring forth the truth as we know it concerning his service record. So, we have put together a timeline of his service post 9/11.”

The retired veterans further accused Walz of abandoning his unit just before they were deployed to a combat zone in Iraq. In 2005, one year after he had been promoted to Command Sergeant Major of the 1-125th Field Artillery Battalion, Walz left his soldiers “hanging” at the crucial time, the men wrote.

“His excuse to other leaders was that he needed to retire in order to run for congress,” reads the letter.  “Which is false, according to a Department of Defense Directive, he could have run and requested permission from the Secretary of Defense before entering active duty; as many reservists have.

“If he had retired normally and respectfully, you would think he would have ensured his retirement documents were correctly filled out and signed, and that he would have ensured he was reduced to Master Sergeant for dropping out of the academy. Instead he waited for the paperwork to catch up to him. His official retirement document states, SOLDIER NOT AVAILABLE FOR SIGNATURE.”As a result, Walz was demoted to master sergeant, the two retired veterans continued.

This, they claim, contradicts his claim that he was the highest-ranking enlisted man ever elected to Congress.

CNN has conceded that Walz has used loose language to describe his military exploits, while the Harris Campaign has quietly deleted reference to his rank
