Ben Shapiro OWNS Eric Swalwell During House Hearing: ‘Congrats On Becoming A Republican’

The New Atlantis

During Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing on the implications of “Collusion in the Global Alliance for Responsible Media,” Ben Shapiro, co-founder of The Daily Wire, threw a zinger at Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA).

The hearing heated up when Swalwell attempted to navigate the discussion toward the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, prompting an interruption from Shapiro. As Swalwell fumbled through his words, trying to pin down Shapiro on bureaucracy and government efficiency, Shapiro’s quick wit was on full display.

“You probably want less bureaucracy, right?” Swalwell asked.

“I do,” said Shapiro.

“You want more efficiency?” Swalwell asked again.

“I do,” Shapiro said again.

“You want taxpayer money spent wisely?” he followed up one last time.

“I do. Congrats on becoming a Republican,” Shapiro joked.

WATCH:

The committee’s early morning report shed light on the shady practices of the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), accusing them of conspiring to demonetize unfavored online content. Shapiro’s testimony hopes to shed light on the political drivers of this censorship, detailing its effects on media liberty and the unsuccessful efforts to muzzle voices from The Daily Wire, Fox News, and Breitbart, including prominent figures like Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, and Donald Trump.

“These people do not like conservatives. Again, do not take my word for it, here’s what employees at Group M said to GARM’s leader about Fox News, The Daily Wire, and Breitbart News,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said before referring to individuals who reportedly said, “they hated their [conservative] ideology.”

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D, NY), the top Democrat on the committee, supported GARM in his initial remarks, stating that it is essential to eliminate “racist” content from the internet. He also claimed that The Daily Wire and similar platforms contain “hate speech” and “violent propaganda.”

Shapiro’s testimony revealed that GARM collaborated to demonetize conservative commentators and news organizations such as The Daily Wire. “There is in fact an informal pressure system created by Democratic legislators, this White House, legacy media, advertisers, and pseudo-objective brand safety organizations,” Shapiro claimed. “That system guarantees that advertising dollars flow only to left-wing media brands.”

Rep. Pramila Jayapal criticized Ben Shapiro for his remarks, charging him with expressing “hateful” views. Shapiro was not allowed to respond. “One of our witnesses has repeatedly made hateful and derogatory comments about LGBTQ+ people in the past,” Jayapal stated

“Mr. Shapiro has argued that transgender and gay Americans suffer from a psychological disorder or mental illness and has denigrated same-sex couples raising children. I and my fellow Americans find this deeply offensive,” she claimed.

“If they simply wish to levy a boycott against a right-wing source, they should just say that’s what they’re doing,” Shapiro eventually said. “Hiding behind fake standards to project objectivity is a significant issue for market transparency.”

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) found herself in a hairy situation during a CNN interview last night. While tackling heavy questions about President Joe Biden’s fitness for office, Waters battled a far more immediate concern: her rebellious wig.

The scene unfolded as CNN’s Abby Phillip posed sharp questions about the Democratic strategy in the upcoming election, contrasting the performance of President Biden with that of former President Donald Trump. Amid the serious conversation, Waters’ hair seemed to have its own agenda.

Every attempt by Waters to corral her mane back into place seemed only to exacerbate the situation, leading to an awkward ballet of pats, tucks, and readjustments. The Congresswoman appeared momentarily undone by her own hairpiece.

“It sounds like you’re talking about saying and doing all the same things, but do you believe that something needs to change?” Phillip pressed on, perhaps unknowingly echoing the silent plea of Waters’ wig for a new strategy. “I think we need to keep working,” Waters responded.

WATCH:

Questions about President Biden’s fitness have culminated for Democrats in recent weeks. On Wednesday, actor and prominent Democratic donor George Clooney urged President Biden to step aside from the 2024 presidential race. Clooney described a noticeable decline in Biden’s capabilities, contrasting with his previous impressions of the president during a fundraiser three weeks earlier.

However, Democratic aides close to the president expressed their intention to move past this discussion, concentrating instead on strategizing to overcome former President Trump in the 2024 election.

NFL Legend Bernie Kosar Reveals Tragic Medical Diagnosis thumbnail

NFL Legend Bernie Kosar Reveals Tragic Medical Diagnosis

The New Atlantis

In the face of daunting health challenges, Bernie Kosar remains steadfast and hopeful. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback, a revered figure in Cleveland sports history, is battling not one, but two serious medical conditions. At 60 years old, Kosar has been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and is also in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease.

Kosar shared his optimistic outlook with Cleveland Magazine, despite the severity of his health issues after he has seen significant health improvements after a concerning start to 2024.

Initially, his condition appeared dire, leading to his placement on the liver transplant list in late spring. Dr. Anthony Post, a hepatologist at University Hospitals, has been closely monitoring Kosar’s health. Despite the former quarterback’s rapid improvement, Dr. Post cautioned that liver disease can be unpredictable, and conditions can change swiftly. Kosar’s ongoing treatment and recovery are closely watched by his family, fans, and medical team.

“Liver disease does tend to fluctuate,” Post said. “So he’s on that wave thing where it goes up and down. He’s in a good phase right now, but anything bad could happen.” Dr. Michael Roizen, chief wellness officer of Cleveland Clinic, believes Kosar’s path toward recovery will likely involve a liver transplant, estimating more than a 90% chance that the former quarterback will need a new liver.  “He is a wonderful and tough human being,” Roizen remarked, “but undergoing a transplant, no matter who you are, is a difficult thing: difficult to get the transplant, difficult to live with it.”

Kosar’s NFL career spanned from 1985 to 1996, with the majority of his time spent with the Cleveland Browns. His tenure with the team was highlighted by several playoff appearances, including three AFC Championship Games. Unfortunately for Kosar and the Browns, each of these championship games resulted in losses to the Denver Broncos, including the infamous 1986 and 1987 games, known for “The Drive” and “The Fumble” which were heartbreaking for Cleveland fans.

In 1993, midway through the season, Kosar was unexpectedly released by the Browns in a controversial decision made by then-head coach Bill Belichick. Shortly after his release, he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys, with whom he won a Super Bowl in the 1993 season, serving as a backup to Troy Aikman.

Kosar finished his career with the Miami Dolphins, playing as a backup from 1994 to 1996 under his former college coach, Jimmy Johnson. Post-retirement, Kosar stayed connected to football in various capacities, including brief stints in broadcasting and consulting roles.

Off the field, Kosar has contributed to the community and remains a beloved figure in Cleveland, often participating in team events and NFL-related activities. However, his battle with liver disease reached a turning point 16 months ago when he was diagnosed with cirrhosis, the third of four stages of liver failure.

“My body gave out on me. I really felt like I wasn’t going to make it home from the Jets game,” he said. “I sucked it up, though, and continued to avoid the doctors until the new year. Then I went into the hospital and got a massive blood transfusion. It was like: ‘How are you alive? How are you moving? Because your hemoglobin levels are so low.’”

“I wish you could have seen me three months ago,’’ Kosar said. “Actually, maybe not, because I looked like death. I felt like death. E. Coli blood poisoning. Heart trouble. And I really thought I needed the liver transplant ASAP. I was in bad shape. I have an incredibly specific regimen of juicing, black coffee and smart supplementation. Digestive enzymes are part of it. Intermittent fasting. Basically, I’m using food as medicine and avoiding the processed foods, the foods with inflammatory properties.

“It’s amazing that you can feel as good as I do despite all this stuff going on. I can see that what I’m doing is making a difference. I strongly believe it will continue. Time will tell.’’

“I strongly believe in the power of positive thinking,’’ Kosar finished. “For me, it’s not just a slogan. I believe that positive energy can be manifested in our brains, and I love to live in the space of positivity. I want to think about things that are helpful. It sounds like I’m getting on a soap box here, but I visualize good health. It’s not so much that I’m trying to sell it to myself, or that I’m in denial, as it is choosing to be positive. Because everybody’s got something. We’ve all got health issues to some degree, we all have bumps in the road.”

NEW: Biden Skipped Critical Meeting With World Leader For Early Bedtime

The New Atlantis

Senior White House advisors have carefully controlled Joe Biden’s schedule and public appearances for over a year, aiming to shield the public from signs of aging in the oldest president, 81, ever in U.S. history. Concerns about the president’s endurance has even led to aides vetoing plans for nationwide trips. These measures were taken as more and more of Biden’s public gaffes were noticed, despite assurances from top advisors that he was in good health.

The concerns culminated when Biden struggled significantly during the 90-minute debate in June, shocking even some of his own staff and party members who had limited personal interactions with him. A White House official revealed that Biden has communicated with at least 20 lawmakers following his poor debate. Despite requests from Republican leaders for a direct meeting with Biden, his team declined, offering discussions with senior aides instead.

As Biden’s presidency has progresses… or regressed, his interactions with lawmakers have diminished, evidenced by visitor logs and public eye. At the G& summit, recognizing Biden’s tendency for fatigue in the evenings, German officials even arranged an early evening event with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in June 2022. The informal gathering at the Alpine resort, part of the summit, was intended as a discreet discussion about Ukraine.

However, Biden did not attend the event, surprising Chancellor Scholz and his team. Instead, Secretary of State Antony Blinken appeared, informing those present that the President of the United States needed to retire for the night, according to accounts from two attendees who spoke with The Wall Street Journal.

Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the State Department, refuted claims that Secretary Blinken said Biden needed to go to bed. “Secretary Blinken never made such a statement.”

Another White House official elaborated that during the summit, Biden effectively juggled his responsibilities, engaging with international leaders while also handling urgent domestic issues. This included ending one of the summit days at 10 p.m. after a lengthy discussion with his domestic team. Those familiar told the WSJ that Biden seemed increasingly exhausted over the days, a condition U.S. aides attributed to the lack of air conditioning at the venue. During a meeting with Democratic governors last week, the president expressed his need for more sleep and recommended avoiding events scheduled to start after 8 p.m.

On June 4, the WSJ reported that people in D.C. observed Biden had been underperforming. However, the White House quickly countered these claims, asserting that the president was sharp and focused. They attributed the criticism to partisan politics.

The outlet reported during a January meeting in the West Wing with congressional leaders about Ukraine funding, Biden’s soft speech made it difficult for some attendees to hear him, according to five sources familiar with the event. He relied on notes to emphasize clear points, occasionally paused for long periods, and closed his eyes for extended durations, leading some to question if he was disengaged.

In a separate February meeting in the Oval Office, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) reported that Biden referred to a significant policy shift affecting large energy projects merely as a “study.” This conversation, recounted by six individuals briefed on the matter, raised concerns about the president’s recall of his administration’s policies.

The debate against former President Donald Trump seems to have let the cat out of the bag.

Firefighters successfully and quietly put out a fire at Carrie Underwood’s property in Williamson County weeks ago. The fire occurred just after 9:30 p.m. in the rural Pinewood community, west of Leiper’s Fork. Given the secluded nature of Underwood’s home, Williamson County Fire Rescue mobilized all eight of its stations to tackle the fire.

Underwood was at home with her 44-year-old husband, Mike Fisher, their sons Isaiah, 9, and Jacob, 5, along with their pets when the fire occurred.

Officials from WKRN News 2 reported that responding fire crews navigated a lengthy road and driveway to reach Underwood’s main residence. Upon arrival, they encountered a significant fire engulfing the property’s garage. Fortunately, the presence of a 10,000-gallon water tank on the property enabled firefighters to swiftly control the blaze without the delay of establishing a water supply in the remote area.

After extinguishing the initial flames, firefighters continued to monitor the scene for several hours, addressing recurring flare-ups within the walls and other hot spots.

“At 9:42 Station 21 was dispatched to a fire alarm in their district,” Williamson County Fire/Rescue wrote on Facebook on June 16. “Almost immediately the call was upgraded to a structure fire. Crews from all eight of our stations responded. Fairview Fire provided a tanker and crew as well. Upon arrival, 1401 found flames coming from the garage. Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly to prevent spread into the house.”

A spokesperson for Underwood said in a statement, “There was a fire on the property on Sunday night, which was quickly contained. There was no fire damage to the primary residence, and the family and their pets were unharmed.”

JUST IN: Nikki Haley Reverses Course, Makes HUGE Announcement Ahead Of RNC thumbnail

JUST IN: Nikki Haley Reverses Course, Makes HUGE Announcement Ahead Of RNC

The New Atlantis

In the 2024 race for the Republican nomination, tensions were high between former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and former President Donald Trump, as both vied for the party’s top spot. However, months after a spirited and contentious campaign, Haley has made a significant move reflecting a united front.

Nikki Haley is now releasing all 97 of her delegates and urging them to support Trump at next week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, according to Politico’s Meridith McGraw.

“The nominating convention is a time for Republican unity,” Haley is anticipated to say in a statement. “JOE BIDEN is not competent to serve a second term and KAMALA HARRIS would be a disaster for America. We need a president who will hold our enemies to account, secure our border, cut our debt, and get our economy back on track. I encourage my delegates to support Donald Trump next week in Milwaukee.”

When asked if Haley would attend the upcoming convention, her spokesperson Chaney Denton responded, “She was not invited, and she’s fine with that. Trump deserves the convention he wants. She’s made it clear she’s voting for him and wishes him the best.”

After leaving the Trump administration in 2018, Haley remained a prominent figure in the Republican Party. She praised certain aspects of Trump’s presidency while also being willing to critique him when their views did not align. Her stance seemed strategically calibrated to maintain support among the Trump base while also appealing to more moderate Republicans.

As speculation about the 2024 Presidential race heated up, Haley’s relationship with Trump became more scrutinized. Despite earlier assertions that she would not run against Trump if he sought the presidency in 2024, Haley decided to enter the race, signaling a shift from supporter to competitor. The move placed her in direct contention with Trump, altering their relationship from allies within the same administration to rivals vying for the same nomination.

At the Iowa caucuses on January 15, Trump secured his first decisive victory. The former president continued his winning streak at the New Hampshire primary on January 23, defeating Haley by another resounding margin. Following Trump’s string of commanding wins on Super Tuesday, Haley suspended her campaign on March 6. Her only victories were in Vermont and the District of Columbia.

In May, Haley decided to endorse Trump after weeks of speculation. “I put my priorities on a president who’s going to have the backs of our allies and hold our enemies to account, who would secure the border—no more excuses,” Haley said. “Trump has not been perfect on these policies; I have made that clear many, many times. But Biden has been a catastrophe.”

“So, I will be voting for Trump,” she concluded. “Having said that, I stand by what I said in my suspension speech: Trump would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and continue to support me, and not assume that they’re just going to be with him. And I genuinely hope he does that.”

While the Republican Party appears unified around their candidate, the same cannot be said for the Democrats. Within the Democratic caucus, there’s a noticeable lack of agreement regarding Biden’s bid for re-election. Just before a crucial Tuesday meeting dubbed a “come-to-Jesus” session, a small contingent of Democrats from key swing districts held an emotionally charged meeting complete with tears over Biden’s course of action.

JUST IN: Congressional Democrats Broke Down In Tears During Meeting On Biden’s Future

The New Atlantis

Democrats in the House have returned to Washington with a critical agenda: to address Joe Biden’s potential candidacy as the congressional recess concludes. Tensions have been rising since June’s debate as an increasing number of lawmakers have expressed their doubts about Biden’s abilities in the upcoming race.

The president, meanwhile, has been making efforts to dismiss any speculation of him bowing out. Just before a crucial Tuesday meeting dubbed a “come-to-Jesus” session, a smaller contingent of Democrats from key swing districts held an emotionally charged meeting, complete with tears.

At the full caucus meeting of the Democrats, opinions were divided. One lawmaker who attended the emotionally charged meeting described it to Axios as “intense.” Another participant captured the prevailing sentiment, saying it was “pretty much unanimous” that Biden “has got to step down,” noting, “There were actual tears from people, and not for Biden.”

While some lawmakers defended Biden, others questioned his ability to compete against former President Donald Trump according to attendees. A House Democrat present at both meetings remarked, “Most of our caucus is still with him … meaning he’ll stay in. Which sucks for our country.”

Following the meeting on Tuesday, one lawmaker who had previously said to Axios that the revolt was “over” reiterated their stance, stating the meeting only solidified that perception. “There were no surprises there,” the lawmaker commented.

On Monday Biden released a lengthy letter addressing his future. His two-page letter exposed a window into his thinking as he pushes back against other party leaders who fear he is jeopardizing not only their chances of keeping the White House, but preserving a Senate majority and winning back the U.S. House as well.

The embattled president has rebuffed calls to step aside, saying it is time for Democrats to “come together, move forward as a unified party, and defeat Donald Trump.”

Biden has tried to confirm he will not be dropping out of the race and cited strong electoral wins in state Democratic primaries as evidence that the party’s grassroots stands behind him as the nominee. Biden also followed up the letter with a Monday morning appearance on MSNBC where he warned Democrats against trying to force his hand.

“The bottom line here is that we’re not going anywhere — I am not going anywhere,” he said. “I had a bad night,” he said of his debate. “But the fact of the matter is — if there was something that was wrong that night, it’s not like it’s one night and it goes away. That’s why I’ve been out, I’ve been testing myself.”

WATCH:

“Run against me. Announce for president. Challenge me at the convention,” Biden added. “The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end. We have one job. And that is to beat Donald Trump. We have 42 days to the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election. Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us.”

On Sunday the New York Times reported that ranking House Democrats, convened by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), met privately to air grievances about Biden’s refusal to step aside.

Celine Dion Seen Suffering Seizure During 2022 Documentary

Celine Dion Seen Suffering Seizure During 2022 Documentary

The New Atlantis

In a profoundly moving scene from her latest documentary, “I Am: Celine Dion,” iconic singer Celine Dion was seen suffering a seizure, due to her ongoing struggle with stiff person’s syndrome. The footage, captured during a routine doctor’s visit, showed Dion experiencing involuntary spasms, beginning with subtle signs in her fingers before escalating into a full-blown seizure.

Despite the severity of the situation, Dion attempted to maintain her composure, even trying to laugh off the initial symptoms.

The scary moment, streamed on Amazon Prime, offered an unfiltered glimpse into Dion’s personal health battles. On December 8, 2022, Dion shared with the world her diagnosis of stiff person’s syndrome, a rare and often debilitating neurological disorder characterized by severe muscle stiffness and painful spasms.

The condition can lead to significant physical disability and has impacted her ability to perform. By releasing this footage, Dion aims to raise awareness about the disease, which remains largely unknown to the general public.

WATCH:

In June, Dion opened up about her struggle with the disease. The 56-year-old, five-time Grammy winner described the crippling effect on her singing ability. “It is like somebody strangling you. It is like someone is pushing your larynx,” Dion told Hoda Kotb. “You cannot get high or lower. It goes into a spasm.”

“But it can also be in the abdominal, can be in the spine, can be in the ribs. It feels like if I point my feet, they will stay,” she explained. “It is cramping, but it is in a position where you cannot unlock them.” Kotb even revealed that Dion had a broken rib as a result of one of her past spasms.

“She thought she was crazy; she went to so many doctors,” Kotb told her co-hosts at TODAY. “Then they found the diagnosis. There is actually something in her bloodstream. She’s fighting through it, trying to figure out if she can come back.”

WATCH:

Stiff-person syndrome is a rare and complex neurological disorder characterized by severe muscle stiffness and spasms. Stiff-person syndrome can significantly impact mobility and may be associated with other autoimmune diseases. Symptoms typically progress gradually and can lead to difficulty walking and a heightened sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional distress.

The exact cause of the disorder is unknown, but it involves an abnormal autoimmune response that may be linked to the nervous system. Treatment often includes medications to manage symptoms, such as muscle relaxants and drugs that suppress the immune system.

“I’m well, but it’s a lot of work. I’m taking it one day at a time,” Dion told Vogue France in April this year. “I haven’t beat the disease, as it’s still within me and always will be. I hope that we’ll find a miracle, a way to cure it with scientific research, but for now I have to learn to live with it. So that’s me, now with Stiff Person Syndrome. Five days a week I undergo athletic, physical and vocal therapy.”

“I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice… I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself.,” Dion said, “At the beginning, I would ask myself: why me? How did this happen? What have I done? Is this my fault?”

“Life doesn’t give you any answers. You just have to live it!” she said. “I have this illness for some unknown reason. The way I see it, I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself. I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!”

“Above all, the love of my family and my children, the love of the fans too, and the support of my team,” Dion explained. “People who suffer from SPS may not be lucky enough or have the means to have good doctors and good treatments. I have those means, and this is a gift. What’s more, I have this strength within me.”

“I know that nothing is going to stop me.”

Whoopi Goldberg ‘Devastated’ After Latest Book Completely Flops

Whoopi Goldberg ‘Devastated’ After Latest Book Completely Flops

The New Atlantis

“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg is facing a major disappointment as her much-anticipated memoir has failed to captivate audiences, resulting in dismal sales. Known for her outspoken views on the popular daytime talk show, Goldberg had high hopes for her latest literary offering. However, it appears that the public’s interest did not align with her expectations, leaving the celebrated actress and television personality to grapple with the reality of a book that simply didn’t resonate as expected.

“Despite a whirlwind of publicity, the book has shockingly landed at number 800 on the bestseller list after just a few weeks,” a source exclusively told Closer of her book ‘Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me,’ which was released in May.

“Whoopi is devastated by the flop, questioning how such a high-profile release could fall so flat,” said the insider. “She thought she’d be as successful as Prince Harry and Britney Spears and even hoped it would be turned into a movie — but that’s unlikely to happen after such disappointing sales!”

Goldberg has penned several books, including her memoirs. One of the most notable was titled “Book,” released in 1997. In this book, she discussed her life, her views on various issues, and her career in show business, providing readers with a glimpse into her unique perspective and personality. Her new memoir pays tribute to her late mother, Emma, and her brother, Clyde, emphasizing the pivotal roles they played in her journey from Caryn Johnson to the celebrated personality, Whoopi Goldberg

While Goldberg’s memoir’s underperformance might disappoint, her role on “The View” often showcases the more contentious side of her persona. Earlier in the week, the iconic liberal compared Joe Biden to an invalid nursing home patient, saying even if he “pooped his pants” he would still fare better in the world’s most demanding job than his opponent.

“I’m just going to have my two cents because I wasn’t here on the day that y’all talked about it. I don’t care if he’s pooped his pants. I don’t care if he can’t put a sentence together. Show me he can’t do the job, and then I’ll say, okay, maybe it’s time to go,” Goldberg said regarding the recent media spotlight on Biden’s mental acuity.

WATCH:

“Now, he had a bad night the first time that he went out and debated with Kamala Harris, and everybody wanted him to quit that and say, ‘You can’t talk to women like this. Are you doing this wrong? You’re doing that wrong.’ He came back and said, ‘You know what? I got it’ and gave four years. So, yeah, I have poopy days all the time, all that I step in so much poo you can’t even imagine.”

Goldberg has been a major figure in the entertainment industry since the early 1980s. She achieved international fame with her role in the 1985 film “The Color Purple,” for which she received a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination. She later won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 1990 film “Ghost.”

REPORT: Beloved ‘Conservative’ Company Goes Woke, Betrays Rural Base thumbnail

REPORT: Beloved ‘Conservative’ Company Goes Woke, Betrays Rural Base

The New Atlantis

Over the past few weeks, conservative consumers shifted their ire from Bud Light and Target towards Chick-fil-A and Tractor Supply for their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. Now, it’s John Deere, another company deeply rooted in America’s rural communities, that has come under the microscope for similar reasons. The company, traditionally celebrated for its commitment to these communities, has implemented DEI initiatives that have sparked major backlash from its conservative base.

John Deere, known for its iconic green tractors and a long-standing symbol of American agricultural prowess, has taken actions that have left many in its base feeling betrayed. The company has embraced several DEI initiatives, sparking a backlash among a significant portion of its customer base. The unrest began when a video by influencer Robby Starbuck went viral, exposing the company’s “woke” policies.

According to Starbuck, these include sponsoring a Pride event aimed at young children, implementing gender identity training, and encouraging employees to use preferred pronouns in all communications. The company has also been highlighted for its high score on the Corporate Equality Index by the Human Rights Campaign, fueling the discontent among its base.

Starbuck’s report detailed a list of grievances, from the sponsorship of events and trainings that promote concepts many find controversial, to changes in corporate culture that seem to prioritize identity politics over traditional business practices. He noted, “John Deere has been one of the most beloved brands by conservative farmers but recently on CEO John May’s watch, they’ve gone woke.”

WATCH:

These initiatives include funding a pride event for children as young as three, implementing “Genderbread Man” training to discuss gender fluidity, and encouraging employees to list their preferred pronouns in all communications. Additionally, the company has participated in programs like United Way’s 21-day “United For Equity” challenge, which promotes works by authors such as Ibram Kendi and encourages engagement with topics many find controversial.

These DEI initiatives also include the celebration of their accounting and finance team completing the “United For Equity” program, which endorses materials that some argue promote an anti-capitalist and racially divisive agenda. All of this is compounded by the company’s recent decision to lay off U.S. workers and shift production to Mexico.

The John Deere diversity page reads: “We encourage employees to use their personal pronouns (such as he/him/his, she/her/hers, they/them/theirs) in internal and external communications, including email correspondence and email signatures.”

“Not only is this a sign of mutual respect, it’s practical for our global company. With employees and customers on six continents, sharing our pronouns and respecting one another’s helps foster a sense of belonging for all, since the use of gendered nouns varies across cultures and individuals,” their website states.

John Deere is not the only company to face the noise as of late. In late June, Tractor Supply Company, the national retailer of farm supplies, had to issue a sweeping apology to its customer base after facing a storm of criticism over its DEI initiatives. The company announced it will also cease sponsoring non-business-related events like pride festivals and voting campaigns. Additionally, Tractor Supply is shifting its environmental focus from carbon emission targets to land and water conservation efforts.
