Applicants who file individually can receive up to $943 per month, couples filing jointly can receive up to $1,415, and essential persons, those who provide SSI recipients with necessary care, receive up to $472. Inflation has caused these amounts to increase by 3.2% since last year.

People involved in extraditing Americans from Afghanistan after the Biden-Harris administration’s withdrawal connected Vice President Kamala Harris’s role with the outcome.

Chad Robichaux, author and former Force Recon Marine, led an effort to extract over 17,000 people from Afghanistan following the country’s falling to Taliban rule, according to his website. Referring to Harris’s claim that she was the “last person in the room” with President Joe Biden before he ordered the withdrawal, Robichaux said she was an integral player in the ensuing disaster.

“Kamala can’t detach herself from the catastrophic Afghanistan withdrawal,” he said. “She was the vice president, the last person in the room with the president during decision time, and she has had three years … including the last weeks of her candidacy to speak up. “

“If she wasn’t responsible as Vice President then speak up, apologize to the families of our 13, apologize to our Afghanistan veterans, intervene on behalf of our abandoned allies and the 20 million woman and little girls left sexually enslaved,” he continued. “She won’t … because she was complicit and has blood on her hands.”

Benghazi contractor Mark Geist, who rescued over 100 Americans from Afghanistan, said the results of the withdrawal fall squarely on Harris, alongside Biden.

“The botched Afghan withdrawal isn’t a failure that can be overlooked or forgotten it’s a stain on American history. I personally had to step in and help rescue over 100 Americans, an effort that should have been managed by our government, not left to private citizens,” he said.

“The withdrawal, which led to the abandonment of thousands of Americans and our allies and the loss of 13 lives at Abbey Gate, doesn’t just fall on Biden, it falls on Harris too, regardless of when she walked into the room,” Geist continued. “Her involvement in these decisions shows a clear pattern of poor judgment and failed leadership, putting both our country and our military at risk.”

Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL), himself a veteran, also pinned the blame for the withdrawal on Harris.

“Kamala Harris is trying to distance herself from Joe Biden’s biggest failure as president, the botched Afghan pullout, by saying she was the last one in the room,” he said. “But she has just as much blood on her hands as Biden.”

After receiving criticism for her harsh approach at a previous interaction Thursday, Harris tried a different approach, acknowledging the need for a ceasefire.

“We are all in here together, I’m told an extraordinary number of people, because we love our country; we’re here to fight for our democracy,” Harris said, followed by cheers from the crowd.

“Which includes respecting the voices that I think that we are hearing from. And let me just say this, on the topic of what I think I’m hearing from over there. … So let me say: I have been clear now is the time to get a ceasefire deal and get the hostage deal done. Now is the time,” she continued.

“The president and I are working around the clock every day to get that ceasefire deal done and bring the hostages home. So I respect your voices but we are here to now talk about this race in 2024,” the vice president concluded, resuming her stump speech.

A federal court extended the block on President Joe Biden’s Saving on a Valuable Education student loan forgiveness plan.

The St. Louis-based 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals extended the block it granted in July upon the request of the attorneys general of several Republican-led states.

According to Reuters, the three-judge panel said the Republican-led states “cannot turn back the clock on any loans that have already been forgiven.”

The decision was celebrated by Republican Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, who was behind the original block.

“A MASSIVE win for every American who won’t be saddled with someone else’s Ivy League debt,” Bailey said.

The latest iteration of Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan aimed to forgive millions of borrowers who earn a low income. Around 8 million have enrolled in the program since last year.

The SAVE program lowers monthly payments for low-income borrowers and allows the debt forgiveness of those whose original balances were $12,000 or less after 10 years.

Republicans have long opposed Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan, arguing that it harms taxpayers who didn’t go to college, as well as those who have already paid off their debts.

State Secretary Antony Blinken told Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant the United States was ending its investigation into a controversial IDF battalion without sanctions.

The IDF’s 97th Netzah Yehuda Battalion was accused of abuses against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank in a period before Oct. 7. The U.S. announced it would be sanctioning the unit over the alleged abuses in April before quickly backtracking a week later to continue the investigation amid strong criticism. The saga seemingly concluded Friday when Blinken announced its end, according to a report from Axios.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told the outlet the decision was made after Israeli authorities presented evidence showing that steps were taken to ensure that abuses by IDF soldiers and the unit specifically were remediated.

“As we made public in April, the Department of State found after a careful review that incidents of gross violations of human rights by two units of the Israeli Defense Forces and two civilian authority units had been effectively remediated,” Miller said.

“The Department has for the past several months continued to review an additional unit to evaluate new information provided by the Government of Israel,” he continued. “After thoroughly reviewing that information, we have determined that violations by this unit have also been effectively remediated. Consistent with the Leahy process, this unit can continue receiving security assistance from the United States of America.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to the State Department for comment.

The alleged crimes that originally caused the unit to be targeted for sanctions were committed before Oct. 7 and took place in the West Bank, unrelated to the conflict with Hamas.

Among the human rights abuses cited was its involvement in the death of elderly Palestinian-American Omar Assad, who died after he was handcuffed, gagged, and forced to lie on his stomach for an extended period. Israel launched an investigation into the incident but decided against pursuing criminal charges against anyone involved, choosing only to “reprimand” one of the commanders.

The battalion is made up of ultra-Orthodox Jews with an emphasis on accommodating their religious practices. Following the low enlistment rates among ultra-Orthodox Jews, the battalion recently began to accept far-right youth who were rejected from other combat units. It has not been involved in active combat operations in Gaza.

Gallant was quick to undercut the justification for sanctions against the unit shortly after the original sanctions were announced, portraying the move as an attack against the entire IDF.

“Harming one battalion is damage to the entire IDF — this is not the way to behave with partners and friends,” Gallant said. “[T]his could be a cry for generations and open a dangerous door for this type of action.”

The sanctions against the unit would prohibit it from receiving any U.S. military aid, participating in activities receiving U.S. funding, and taking part in training with the U.S. military.

The Biden-Harris administration has sought to balance its own support for Israel with the concerns of left-wing voters, who allege Israel is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip. So far, they have been outraged at the administration’s handling of the war, and many are threatening to withhold their votes in November if changes are not made.

The U.S. announced it would be sanctioning the unit over the alleged abuses in April before quickly backtracking a week later to continue the investigation amid strong criticism. The saga seemingly concluded Friday when Blinken announced its end, according to a report from Axios. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told the outlet the decision was made after Israeli authorities presented evidence showing that steps were taken to ensure that abuses by IDF soldiers and the unit specifically were remediated. “As we made public in April, the Department of State found after a careful review that incidents of gross violations of human rights by two units of the Israeli Defense Forces and two civilian authority units had been effectively remediated,” Miller said. “The Department has for the past several months continued to review an additional unit to evaluate new information provided by the Government of Israel,” he continued. “After thoroughly reviewing that information, we have determined that violations by this unit have also been effectively remediated.
