U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is attempting to double down after she falsely accused Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief Lee Zeldin and several House Republicans of taking donations from notorious sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Despite being caught in the lie, Crockett is now attempting to claim it never happened.
Crockett made the mind-boggling comments while attempting to defend Delegate Stacey Plaskett, the non-voting Democrat representative from the U.S. Virgin Islands, from censure. Plaskett maintained a close relationship with Epstein long after his sex crimes conviction and even consulted him for advice during a congressional hearing in 2019.
“Folks who also took money from somebody named Jeffrey Epstein, as I had my team dig in very quickly: Mitt Romney, the NRCC, Lee Zeldin, George Bush, WinRed, McCain-Palin, Rick Lazio,” Crockett barked on the House floor on Wednesday. Crockett cited Federal Election Commission (FEC) records her team had “dug into very quickly” as the basis for her claims, framing it as evidence of selective outrage over Epstein ties.
Despite Crockett’s claims, the FEC records in question pertained to a different Jeffrey Epstein. For example, one of the donations Zeldin’s campaign her team cited was made after the infamous pedophile’s death.
After intense backlash, Crockett attempted to make a head-scratching deflection in which she claimed she was referring to a different Jeffrey Epstein when pressed on the issue by CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.
“Listen, I never said that it was that Jeffrey Epstein,” the congresswoman told Collins before being given a chance to correct the record.
“Just so that people understand, when you make a donation, your picture is not there. And because they decided to spring this on us, in real time, I wanted the Republicans to think about what could potentially happen, because I knew that they didn’t even try to go through the [Federal Election Commission].”
The far-left lawmaker then doubled down on her deflecton by brazenly attempting to blame her false statements on the Republican Party.
“So my team, what they did is they Googled, and that is specifically why I said a Jeffrey Epstein. Unlike Republicans, I at least don’t go out and just tell lies,” she told Collins. “Because it was not the same one? That’s fine. But when Lee Zeldin had something to say, all he had to say was, it was a different Jeffrey Epstein. He admitted that he did receive donations from a Jeffrey Epstein. So, at least I wasn’t trying to mislead people,” Crockett rambled. “I literally had maybe 20 minutes before I had to do that debate.”

Zeldin, who previously served in Congress, was quick to point out the flaws in the Texas lawmaker’s claims immediately after they were made. “Yes Crockett, a physician named Dr. Jeffrey Epstein (who is a totally different person than the other Jeffrey Epstein) donated to a prior campaign of mine,” Zeldin posted on X. “NO FREAKIN RELATION YOU GENIUS!!!”
Despite being proven wrong, Crockett continued with her attempt to sow doubt on Wednesday night. “Have I dug in to find out who this doctor is? I have not, so I will trust and take what he says that it wasn’t that Jeffrey Epstein. But I was not attempting to mislead anybody,” she claimed.
The House narrowly voted to shield Plaskett from censure and investigation on Wednesday after a handful of Republican lawmakers voted present. A handful of Florida lawmakers have claimed the vote was part of a “backroom deal” to save scandal-plagued Rep. Cory Mills from his own censure.
