Former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was reportedly stabbed Saturday morning in Indianapolis and was hospitalized with “critical injuries,” according to a report from TMZ.

Sanchez, 38, was in town to call the Indianapolis Colts’ game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday as part of the Fox broadcasting crew.

While the circumstances of the incident are largely unclear as of this report, TMZ reported that police were called around 12:30 a.m. local time regarding two injured people. He was then rushed to a local hospital and was initially described as being in “critical” condition after suffering “severe” injuries, TMZ reported.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a “disturbance in an alley” call shortly after midnight, where they encountered one person who had been stabbed and another who suffered unknown injuries outside a pub near West Washington Street and North Senate Avenue, local outlet WTHR.

A suspect was taken into custody in connection with the incident, the outlet reported.

After news of the story broke, Fox Sports issued a statement indicating that Sanchez’s condition had been upgraded to “stable.”

“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time,” the network said.

Sanchez played college football at the University of Southern California before being selected by the New York Jets with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the clubs before short stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins.

The quarterback retired in 2019 and soon transitioned into a broadcasting role with ESPN, where he mostly covered college football. In 2021, Sanchez moved to Fox Sports, where he calls games for the network and appears on FS1 studio shows.
