Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports in-game analyst Mark Sanchez, 38, has been arrested for battery with injury after he was reportedly stabbed and hospitalized in Indianapolis early Saturday morning.

Sanchez was also arrested for unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all of which are misdemeanors. Authorities said the former New York Jet remains hospitalized in stable condition.

“The incident involved two adult males, resulting in one man receiving lacerations and the other sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds. Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence,” the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced in a press release.

Sanchez was in-town to call the Indianapolis Colts game on Sunday as part of the Fox Sports in-game crew. Authorities confirmed that the other individual was also not from Indianapolis.

The case will be presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision, the press release added.

“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support,” Fox Sports said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

TMZ first reported Saturday that Sanchez had been rushed to the hospital after suffering “severe” injuries and was initially listed in critical condition.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a “disturbance in an alley” call shortly after midnight, where they encountered one person who had been stabbed and another who suffered unknown injuries outside a pub near West Washington Street and North Senate Avenue, according to local outlet WTHR.

Sanchez played college football at the University of Southern California before being selected by the New York Jets with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the clubs before short stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins.

The quarterback retired in 2019 and soon transitioned into a broadcasting role with ESPN, where he mostly covered college football. In 2021, Sanchez moved to Fox Sports, where he calls games for the network and appears on FS1 studio shows.
