Trump to address Knesset, attend Middle East peace ceremony in Egypt

President Trump on Monday is set to address Israel’s legislature, the Knesset, and attend a Middle East peace ceremony in Egypt following a potential deal between Israel and Hamas to end the war in Gaza.

Trump’s Knesset address is set for 11:00 a.m. local time, a little under two hours after he is expected to reach Tel Aviv. From there, Trump will head to Egypt in the afternoon and be a part of the peace ceremony at 2:30 p.m. local time in the coastal resort area of Sharm-el-Sheikh.

Last Wednesday, Trump announced Israel and Hamas had both reached an agreement to release the remaining Israeli hostages and stop the fighting in Gaza.

The president said Israel and Hamas had backed “the first Phase” of a peace plan announced in late September, a notable reprieve to stop a war that had gone on for over two years since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. The attack killed around 1,200 people and over 250 hostages were taken.

“This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly!” Trump said on Truth Social.

“This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”

Israel’s war in Gaza has also killed thousands of Palestinians, left the territory in a humanitarian crisis and resulted in mass infrastructure destruction. International pressure had recently mounted on Israel to end the war as the humanitarian crisis grew worse.
