President Donald Trump on Friday rescinded his endorsement of U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and vowed to spearhead a primary challenge against her after weeks of counter-signaling and negative comments about the administration and the president’s agenda.
Rep. Greene has been in the midst of an ongoing media tour in which she has trashed the Trump Adminsitration and the president himself. While speaking with comic podcast host Tim Dillion last month, the congresswoman trashed the president’s immigration agenda and suggested that too many illegals are being deported.
Greene — who holds an ownership stake in a successful construction company — has long issued an unclear view on so-called skilled immigration, including the H1-B visa abuse issue. Following the Christmas Day, 2024 blow-up on the issue that pitted Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy and others against the pro-Trump right, Greene issued a “both sides” perspective in which she stated she understood the balance between hiring truly-skilled workers and unfettered illegal alien burden on the American workforce.
“I am withdrawing my support and Endorsement of “Congresswoman” Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the Great State of Georgia. Over the past few weeks, despite my creating Record Achievements for our Country including, a Total and Complete Victory on the Shutdown, Closed Borders, Low Taxes, No Men in Women’s Sports or Transgender for Everyone, ending DEI, stopping Biden’s Record Setting Inflation, Biggest Regulation Cuts in History, stopping EIGHT WARS, rebuilding our Military, being RESPECTED by every Country in the World (as opposed to being the laughingstock that we were just 12 months ago!), having Trillions of Dollars (Record Setting!) INVESTED in the U.S.A., and having created the “HOTTEST” Country anywhere in the World from being a DEAD Country just 12 months ago (and so much more!), all I see “Wacky” Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!” The president posted on Truth Social.
He went on to suggest that the rift started when he refused to endorse Greene’s bid for U.S. Senate in the state of Georgia. While Greene, until her recent shift, had long been a big supporter of the Trump agenda, she had largely appealed mostly to conservatives and lacked statewide appeal.
This presented challenges for the all important Senate race in Georgia, where incumbent officeholder Jon Ossoff, a Democrat, is attempting to hold on.
”It seemed to all begin when I sent her a Poll stating that she should not run for Senator, or Governor, she was at 12%, and didn’t have a chance (unless, of course, she had my Endorsement — which she wasn’t about to get!). She has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting Lunatic’s call every day,” Trump wrote.
”I understand that wonderful, Conservative people are thinking about primarying Marjorie in her District of Georgia, that they too are fed up with her and her antics and, if the right person runs, they will have my Complete and Unyielding Support. She has gone Far Left, even doing The View, with their Low IQ Republican hating Anchors. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Greene responded by accusing Trump of being in the “Epstein files” and claiming that she never called him. She did so by sharing a text message to the president in which she lectured him about Epstein — repeatedly stating that Democrat-led efforts to attack him are a hoax — before accusing him of being in the “files” hours later.
She also shared a lengthy reply to an individual named “Natalie” while seemingly claiming the message was sent to President Trump.
The split comes after Greene had embarked on a lengthy media tour in which she trashed the Trump agenda on several left-wing outlets. The congresswoman has repeatedly attacked Trump and the Republican Party on the economy, healthcare, and mass deportations while appearing on outlets like CNN.
