President Donald Trump on Saturday indicated that he would be open to mending the fence with U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) after the congresswoman abruptly announced that she would be resigning from congress on Friday night.

Greene, who was first elected in 2020, announced in a 10-minute video statement that she will be resigning from congress effective January 5. The move follows weeks of mounting tension between the congresswoman and the White House, which began in earnest when she took an adversarial position against both Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) while appearing on left-wing networks and shows.

Among other things, the congresswoman criticized Trump’s deportation strategy, backed Democrat talking points on the government shutdown, and suggested that Trump was prioritizing “foreign countries” over the American people.

The president had harsh words for his once close ally in a Truth Social post on Saturday morning, referring to her as “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown,” his new nickname for Greene since “grass turns brown when it begins to rot.”

The president went on to insinuate that Greene “went bad” when he refused to answer her phone calls and unsolicited advice. He did, however, end the post on a positive note in which he thanked Greene for being a loyal ally throughout the majority of her congressional career.

“Nevertheless, I will always appreciate Marjorie, and thank her for her service to our Country!”

While taking questions from reporters while heading to Andrews Air Force Base, the president was asked whether he would be open to repairing his relationship with the outgoing congresswoman. “Before you had a fight with Elon Musk but you were able to work it out,” the reporter asked, at which point Trump interjected with “I get along with everybody.”

The reporter continued, “Do you see the same thing happening between you and Marjorie Taylor Greene?”

Trump answered in the affirmative. “Sure, why not. I mean, I get along with everybody.”

President Trump and tech entrepreneur Elon Musk had a high-profile falling out this past summer that saw intense insults traded on both sides after months of working closely together. Musk ultimately threatened to start a third party, but ultimately balked at the idea.

The two have since mended the fence, as evidenced by Musk’s presence at a Mar-A-Lago dinner attended by tech leaders earlier this month.

In her video announcement, Greene took subtle jabs at the president by calling the primary challenge threat “unnecessary” and divisive for the pro-Trump base. She did, however, state that she is a supporter of the president’s agenda and noted that she introduced multiple bills to codify his agenda.

Greene’s future plans are unclear as of this report.
