Bizarre details about the stabbing and arrest of ESPN analyst Mark Sanchez continued to emerge on Monday with the announcement of video evidence showing him in a bloody dustup with a trucker.
The former NFL star is facing up to six years in prison for what police say was a booze-fueled brawl with a truck driver on Sunday, the cause of which is still under investigation.
Sanchez was arrested on Sunday and charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
Photos obtained by local outlets, as well as court records, which describe the victim only by his initials P.T., show him lying in a hospital bed, covered in blood and wearing a neck brace with a giant gash across his face. Doctors say the wound went through the 69-year-old’s cheek and into his tongue.
Prosecutors upgraded the charges against Sanchez to level 5 felony battery after seeing the extent of physical injuries suffered by the victim, who was running his route on Saturday to collect kitchen grease from several restaurants when crossing paths with the former NFL quarterback.
The man parked his truck near the loading dock in an alley behind Loughmiller’s Pub & Eatery in Indianapolis, a decision that appeared to upset Sanchez, according to security footage of the fight.
While the alleyway footage authorities have cited in their reports remains unreleased, The New York Post obtained footage showing Sanchez stumbling away after the bloody scrap.

Sanchez could be seen grabbing the man and throwing him into a dumpster in unreleased footage of the incident, the police report says. Seconds later, the trucker emerges with a knife and stabs Sanchez several times in the chest, testifying later he did so because he feared “this guy is trying to kill me.”
Sanchez was rushed to the hospital for his own injuries and later released, the Daily Mail reported.
“P. T. realized things had escalated, and he was now in physical danger, so he reached into his pocket and grabbed his pepper spray and sprayed Mr. Sanchez in the face. P. T. said that the pepper spray appeared to have an effect on Mr. Sanchez for a moment, but Mr. Sanchez wiped his face and again advanced towards P. T. P. T. thought ‘this guy is trying to kill me’ so he pulled his knife and when Mr. Sanchez came at him, P. T. went at Mr. Sanchez and struck him two or three times with the knife. P. T. said he found himself flying back into the dumpster and falling onto the pallets on the ground,” the indictment states.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears filed additional charges against Sanchez after receiving a probable cause affidavit on Monday.
“With that additional information, we have added more serious charges against Mr. Sanchez,” Mears confirmed during a press briefing.
“At this point in time, we have filed a felony charge – a level-5 felony – of battery involving seriously bodily injury which contains a penalty of one to six years.”
Mears insisted that the investigation is still in its preliminary stages and that a “number of search warrants” outstanding are “tracking down additional information” about the assault.
