Conservative journalist Nick Sortor revealed that “higher-ups” in the bleu stronghold of Portland wanted to hit him with additional charges following his already controversial arrest in the city on October 2.
Sortor, who runs a popular newswire page on X and covers breaking news events on the ground, was arrested by the Portland Police Bureau while covering the ongoing nightly protests outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in downtown Portland.
Sortor was filming protesters, including black-bloc Antifa militants, as they burned an American flag, started other fires and threatened he and other on-the-ground journalists. He was later taken into custody after he was surrounded by a mob of far-left rioters, some of whom damaged his equipment and ultimately assaulted him. Despite the circumstances of the attack, Sortor was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct.
On-the-ground reporter Katie Daviscourt reported that the far-left mob instigated the assault. One woman, identified as Son Mi Yi, allegedly pushed the conservative reporter with an open umbrella.
Sortor was detained for about 12-24 hours at Multnomah County Detention Center. He was released without bond on October 3 morning and immediately posted on X: “Hey, Portland Police: you made a big freaking mistake.”
He accused the department of targeting him for his conservative views and refusing to inform him of his alleged offense for several hours.
Just a day before the incident, Daviscourt — who has consistently documented far-left and Antifa violence in Portland, Seattle and other cities — was assaulted with a metal poll. The incident was captured on camera, though the perpetrator was not arrested despite the fact that an officer was standing just feet away.

On Monday, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office dropped all charges against Sortor, stating that there was insufficient evidence to suggest he committed any crime.
After a careful review of the investigation, including reports and video, we do not believe the crime of Disorderly Conduct can be proven against Mr. Sortor beyond a reasonable doubt,” the press release said. “The two other individuals arrested for Disorderly Conduct October 2nd have been charged.”
The statement continued, “We greatly appreciate the efforts of the Portland Police Bureau to manage the situation near the ICE building during this time of political unrest. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s office remains committed to a fair and impartial administration of justice.”
While speaking with Fox News’ Jesse Watters, Sortor revealed that “higher ups” within the DA’s office wanted to hit him with additional charges, but were ultimately overruled.
“We’re trying to figure out who gave the order, because the police that actually arrested me had no idea what was going on! It took them almost an hour to find out what my charges even were,” the conservative reporter said. He added that he does not know who the identify of the official who gave the order.
“The day that I get there, a conservative media personality with a camera, I’m the one that gets arrested. And even the DA out there is saying that I should have never been arrested,” Sortor said of his controversial arrest.
“Something stinks out there in Portland. I went out there to expose the police department and the fact that they’re allowing their city to turn into a terrorist hellhole almost, but run by Antifa. And they made my job a hell of a lot easier by arresting me, because they’ve exposed themselves,” the conservative journalist went on to declare.
