Biden Aides Accidentally Reveal Biden May Have ‘Sundowning’ Disorder

The New Atlantis

White House aides have raised a number of troubling concerns with President Biden’s cognitive abilities, as well as his capability to carry out his duties for another four years, according to a report from Axios.

White House aides have “seen flashes of an absent-minded Biden, but typically brush them off as ordinary brain farts because they usually see him engaged,” Axios reported after speaking to eight current and former Biden Administration aides.

The fallout from Thursday night’s debate is taking an effect on some aides, however, some of whom are questioning whether the president can continue to function. Others are more optimistic that things can be turned around, though Biden’s staff is more or less in agreement that the president’s frequent freeze-ups, slurred words, and wide-eyed facial expressions resulted in a poor night for the campaign.

“Some campaign aides projected calm Friday and framed the debate as just a bad night that they’d recover from. Other Biden aides, donors and senior Democrats were deeply shaken, as Trump and other crowing Republicans questioned his fitness for office,” Axios reported.

(VOTE NOW: Did TRUMP or BIDEN Win The First Debate?)

“Beyond the politics of whether Biden can beat Trump again, the aides expressed new worries about whether the president can carry out his duties through another four-year term.”

While the report noted that Biden’s rally in North Carolina on Friday — which still featured freeze-ups and blank stares — has calmed some staff members, the report went on to make a stunning revelation about the symptoms of Biden’s cognitive decline.

“The time of day is important as to which of the two Bidens will appear,” Axios reported after speaking with White House staff. “From 10am to 4pm, Biden is dependably engaged — and many of his public events in front of cameras are held within those hours.”

“Outside of that time range or while traveling abroad, Biden is more likely to have verbal miscues and become fatigued,” aides told the outlet.

Thursday’s 90-minute debate began at 9 p.m. eastern time.

Increased confusion and cognitive decline in evening and nighttime hours is a common symptom of Alzheimer’s and Dementia known as “sundowning.”

“Sundowning is increased confusion that people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia may experience from dusk through night,” reads a description from the Alzheimer’s Association website. “Also called ‘sundowner’s syndrome,’ it is not a disease but a set of symptoms or dementia-related behaviors that may include difficulty sleeping, anxiety, agitation, hallucinations, pacing and disorientation. Although the exact cause is unknown, sundowning may occur due to disease progression and changes in the brain.”

Campaign aides were confident that President Biden was prepared for Thursday’s debate and felt he would do well. “Some of the close-knit Biden aides who prepped him for the debate told confidantes they were optimistic beforehand, and that he’d done well in their practice sessions,” Axios reported.

While the campaign is in agreement that the debate was a disaster, there are varying opinions on the extent of the damage. Holding the debate early was meant to provide Biden with a boost in the polls, not set him back, though some elements of the campaign remain confident that they can turn the tide.

WATCH: Van Jones Almost Starts Crying After Joe Biden’s Awful Debate Performance

The New Atlantis

Former Obama White House advisor and current CNN analyst Van Jones was on the verge of tears when reacting to President Biden’s disastrous debate performance on Thursday night.

“That was painful,” Jones told his fellow panelists without hesitation. “I love Joe Biden, I worked for Joe Biden. He didn’t do well at all. He did not do well at all.”

Jones went on to comment on Biden’s advanced age, saying ” he looked… I’ll give you the analysis, kind of the old man versus the con man.”

(VOTE NOW: Did TRUMP or BIDEN Win The First Debate?)

Jones then appeared to be on the verge of tears when analyzing the debate that saw multiple freeze-ups and incoherent ramblings from Biden. “He loves his country. He’s doing the best that he can. But he had a test to meet tonight to restore confidence of the country and of the base, and he failed to do that,” he said.

In a shocking turn of events, Jones then suggested that Biden should consider dropping out of the race. “And I think there’s a lot of people who are going to want to see him consider taking a different course now,” Jones said of his former boss. “We’re still far from our convention. And there is time for this party to figure out a different way forward if he will allow us to do this.”

Jones’ co-panelist Peter King reported that a number of Democrats are already considering the possibility of replacing Biden after the performance. Just minutes into the debate — after Biden took the stage with a raspy voice and struggled to complete sentences — Democrat strategists, elected officials and fundraisers were already sounding alarm bells.

“They’re having conversations about the president’s performance, which they think was dismal, which they think will hurt other people down the party in the ticket, and having conversations about what they should do about it,” King reported.

“Some of those conversations include whether we should go to the White House and ask the president to step aside,” King continued. The discussion within the party suggests that some members believe it might be necessary for prominent Democrats to publicly call for Biden to reconsider his campaign.”

Thursday’s debate was the first of two debates agreed upon by both campaigns. The second debate, which is set to be hosted by ABC News, will take place in September. Trump has agreed to at least two additional debates, though the Biden campaign has declined.

WATCH: Trump Struggles To Contain His Laughter After Biden Claims He Could Beat Him In Golf

Former President Donald Trump found himself in a hilarious back-and-forth with President Biden over their respective golf ability during Thursday night’s opening presidential debate.

While answering a question about his age, the former president stated that he feels as good as he did 20 years ago. He added that he has “aced” multiple cognitive tests in recent years before asking Biden to do the same.

Continuing to speak about his physical fitness, Trump pointed to his recent victories in Palm Beach golf tournaments. “It’s not even senior, two regular club championships to do that you have to be quite smart, and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way, and I do,” Trump bragged.

“He doesn’t do it, he can’t hit a ball fifty yards,” the former president continued while pointing at Biden. “He challenged me to a golf match he can hit a ball fifty yards.”

Biden then claimed that he got his golf handicap down to six while serving as vice president before claiming he could beat Trump in a round of golf. “I told you before I’m happy to play golf if you carry your own bag,” Biden said, drawing a smirk from Trump.

Trump Confronts Biden Over January 6 Prosecutions: ‘You Should Be Ashamed Of Yourself’

The New Atlantis

Former President Trump told President Biden that he should be “ashamed of himself” over the ruthless, one-sided January 6 prosecutions during Thursday night’s presidential debate.

When asked how he would respond to voters who claim that he “violated his oath of office” on January 6, Trump pointed to the fact that he authorized National Guard personnel to be deployed on January 6, something that has been confirmed by a number of National Guard whistleblowers.

Well, I didn’t say that to anybody. I said peacefully and patriotically. And Nancy Pelosi, if you just watched the news from two days ago, on tape to her daughter, who is a documentary filmmaker, they say. But she’s saying, oh, no, it’s my responsibility. I was responsible for this because I offered her 10,000 soldiers or National Guard and she turned them down,” Trump said, pointing to a recent video in which then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) claimed responsibility for January 6.

(VOTE NOW: Did TRUMP or BIDEN Win The First Debate?)

More than three years after the January 6 protests, the Biden DOJ continues to hunt down and arrest January 6 protesters for predominantly non-violent crimes. More than 1,400 Americans have been charged, while the DOJ has stated that more than 2,000 cases could be brought by the time statutes of limitations expire.

While January 6 protesters are raided by armed FBI tactical teams, shackled and thrown in prison, the Biden DOJ has employed no such standard for violent BLM and Antifa rioters who ransacked downtown D.C. for days in 2020. Not one person who stormed the White House and forced former President Donald Trump into a secure bunker in June 2020 was ever charged.

Biden has also repeatedly advanced the lie that Capitol Police officers were murdered by the pro-Trump crowd on January 6. “Over 140 police officers were injured. Jill and I attended the funeral of police officers who died as a result of the events of that day because Donald Trump’s lies,” the president said in a dark speech on the three-year anniversary of the protests.

Numerous Democrat leaders and officials, including President Biden, have repeated the false claim that Capitol Police officers were murdered by the crowd on January 6. Officer Brian Sicknick passed away in the days following the protests, though the cause of death was determined to be natural causes.

This did not stop mainstream media outlets and Democrat leaders from spreading a lie that Sicknick was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher, however. President Biden and the First Lady did attend Sicknick’s funeral and attributed his death to the protesters.

Biden once again repeated the lie during Thursday’s debate by claiming that the crowd killed police officers.

“Look, he encouraged those folks to go up there on Capitol Hill,” Biden said. “I sat in the dining room off the Oval Office. He sat there for three hours, three hours watching, begging, being begged by his vice president and a number of his colleagues on the Republican side as well to do something, to call for a stop, to end it. Instead, he talked about these people being patriots and great patrons of America.”

Biden also repeated the “bloodbath hoax” by claiming that Trump has promised a “bloodbath” if he loses the election in November. The thoroughly debunked quote stems from a rally where Trump promised a “bloodbath” for the auto industry if Biden wins.

Former President Donald Trump delivered a brutal response to a rambling statement from President Joe Biden during Thursday’s opening presidential debate, telling his rival that he “doesn’t even know what he said.”

After Biden delivered a rambling response — at times freezing up and stuttering — on a question about immigration, Trump took a brief second to stare before saying, “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence and I don’t think he knows what he said either.”

Biden claimed that he is committed to securing the southern border, an issue he has consistently found himself under water on according to months of polling data.

(VOTE NOW: Did TRUMP or BIDEN Win The First Debate?)

Immediately after taking office in January, 2021, Biden immediately rolled back a number of immigration executive orders signed by Trump. The most notable Trump policy Biden opted to axe was “Remain In Mexico,” which required asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their asylum claims are being processed. Instead, the Biden Administration has rapidly expanded the use of parole programs that lead to illegal aliens being transported to communities of their choosing across the United States.

The lenient border policies have led to record-setting illegal immigration levels in both 2022 and 2023, with illegal aliens traveling to the United States from Africa, the Middle East, China and South America. International asylum law requires asylum seekers to apply in the first “safe” country they come across, though the Biden Administration has been granting asylum claims to illegal aliens who pass through dozens of countries before entering the country.

In total, the Biden Administration has released more than 6.2 million illegal aliens into the United States. This figure does not include “gotaways,” a Border Patrol term for illegal aliens who manage to evade border security and sneak into the country.

In Trump’s response to the same question, the former president pointed to the massive spikes in illegal immigration under his successor, as well as a massive increase in illegal alien crime. One particular incident singled out by Trump was the murder of Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl who was raped and murder by two illegal aliens from Venezuela last week.

We had the safest border in the history of our country. The border, all he had to do was leave it,” Trump said of Biden. “All he had to do was leave it. He decided to open up our border, open up our country to people that are from prisons. People that are from mental institutions, insane asylum. Terrorists, we have the largest number of terrorists coming into our country right now.”

Americans were stunned by President Biden’s opening statement at the first presidential debate of the 2024 campaign on Thursday.

From the moment Biden started speaking, the president sounded worn out and spoke with a raspy voice. He proceeded to deliver a rambling speech on the state of the economy while trashing his predecessor’s economic record.

The president’s answer to a question on the economy was widely inaudible, though he attempted to claim that former President Trump’s economic record was disastrous due to his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. As Biden struggled to get words out and briefly attempted to clear his throat, Trump shot him a concerned look before cracking a smirk.

Just moments later, Biden froze up while answering a question about the national debt. After stuttering for about seven seconds, debate co-moderator Jake Tapper was forced to interject and inform the president that his time had expired. “Thank you, Mr. President,” Tapper said while receiving a blank, wide-eyed stare from Biden.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper pressed Vice President Harris over President Biden’s horrific debate performance on Thursday night. Cooper pointed to a report from CNN’s John King, who revealed that Democrat lawmakers and strategists are mulling whether to pressure Biden to step down, and asked the vice president if she would support such a move.

“Some within your own party are wondering if President Biden should even step aside. What do you say to that?” Cooper asked. Harris did not answer the question and instead attempted to hype up President Biden’s performance.

Listen, first of all, what we saw tonight is the president making a very clear contrast with Donald Trump on all of the issues that matter to the American people. Yes, there was a slow start, but it was a strong finish. And what became very clear through the course of the night is that Joe Biden is fighting on behalf of the American people, on substance, on policy, on performance,” she said. “Joe Biden is extraordinarily strong. And that cannot be debated.”

(VOTE NOW: Did TRUMP or BIDEN Win The First Debate?)

A seemingly frustrated Cooper pushed back by pointing out that a number of Democrats have publicly and privately expressed concern over President Biden’s abilities after the debate. “On substance and policy and performance tonight, I mean, the president’s performance tonight clearly was disappointing for his supporters. CNN is reporting Democratic lawmakers watching the debate were worried about the president’s performance. One said it was a ‘disaster,’ another called it a ‘train wreck,’ Cooper shot back.

Listen, people can debate on style points, but ultimately, this election and who is the President of the United States has to be about substance. And the contrast is clear,” Harris replied, again throwing cold water on the notion of President Biden stepping down. The vice president went on to once again talk up her running mate’s performance and falsely accused Trump of supporting a nationwide abortion ban,

Unsatisfied, Cooper once again reiterated that Democrats have expressed concern. The two then became embroiled in a verbal spat in which Harris continued to praise Biden’s performance while Cooper probed for answers on Biden’s ability to lead.

“This was a debate that your campaign wanted,” the CNN host said after Harris rattled off a number of what she deemed to be Biden’s accomplishments. You pushed for this debate at this moment. Obviously, I mean, you can’t honestly say, I mean, can you say that you are not concerned at all having watched the President’s performance tonight?” Cooper probed.

“It was a slow start. That’s obvious to everyone. That’s obvious to everyone. I’m not going to debate that point,” Harris replied.

‘THIS THING IS OVER’: Cenk Uygur Guarantees Biden Will Lose Election After Horrible Biden Debate

The New Atlantis

Cenk Uygur, the longtime host of the far-left program “The Young Turks,” declared that President Biden was finished after a disastrous debate performance on Thursday night.

“Guys, this thing’s over. Joe Biden is a disaster. And nobody’s even listening to anything he’s saying,” Uygur began. So if you care a lot about politics, you’re trying to focus on what he’s saying as we are, obviously. And Trump keeps saying one crazy lunatic thing after another, right? But Biden has no ability to counter here.”

The progressive host went on to point to Biden’s numerous freeze-ups throughout the debate, stating that the split-screen of Biden and Trump was “killing” the president. “And the whole time the split screen is killing Biden. Because he’s got his mouth open, he looks confused, doesn’t know where he is. He’s lost his train of thought at least twice in disastrous shape. Those are going to be played a billion times in viral video after viral video. This is an epic disaster,” Uygur continued.

“I see people online saying, ‘well, okay, that answer wasn’t so bad.’ No, it doesn’t. Any particular answer doesn’t matter at all. This thing is over. He looks like he’s barely surviving. I don’t mean the debate, I mean life,” he said.

“And so there’s no person that has a single brain cell left in their head who thinks that Joe Biden is the best candidate to take on Donald Trump. You would have to be even crazier than Donald Trump to think that. This thing is over, over. I’ll guarantee you this. I would bet any, show me a Democratic politician and I will bet them any amount of money that Joe Biden’s going to lose this election if he’s the candidate. It’s a guaranteed loss.”

The “Young Turks” host was far from the only far-left media figure to sound the alarm over Biden’s performance.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid told her fellow panelists that her phone was blowing up from Democrats expressing “panic” over the debate. “I too was on the phone throughout much of the debate with Obama world people with Democrats, with people who are political operatives, with campaign operatives, my phone really never stopped buzzing throughout. And the universal reaction was somewhere approaching panic,” she said.

The people who were texting with me were very concerned about President Biden seeming extremely feeble, seeming extremely weak.”

Reid stressed that the panic was not coming from everyday Democrat voters, but from veteran campaign strategists and “Obama world” White House officials.

A shocking video of the aftermath of Thursday night’s presidential debate shows First Lady Jill Biden assisting her husband off the stage after a historically poor performance.

After both Trump and Biden had delivered their closing statements, the broadcast devolved into an awkward 10-20 seconds where the two candidates could be seen standing at their respective podiums without direction. The feed then cut away without showing either man exit the stage.

Moments later, video emerged of First Lady Biden physically guiding the president off his podium. Trump walked off the stage without issue, but the commander-in-chief appeared to be struggling to move as his wife attempted to direct him.

(VOTE NOW: Did TRUMP or BIDEN Win The First Debate?)

The most high-profile stage mishap of President Biden’s tenure comes just under two weeks after former President Barack Obama was forced to lead him off stage at an LA fundraiser. Biden appeared lost as he stared into and waved at members of the crowd before his former boss could be seen placing his hand on the president’s shoulder and escorting him towards the exit.

Just days before, Biden once again wandered off stared into space following a parachuting exhibit at the G7 summit in Italy. Italian Prime Minister Meloni was forced — like Dr. Jill and President Obama — to grab the president’s hand and escort him back to the group of assembled world leaders.

The brutal exit capped off a disastrous night for Democrats that has sent the party into a full-blown panic. Former White House advisor Van Jones stated that Biden’s performance was “terrible” and called on the president to step aside.

Jones’ co-panelist, Peter King, reported that a number of high-profile Democrat strategists, political officeholders and fundraisers are seriously considering the possibility of replacing Biden ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this August.

It remains unclear how such an action would proceed, as leading candidates for such a maneuver such as California Governor Gavin Newsom and Vice President Kamala Harris have thrown cold water on the idea.

MLB Hall Of Fame Member Orlando Cepeda Passes Away At 86

The New Atlantis

Orlando Cepeda — an 11-time MLB All-Star and member of the Major League Baseball Hall of fame — passed away on Friday at the age of 86.

The San Francisco Giants and Cepeda’s family announced his death on Friday night “Our beloved Orlando passed away peacefully at home this evening, listening to his favorite music and surrounded by his loved ones,” his wife, Nydia, said in a statement released through the team. “We take comfort that he is at peace.”

The Giants held a moment of silence in his honor and displayed his picture on the scoreboard at Oracle Park ahead of the team’s game with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Cepeda, a native of Puerto Rico, spent parts of 17 seasons in the big leagues with the New York/San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, Oakland A’s, Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals. The Hall of Fame slugger finished his career with 2,351 hits, 379 home runs, 417 doubles, 142 stolen bases, 1,365 RBI and 50.1 WAR.

His impressive stat line led to 11 All-Star nods, a Rookie of the Year award, and an MVP. He was selected to the Hall of Fame through the Veteran’s Committee in 1999.

The New Atlantis

Cepeda spent nine of his 17 seasons with the Giants after signing with the team in late 1953.

He played alongside many Giants greats of the era, including the late Willie Mays, who passed away earlier this month. “Right from the beginning, I fell in love with the city. There was everything that I liked. We played more day games then, so I usually had at least two nights a week free On Thursdays, I would always go to the Copacabana to hear the Latin music. On Sundays, after games, I’d go to the Jazz Workshop for the jam sessions,” Cepeda said of his time in San Francisco.

In May of 1965, Cepeda was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for left-hander Ray Sadecki. He would go on to notch perhaps the best season of his career with the club in 1967, when he produced a league-leading 111 RBI’s en route to an MVP award.

“MLB mourns the passing of Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda at the age of 86,” the league said in a statement.
