WATCH: Steve Scalise Says Trump Was Among The First To Console His Family After Assassination Attempt

The New Atlantis

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) revealed that former President Donald Trump was one of the first people to console his family in the hospital after the GOP House leader was nearly killed in an assassination attempt in 2017.

After going through a list of Republican agenda items, Scalise took time to address last Saturday’s assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump that killed one bystander and wounded several others, including the president.

In 2017, Scalise was nearly killed by a far-left extremist during a practice for the congressional baseball game. Scalise was critically injured when 66-year-old James Hodgkinson opened fire with a semiautomatic rifle, hitting the then-Republican whip and a few congressional aides. It is likely that Scalise and several other high-profile Republicans could have been killed if a group of D.C. Metropolitan Police officers had not been there and heroically returned fire.

I need to say something about Saturday’s attempt on President Trump’s life. Many of you know I was the survivor of a politically motivated shooting in 2017. Not many know that while I was fighting for my life, Donald Trump was one of the first to come console my family at the hospital,” Scalise revealed in his address. “That’s the kind of leader he is.”

“Courageous under fire. Compassionate towards others,” he continued. “Lets put Donald Trump back in the White House this November so we can make America great again!”

Scalise was followed by another Louisiana Republican in House Speaker Mike Johnson, who vowed to conduct a thorough and independent House investigation of the assassination attempt.

The House is conducting an immediate and thorough investigation of these tragic events. And that work has already begun. The American people deserve to know the truth and we will ensure accountability,” he said. “I promise you that.”

Kari Lake Brings Down The House At RNC, Confronts Mainstream Media

Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake pointed to members of the media and told them they were not welcome at the Republican National Convention during her address on Tuesday evening.

“Welcome, everybody who’s watching at home and welcome everybody in this great arena tonight. We love you all. Actually, actually, wait a minute… I don’t mean that. I don’t welcome everybody in this meeting, in this room,” Lake said while pointing to the press gallery. “The guys up in the fake news have worn out your welcome. You’ve worn it out guys.

The press was immediately greeted with boos and taunts, causing Lake to briefly pause.

(YOURS FREE: Trump 2024 “Still Standing” Flag With Iconic New Imagery)

You have spent the last eight years lying about President Donald Trump and his amazing patriotic supporters. Actually, guys, they lie about everything. They’ve lied about Joe Biden’s health, the economy, the laptop, the border. I could go on and on and on. But the really good news is that every day more and more people are turning off the fake news,” she continued.

Lake’s criticism of the mainstream media appeared to anger veteran pollster Frank Luntz, who took to X to complain. “I’m on the media platform as she is attacking the media. Convention goers are yelling at the people around me – it’s a really strange experience,” he wrote.

Elsewhere in her speech, Lake drew some of the loudest cheers of the early part of the Republican National Convention’s second night.

“The problems we face are huge. The problems caused by the Democrat party, but the solutions guys, they’re really simple. First of all, stop the Biden invasion and build the wall. Easy,” she said. Lake again briefly paused her speech while the crowd erupted into chants of “build that wall!”

“And while we’re building the wall, let’s kick Bidenomics to the curb and bring back the MAGAnomics. Is that okay?” the senate hopeful continued. “I miss the strong Trump economy. And because I’m a mama bear, I want to replace this indoctrination, this psychological abuse they’re inflicting on our children with a real solid quality education. It’s all common sense. The great news is that we can solve these problems and to be honest we must solve these problems for the sake of our children because that’s really what this is all about, right?”

Lake was one of several Republican Senate candidates to speak on Tuesday evening. The crowd also heard from Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania, Sam Brown of Nevada, and Bernie Moreno of Ohio, among others.

Republicans will be hoping to take advantage of a favorable Senate map in November, when Democrats will be defending more than 10 seats.

BREAKING: Iran Breaks Silence After Being Accused Of Trump Assassination Plot thumbnail

BREAKING: Iran Breaks Silence After Being Accused Of Trump Assassination Plot

The New Atlantis

Iran has denied an connection to an alleged plot to kill former President Donald Trump after such a scheme was reportedly identified by U.S. intelligence agencies.

According to a report from CNN citing multiple unnamed sources, U.S. intelligence first became aware of an Iranian-linked plot to kill Trump several weeks ago. Trump was shot in the ear by 20-year-old Matthew Crooks at a rally in Pennsylvania this past weekend, though investigators have not identified any links between Crooks and an alleged Iranian plot.

In a statement to Newsweek, the Iranian Mission to the United Nations stated that “these accusations are unsubstantiated and malicious.”

(YOURS FREE: Trump 2024 “Still Standing” Flag With Iconic New Imagery)

“From the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Trump is a criminal who must be prosecuted and punished in a court of law for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani,” the Iranian Mission said. “Iran has chosen the legal path to bring him to justice.”

Secret Service Communications Chief Anthony Guglielmi told the outlet that  “the Secret Service and other agencies are constantly receiving new potential threat information and taking action to adjust resources as needed,” when asked for comment.

“We cannot comment on any specific threat stream other than to say that the Secret Service takes threats seriously and responds accordingly,” he added.

Iranian officials have repeatedly threatened to seek revenge on former President Trump, as well as key administration officials such as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, over the killing of former Quds force Commander Qassem Soleimani, a key figure in Iran’s military affairs. Soleimani played a key role in organizing Shiite militias that killed U.S. troops during the Iraq War and continued to work with such militias until his death.

Trump gave the order to kill Soleimani — who was traveling with key militia leaders when he was killed — after Iran-backed militias launched missiles and mortars at U.S. bases in Iraq.

Iranian media has occasionally portrayed images of the former U.S. leader in crosshairs. The Secret Service told Newsweek that it has consistently taken these threats seriously.

Investigators have stated that they have struggled to identify a motive behind Thomas Matthew Crooks’ assassination attempt. The 20-year-old is believed to have rigged his car with explosives that could be detonated remotely before parking it outside the rally.

He had very little social media presence, though Discord has acknowledged that he did have an account with the platform. “We have identified an account that appears to be linked to the suspect; it was rarely utilized and we have found no evidence that it was used to plan this incident or discuss his political views,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement to Kotaku.

Helen Comperatore, the widow of slain Trump rallygoer Corey Comperatore, spoke with former President Donald Trump on Tuesday, she confirmed in a social media post.

“President Trump called me to share his condolences. He was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the days and weeks ahead,” Helen Comperatore wrote in a Facebook post. “I told him the same thing I told everyone else. He left this world a hero and god welcomed him in. He did not die in vain that day.”

Corey Comperatore, a retired firefighter from Buffalo Township, Pennsylvania and father of two, was murdered this past Saturday when a gunman opened fire on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Comperatore was shot in the head after immediately throwing himself in front of his family and shielding them from gunfire. Members of the crowd — including an emergency room physician — attempted to save his life, though he was unable to survive his injuries.

Comperatore has been described as a hero by political leaders in both parties, including President Biden, former President Donald Trump, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who ordered all commonwealth and American flags in the state to be flown at half-staff in his honor.

A small memorial to the murdered bystander has been set up outside his former fire house, where Comperatore served as chief in the early 2000’s and remained a member throughout his life. Firefighters have displayed his gear out front and draped it with a black ribbon.

Condolences and donations have poured in for the Comperatore family in the aftermath of his murder. One GoFundMe account started by family friend Jason Bubb began with a goal of $7,000. As of Tuesday afternoon, it had raised more than $1.1 million from more than 20,000 separate donations. Another GoFundMe set up for all of the victims of the shooting has raised just shy of $5 million from over 63,000 donations.

The community is planning a vigil for Comperatore on Wednesday night, while funeral arraignments have been set for Friday.

New Details Emerge On Trump Shooter’s Social Media Presence, Internet History

The New Atlantis

While FBI investigators have stated that they are still working through would-be Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks’ phone and internet history in order to determine a motive, details are beginning to emerge about the deceased gunman’s online footprint.

Investigators have uncovered very little evidence of a social media presence for Crooks, who was 20-years-old when he was killed by Secret Service counter snipers. The messaging and social media company Discord has confirmed that Crooks did have an account with their platform, though it has already been deleted.

Discord is an instant messaging platform that allows communication through voice calls, video calls, text messaging and media. Communication can take place through direct messages, or in groups known as “servers.”

(YOURS FREE: Trump 2024 “Still Standing” Flag With Iconic New Imagery)

Primarily used for gaming communities to chat while playing online, Discord differs from popular social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter. Unlike those platforms, Discord is a server-based messaging system where users congregate in communities that aren’t easily searched or shared outside of an individual servers’ active members, especially if people are using a private server to communicate, gaming website Kotaku explained.

“We have identified an account that appears to be linked to the suspect; it was rarely utilized and we have found no evidence that it was used to plan this incident or discuss his political views,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement to Kotaku. Crooks’ account was deleted not long after he was identified as the gunman who nearly killed former President Trump and did succeed in killing one innocent bystander.

Discord was criticized in the 2022 grocery store shooting in Buffalo, when a gunman murdered 10 people. The attack was planned for months in a Discord server, prompting criticism of the platform from New York law enforcement officials for what they deemed to be insufficient monitoring of threats.

The New Atlantis

Additional details have emerged surrounding the timeline of events leading up to the assassination attempt.

On Friday, Crooks went to a local shooting range where he held a membership and practiced firing, one law enforcement official told CNN. The next morning, he went to a local Home Depot, where he purchased a five-foot ladder that was used to access the roof from which he opened fire. He also went to a gun store on Saturday, where he purchased 50 rounds of ammunition, investigators said.

After gathering materials that would be used in the shooting, Crooks drove his Hyundai Sonata about an hour north of his home in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania to the township of Butler, where Trump was set to hold a rally.

Investigators have stated that Crooks’ car was rigged with an improvised explosive device hidden in his trunk, which was wired to a transmitter he was carrying, investigators said. From there, investigators believed he carried his newly purchased ladder to a building located roughly 130 yards from the former president’s podium.

He then used the ladder to scale the roof despite the fact that the location was noted as a high-level security threat. Law enforcement personnel were also stationed inside the building and took notice of him as he surveyed the area. When he returned with a backpack and started looking at his phone, a Secret Service counter sniper took a photo.

The New Atlantis

Officials believe that Crooks may have planned to blow up his car in order to create a distraction that would give him an opportunity to carry out his attack.

It is unclear how Crooks was able to construct the explosive devices that were found in his car. Investigators have not found any evidence that he researched how to build explosive devices or how to wire them to a transmitter. Instead, they have found very little pointing to planning or a motive.

The “AR-style rifle” used in the attack was purchased by the gunman’s father, Matthew Crooks. It was one of more than 20 weapons registered to the elder Crooks’ when a search was conducted of the family’s home on Saturday.

‘One Tough SOB’: Teamsters President Praises Trump At Republican National Convention

The New Atlantis

Teamsters Union President Sean O’Brien praised former President Donald Trump in a historic address at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Monday.

While Trump is not scheduled to address the convention until Thursday, the former president made a surprise entrance on Monday, just a little over 48 hours after he was just about killed by a would-be assassin at a Pennsylvania rally. Sporting a white bandage on his wounded ear, a visibly emotional Trump walked out to a live rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless The USA.”

O’Brien — who is set to address both major parties at their respective conventions this year — took the stage roughly 10 minutes later. The union boss praised former President Trump for his bravery displayed after the assassination attempt and referred to him as a “tough SOB.”

“I think we all can agree; whether people like him, or they don’t like him, in light of what happened to him on Saturday… he has proven to be one tough S.O.B,” O’Brien said while pointing to the former president. The statement drew one of the loudest reactions of the convention’s opening night.

Elsewhere in his speech, O’Brien thanked the Republican Party for inviting him to speak and singled out several Republican lawmakers who have been standing with union workers.

First, I want to thank the hard-working Teamsters and union members here in Milwaukee who play vital roles in the building and operations of this convention. I also want to thank President Donald Trump for opening the RNC’s doors to the Teamsters Union and invited me to speak before you tonight,” he said.

“I travel all across this country and meet with my members every week. You know what I see? An American worker being taken for granted. Workers being sold out to big banks, big tech, corporates in the elite. And I’m not the only one who sees this. Everyday families see it,” the union leader continued. “The American people aren’t stupid. They know the system is broken. We all know how Washington is run. Working people have no chance of winning this fight. That’s why I’m here today. Because I refuse to keep doing the same things my predecessors did.”

O’Brien singled out Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), Republican vice-presidential nominee J.D. Vance, and others for their help with union issues.

“In my administration, the Teamsters reached out to eight Republican senators who stood up for railroad Teamsters over our fight for paid sick leave. Josh Hawley was one of them,” O’Brien said, drawing applause.

“We started talking. Senator Hawley changed his position on national right to work. Then we started walking. Senator Hawley walked a Teamsters picket line in St. Louis and a UAW picket line in Wentzville, Missouri. More than that, I want to recognize Senator Hawley for his direct, relentless, and pointed want to recognize Senator Hawley for his direct, relentless, and pointed questioning of corporate talking heads, lawyers, CEOs, and apologists.”

With his speech, O’Brien became the first Teamsters boss to address the Republican National Convention in the organization’s 121-year history.

O’Brien was not the only leader to speak on night one of the Republican National Convention. Earlier in the night, New York union leader Bobby Bartels announced that he will be endorsing former President Donald Trump in November.

The union leader told a story about how Trump stepped in to assist with renovating an iconic ice rink in Central Park after Democrat leaders failed to help.

“He wasn’t mayor, he wasn’t running for anything, but he was a guy who cared about people and he knew how to get a job done. He put his money and his reputation on the line and committed to getting it built. He did it using skilled local union labor like the men of Local 638,” the longtime union member continued. “Together, we worked tirelessly on that project, completing it on time and ensuring kids would be skating that fall on that rink.”

That’s why this Union Democrat will be voting Trump this November. So that we can take back the middle class, take back the country, and rebuild the middle class that my union has helped build over so many years.”

“Prayer works. This nation based on faith, prayer works. We have believed for so long that God will make some changes in this country, and he’s about to make a change in the current administration and send them home,” Greenwood said while introducing the former president.

Thank you everybody for being here tonight. Tonight we make the decision on what’s right for America. more prosperity, less gas prices, less food prices, help for our veterans, and God bless our military wherever they are in this United States. And abroad, there would be no war if there wasn’t anyone. President Trump was president, and he would have been president of the United States, Donald J. Trump.”

Cheers continued well into the next speaker’s address, who took a step back as the crowd continued to chant “we love Trump!”

The former president is set to deliver his main address on Thursday. He reportedly scrapped his initial address in favor of a new one in the wake of the assassination attempt.

New York union leader Bobby Bartels brought down the house at the Republican National Convention when he announced that he will be endorsing former President Donald Trump in November. He went on to predict that many of his fellow union laborers will be doing the same in November, regardless of endorsements from union bosses.

Bartels began by introducing himself as a proud member of Steamfitter’s local union 638. “And like many of my fellow union members, I’ve been a Democrat my whole life. And like so many of my fellow union members, we have come to expect empty promises from Democratic politicians’ mismanagement,” he said.

He went on to list a situation concerning Central Park’s iconic Wallman Ice Rink, which had fallen into disrepair. “Politicians made promise after promise to fix the rink, and yet they did nothing,” Bartels told the crowd. “That’s when Donald Trump stepped up.”

Bartels then took aim at President Biden by noting that some jobs require work “outside the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.,” drawing laughs from the crowd. President Biden’s aides have revealed that their boss tends to lose energy and decline throughout the day.

“We have an open border inviting illegal immigrants to take our American jobs and lower our wages. Out of control inflation is squeezing budgets and both violent crime are pushing people out of our cities or will Democrats do nothing,” Bartels went on to say.

A number of conservative figures and prominent X users had reported that he planned on attending, though White clarified that this was never the case.

No, he was never going to UFC Denver. I wasn’t even in — I was on a plane to Italy so he wouldn’t go to the UFC unless I was there number one,” White said. “Number two, I’ve been saying this forever about this guy. Tucker Carlson Praises Trump’s Selection Of J.D. Vance: ‘Every Bad Person In Washington Is Aligned Against Him’

The New Atlantis

Leading conservative commentator Tucker Carlson praised former President Donald Trump’s selection of Senator JD Vance (R-OH) as his running mate.

“I think every person who pays close attention has gotta be thrilled by that. And if you don’t know much about J.D. Vance, I’m not even gonna make a case for J.D. Vance,” the former Fox News host said while speaking at the Heritage Foundation’s Policy Fest as part of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“I’m gonna tell you what I just saw, which is that every bad person I’ve ever met in a lifetime in Washington was aligned against J.D. Vance.”

He went on to make the case that Vance was the best candidate on Trump’s long-rumored shortlist, which included names like Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY). Carlson himself was once rumored to be in the mix, though it is unclear if such a move was ever seriously considered.

“…I don’t always think that my side is right. I know for a fact I have been wrong many, many times, and I hope to correct and be honest about my error,” Carlson said while addressing the Heritage Foundation event. “So, it’s not like I think that…God’s always on my side. Sometimes I’m not on God’s side, but I definitely know who’s representing the other side.”

Carlson, who recently launched the Tucker Carlson Network, pointed to hostile reactions to Vance from those with a financial interest in “killing other people in pointless wars.”

“I know who those people are, and their odor is so powerful that I can smell one when he walks in the room. And every single one of those people in a line that would extend from Milwaukee to Chicago was lined up over the last week to knife J.D. Vance,” he said.

“And boy, they went after him in a way I’ve just kind of never seen, which I think happens every day in Washington. I just don’t have a vantage on it because I’m far, far away and grateful to be.”

Vance reportedly received no less than 20 minutes notice before Trump formally selected him as his running mate in a Truth Social post. A freshman senator, Vance has evolved from a former critic to one of the former president’s strongest supporters in the Senate.

The campaign is hopeful that his inclusion on the ticket will help turn out the vote in pivotal Rust Belt states.
