The president added that he has plans to address the nation later this week.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump’s would-be assassin was able to capture aerial footage via drone of the western Pennsylvania fairgrounds shortly before the former president was set to speak there. This revelation points to another stunning failure by law enforcement.

“Thomas Matthew Crooks flew the drone on a programmed flight path earlier in the day on July 13 to scour the Butler Farm Show grounds ahead of Trump’s ill-fated rally, the officials said. The predetermined path, the officials added, suggests Crooks flew the drone more than once as he researched and scoped out the event site,” WSJ’s Sadie Gurman and Aruna Viswanatha write.

“The use of the drone was just one way in which authorities have said Crooks planned his attack. Crooks, described by friends as very smart yet withdrawn, began researching the site shortly after the Trump campaign announced the rally on July 3, and registered for the event on July 7, officials said. He visited the farm show grounds a few days later to scope it out,”

After receiving a subpoena from the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-KY), U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has agreed to testify before the committee on Monday concerning the recent attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

“Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle will testify before the House Committee on Oversight on Monday,” said Secret Service Chief of Communications, Anthony Guglielmi, on Friday. “The Secret Service is fully accountable for the safety of its protectees. We are committed to better understanding what happened before, during, and after the assassination attempt of former President Trump to ensure it never happens again. That includes complete cooperation with Congress, the FBI, and other relevant investigations.”

The decision follows public demand for transparency regarding the circumstances that allowed for a security lapse during the July 13 shooting.

“Americans demand accountability and transparency about the Secret Service’s failures that led to the attempted assassination of President Trump, but they aren’t getting that from President Biden’s Department of Homeland Security,” Comer said in a statement two days ago when announcing the subpoena.

The testimony of Director Cheatle is expected to address key questions about the Secret Service’s operations and the specific failures that potentially facilitated the attempt on Trump’s life. Lawmakers are likely to probe into the details of the security protocols in place at the time of the incident, as well as the subsequent measures the agency has taken to ensure such a breach does not occur again.

On Friday, Democrat congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee passed away at the age of 74 after losing her battle with pancreatic cancer. Jackson Lee, who served Texas’ 18th Congressional District for almost thirty years, disclosed her diagnosis in June.

“Today, with incredible grief for our loss yet deep gratitude for the life she shared with us, we announce the passing of United States Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of the 18th Congressional District of Texas,” a statement on her Twitter account reads.

During his RNC speech on Thursday night, President Trump gave a touching tribute to Corey Comperatore, the former fire chief who tragically lost his life at the Butler, Pennsylvania rally. Trump walked over to a firefighters wardrobe that was stood up in honor of Comperatore, and put his arms on it’s shoulders. He then asked the crowd to join him in a moment of silence.

Former Fire Chief Corey Comperatore was with his family at Trump’s rally in nearby Butler on Saturday when deranged sniper Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire, grazing the former president, wounding two others — and killing Comperatore.

Moments ago, the judge in Alec Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter trial dismissed the case, agreeing with the motion by defense attorneys, which argued that prosecutors concealed evidence regarding ammunition linked to the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western movie “Rust” in 2021.

In the motion to dismiss, Baldwin’s attorneys said that prosecutors and Santa Fe sheriffs had concealed evidence from Baldwin that emerged in March, after the conclusion of the trial of the indie Western’s armorer. The filing says that on March 6, retired Arizona police officer Troy Teske turned over a collection of live ammunition to the Santa Fe sheriff’s office, where the bullets were accepted by crime scene technician Marissa Poppell, but not inventoried with the Rust case.

Teske told Poppell that among the rounds he was handing over that day were Starline brass casings with nickel primers, matching the live bullet that killed Hutchins, according to Baldwin’s filing. The sheriff department’s knowledge and possession of the rounds was not disclosed to the defense, nor were they presented at the defense’s evidence viewing April 16.

First Judicial District Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer stated, “The sanction of dismissal is the only warranted remedy” in the case. Baldwin, 66, immediately began sobbing as Sommer delivered her decision.

If convicted, Baldwin could have faced up to 18 months in prison. The shooting occurred while the actor was rehearsing a scene at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe County on October 21, 2021. The prop revolver he was holding discharged, killing Hutchins, 42, and wounding director Joel Souza.

Baldwin, who pleaded not guilty, claimed he was unaware that the revolver contained a live round and that it discharged accidentally following instructions to point it towards Hutchins.

The defense argued that the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office had taken live rounds of ammunition as evidence but failed to record them in the official case file or disclose their existence to Baldwin’s defense team.

Martin Mull, best known for his roles in “Arrested Development” and “Roseanne” has died at the age of 80.

Mull’s daughter announced that he died at home on Thursday after “a valiant fight against a long illness.”

“He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials,” his daughter, Maggie Mull said in an Instagram post. “He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs.”

“Simpsons” actor Harry Shearer wrote on his social media: “Took me a moment to grasp that Martin Mull has passed. During the late 70s, we worked together on Fernwood Tonight & its successor series. We wrote together, often at the beach (!), and sometimes I’d come out and riff with him. Mucho laffs! Always a treat to be with. RIP MM.”

Before his success in movies and TV, Mull performed his music and comedy in Hollywood clubs in the 1970s.
