Rev. Corine Mack, president of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), is under fire for delivering a furious tirade in which she slandered President Donald Trump as a supporter of Adolf Hitler.
In a November 10 speech at a Charlotte area community center, she stated that President Donald Trump views Adolf Hitler as “the greatest man ever on Earth” and is attempting to establish a government resembling 1940s Nazi Germany in the United States. The remarks, made before an audience of approximately 150 local residents, were captured on video and subsequently shared on social media platforms.
“Donald Trump really believes that Hitler was the greatest man ever on Earth. He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a fake Christian trying to create a 1940s Germany right here in the United States,” she ranted. “He wants that kind of control. He wants that kind of power. And if we don’t stand up, if we don’t vote, if we don’t organize, that’s exactly what we’re going to get.”
She then urged the audience to vote Democrat in the upcoming midterm elections in order to resist what she referred to as “fascist” policies. “History teaches us to recognize patterns of hate and division. We must speak out—loudly, clearly, and without apology.”
The slanderous quotes stem from an anonymously sourced article from The Atlantic, which claimed Trump kept a copy of Hitler’s speeches and expressed private admiration for the dictator’s leadership style. John Kelly, Trump’s former chief of staff and the reported source, walked back his claims earlier this year.
Mack speaks at the EQUALibrium Awards Gala on June 5, 2025
Mack has a history of using inflammatory rhetoric when advancing policy goals for the NAACP. “This was state-sanctioned murder. What we are witnessing is systemic genocide against Black people in this city,” she said after the officer-involved shooting of Keith Lamont Scott.
Charlotte Police stated that Scott was armed, ignored at least 10 verbal commands to drop the weapon, and posed an “imminent deadly threat.” A holster and the handgun were recovered at the scene, with Scott’s DNA and fingerprints on the weapon.
Charges were not filed in the case, though it did spark two nights of intense, at times violent protests that sparked a citywide curfew. “They care more about protecting windows than they do about protecting Black lives,” Mack said during a press conference outside CMPD headquarters at the time.
She made similar inflammatory comments during the nationwide George Floyd riots in 2020. “This is a segregationist plot dressed up as choice. They want to siphon money from schools that serve our children and give it to institutions that will never reflect our community,” the NAACP leader ranted during a Mecklenburg County Commission public comment section at the time.
