Saturday Night Live’s season premiere included a cold open skit centered on Attorney General Pam Bondi’s hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee that at times was combative.
Actress and comedian Amy Poehler hosted the comedy sketch show Saturday for the third time since she left the role as a cast member. Poehler impersonated Bondi in the opening skit.
“My name is Pam Bondi. I spell it with an ‘I’ because I ain’t going to answer any of your questions. My time is valuable. The DOJ has many ongoing operations, and we’re moving like Kash Patel’s eyeballs: very quickly in multiple directions at once,” Poehler said.

Cast member Mikey Day parodied Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) in posing the first question to Poehler, asking, “Did President Trump direct you to prosecute his political opponents?”
“Before I don’t answer, I’d like to insult you personally,” Poehler said. “Sen. Blumenthal, look at this honky. Even people in Connecticut go, ‘Damn, that guy is white as hell.’ That is just one of the many roast-style burns I have here on this paper. Don’t make me use them.”
At the hearing last week, Blumenthal and Bondi traded barbs throughout the senator’s questioning. At one point, Blumenthal implied that Bondi was involved in the American Express Global Business Travel merger while working for her former law firm. Bondi condemned the implication and claimed Blumenthal was accusing her “of impropriety when [Blumenthal] lied about [his] military service.”
“How dare you? I’m a career prosecutor. Don’t you ever challenge my integrity,” Bondi told Blumenthal. “Do not question my ability to be fair and impartial as attorney general and anything [about] my former firm Ballard Partners.”
During the skit, Poehler was asked about the federal law enforcement presence at Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, prompting the appearance of actor Tina Fey doing an impression of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Fey burst onto the scene with a rifle in hand.
“Hold my gun. That’s right. It’s me, Kristi Noem. I spell my name with an ‘I’ because that’s how I thought it was spelled,” Fey said. “And I’m the rarest type of person in Washington, D.C., a brunette that Donald Trump listens to.”
Fey and Poehler were SNL cast members together, with Fey joining the cast in 1996 and Poehler joining later in 2001.

Saturday’s episode fell on the 50th anniversary of SNL. The program has long parodied every current presidential administration. Further parodies of Trump’s administration are likely to continue.
