President Donald Trump on Wednesday night announced that a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict that will secure the release of all living hostages abducted during the October 7 attacks had been reached.
“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace,” the president announced in a Truth Social post,” adding that “all Parties will be treated fairly.”
“This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen,” the president continued, concluding the post with, “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”
The Hezbollah-linked media outlet al-Mayadeen reported Wednesday that Hamas had agreed to a Gaza ceasefire deal, adding that it will be signed Thursday in Egypt.
Two sources familiar with the talks told the Times of Israel that the biggest issues in the Gaza talks have been resolved and what remains to be finalized is merely procedural. The sources further added that a deal is imminent.
Under the terms of the deal, Hamas will release all remaining living hostages who were abducted during the October 7 attacks on Saturday. The agreement is expected to be formally signed in Egypt on Thursday.
The announcement comes a little over an hour after Secretary of State Marco Rubio handed President Trump a note and told him that a deal was imminent.
“I was just given a note by the secretary saying that we’re very close to a deal in the Middle East, and they’re going to need me pretty quickly,” Trump told reporters after Rubio whispered in the president’s ear. “I have to go now to try and solve some problems in the Middle East,” Trump added, bringing the meeting to an abrupt end.
