Former President Joe Biden is undergoing a five-week radiation treatment as his treatment for prostate cancer enters a new phase, his office announced in a statement Saturday.
“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” a spokesperson for the former president said Saturday. Prior to the new treatment plan, Biden, 82, was already taking a hormone medication and had been receiving routine scans, his office added.
The former commander-in-chief is “doing well,” his team told the New York Post.
Back in May, Biden was diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of metastatic prostate cancer after medical examiners discovered a prostate nodule following reported symptoms. His office announced at the time that while aggressive, the cancer is is hormone-sensitive, meaning it may respond well to treatment and could hopefully be effectively managed.
The former president, who is set to turn 83 next month, also underwent a surgery last month to remove cancerous skin cells through a procedure known as Mohs surgery, according to his office.
During his time in the White House, Biden had a skin lesion removed from his chest, the White House announced at the time. Former White House physician Kevin O’Connor noted in February 2023 that a biopsy of skin tissue taken during a routine physical revealed the presence of cancerous cells, all of which were successfully removed.
Biden was recently spotted in South Philadelphia, when he was on-hand to cheer on the Philadelphia Phillies in their NLDS clash against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The former president was seen shaking hands with fans and cheering on his favorite team from a suite when they rallied late.

The latest update on the former president’s cancer diagnosis came just a day after President Donald Trump, 79, traveled to Walter Reed Medical Center for a routine health assessment. Trump received both a COVID-19 and flu shot ahead of his upcoming trip to the Middle East.
Trump, 79 remains in “exceptional health,” his physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, said. The appointment was a “scheduled follow-up evaluation” and said it was a “part of his ongoing health maintenance plan,” Barbabella added.
