Liberal Twitch streamer Hasan Piker—known online as “HasanAbi”—is facing widespread backlash after a disturbing clip from one of his livestreams allegeded to show him shocking his dog with a training collar after it got up to stretch.
The footage, taken during an October 7 stream, captures Piker screaming “I f*cking hate this county so much” while ranting about poor internet service. Moments later, his dog Kaya lets out a sharp yelp after he angrily tells her to stop wandering.
As the dog begins to move, Hasan Piker snaps, “Kaya please just f****** go, just stop,” prompting an audible yelp from the animal. Without missing a beat, he follows up with, “You’re being such a baby.”
The short clip, which quickly spread across X and Reddit, left many viewers stunned. Piker, who lives in a $3 million Hollywood mansion, was immediately accused of using a shock collar on his dog during the outburst.

Piker later addressed the backlash during a Twitch stream, pushing back on the criticism by saying, “They’re claiming that the most well-trained, and the most spoiled, best kept dog on the planet is actually being abused by me, apparently, because I gave her the place command while she was getting off, and then she yelped … I suspect it’s coming from some crazy haters.”
Twitch has not taken disciplinary action as of October 8, and no investigation has been announced. Still, the viral moment has deepened criticism of Piker’s public persona—one many say exposes the hypocrisy of millionaire “progressives” who lash out at others while living in luxury.
Piker was raised partly in Istanbul and is the nephew of The Young Turks co-founder Cenk Uygur. After graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in political science and communication, he began his career at The Young Turks, where he hosted The Breakdown, a web series offering progressive political commentary aimed at younger audiences.
In 2018, Piker transitioned to Twitch, where he built one of the platform’s largest political commentary channels. His streams combine live reactions to news, political debates, gaming, and cultural discussions. Over time, he left The Young Turks to pursue full-time content creation, expanding his reach through YouTube and podcasts.
Politically, Piker identifies with left-wing, progressive, and socialist viewpoints. He frequently discusses topics such as U.S. foreign policy, economic inequality, and social justice. He has been involved in multiple controversies, including backlash for remarks made about 9/11. Earlier this year, Piker said he was detained and questioned by border agents at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport about his political beliefs upon returning from an international trip. Despite polarizing audiences, he remains one of the most influential online voices among politically engaged younger viewers.
