President Donald Trump’s White House roundtable meeting on left-wing and Antifa violence in cities like Portland and elsewhere was cut short when Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed the president that a historic peace deal in the Middle East was imminent.
“I was just given a note by the secretary saying that we’re very close to a deal in the Middle East, and they’re going to need me pretty quickly,” Trump told reporters after Rubio whispered in the president’s ear. “I have to go now to try and solve some problems in the Middle East,” Trump added, bringing the meeting to an abrupt end.
The note from Rubio reads, “Very close. You need to approve a Truth Social post soon so you can announce deal first.”
Not long after the meeting, a senior Israeli official told Hebrew media outlets that a hostage release and ceasefire deal in Gaza could be reached by the end of the night Wednesday, according to a report from the Times Of Israel. The source added that President Trump was taking preparations to announce a deal within a matter of hours.
In Israel, “assessments are mounting that the details of the deal could be finalized within the coming hours,” the official is quoted as saying.

The Hezbollah-linked media outlet al-Mayadeen reported Wednesday that Hamas had agreed to a Gaza ceasefire deal, adding that it will be signed Thursday in Egypt.
Two sources familiar with the talks told the Times of Israel that the biggest issues in the Gaza talks have been resolved and what remains to be finalized is merely procedural. The sources further added that a deal is imminent.
Under the terms of the deal, Hamas will release all remaining living hostages who were abducted during the October 7 attacks on Saturday. The agreement is expected to be formally signed in Egypt on Thursday.
